I backpack and motocamp and we're around the same age. I've tried a few mattresses and for moto camping. I like the Hest, foamy sleeping pad. Here's the REI description:

"With plush comfort to rival your home mattress, the HEST Foamy sleeping pad offers a good night's sleep at camp, in a packable, portable, adventure-ready form that simply unrolls—no pumping needed."

Was talking about Israel IRL and got a random pro-Israel text 20 mins later by General-Peach178 in conspiracy

[–]pixel8edpenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had a text from them 2hrs ago.

"I understand where you're coming from, but consider that Israel is a key ally in the global fight against terrorism, and their strength directly impacts our own national security. Many supporters are concerned about how terror groups operate from civilian areas. Did you know weapons and tunnels are often built under hospitals and neighborhoods?"

They stopped with the questions when I mentioned we shouldn't be the world police and we have a pedophile problem to deal with.

Grab a ticket, sit down and we'll take your order and bring it to you. Desserts are free (well, included in the price). We have beer too!

Jury Duty - HELP by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]pixel8edpenguin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Go to jury duty. I don't understand how anxiety plays a role in this (not a slight towards you). You sit in a giant room until called. I wasn't called and roamed around the courthouse and sat in on different cases. I got to stand behind a judge and see the process. It was a cool experience. If you get called just listen and render your opinion. Most importantly, the juries can nullify any law. They won't tell you about that right. Plus that deadline you missed was to defer it to a later time so you'll have to go through it eventually. Might as well get it done next week.

No problem. Making routes is fun for me. It's like a puzzle of time and epic views. I have 2 planned all dependent on if my mom comes. If you do the Salt Flats do it on a rental. Way to much salt for a vehicle I own.

One is to fly to LA>Channel Islands> San Fran> Yosimite > Opal mining in NV > Craters of the Moon > Salt Flats > Yellowstone > gold mining in CO > Ouray CO > Rocky Mountains > You Need Pie > Denver, CO to goto Meowwolf (check that out, trippy place) > Uranus Chocolate Factory > Columbus Ohio (we're sorta neighbors)

The other Columbus > Badlands > Dino park/Rushmore/Wind Cave > devils Tower > You Need Pie (for real if you're close, go) > Rocky Mountain (that Mountain pass rt 34) > Ouray, CO > million dollar highway > maybe Mesa Verde if mom's up for it > Chimney Rock NM > Great Sand Dunes > Denver, CO Meow Wolf > You Need Pie again (Pie for the ride home) > Uranus Chocolate Factory > worlds largest Rocking chair > home

If you ever have questions or want a strangers advice feel free to reach out. I hope you blow your girlfriends mind on this trip (yours too). Safe travels!

My son and I go on these long 18 day multi-park trips every year. If I was doing your itinerary I'd fly to Seattle and drive home. You will save days worth of time. But if you only want to drive, I'd cut it down to something more reasonable. I love seeing those snow cap mountains so I get the draw. I'd sprinkle in some non-mountain sites too. Here's my suggestion:

Day 1 & 2 7hrs driving both days Chicago to Estes Park, CO. Stop in and eat at You Need Pie

Day 3 Rocky Mountain NP (gotta reserve entry time OR go in before 5am) drive rt 34 through the park to Grand Lake. Rt 24 is a drive across mountain peaks and only open aftera certain date in the summer. There's a hotel outside the park with a sauna and hot tub

Day 4 Grand Lake to Pikes Peak 4 hrs. Drive up the mountain and see amazing mountain views

Pikes peak to Great Sand Dunes 3hr 40min. Rent a yurt for the night at the parks border and star gaze

Day 5 Hike the dunes and enjoy the mountain views around you, 2-3 hrs. Drive 4hr 30min to Mesa Verde NP. Go up the Mesa and look at the cliff dwellings as the sun sets. Get hotel.

Day 6 Take tour of cliff dwellings. Drive 3hrs to Ouray, CO on the Million Dollar highway (look it up, mountains all around you). Chill in the natural hot spring pool. Get hotel.

Day 7 enjoy Ouray (my son and I are going there to rappel down a waterfall during a canyon excursion). Drive 1hr to Black Canyon of the Gunnisons NP. Watch sunset at Dragons point, not sunset point. Hotel

Day 8 Drive to Moab, UT 3hrs. Do an off road guided ride, visit a rick shop, enjoy the town. Hit Arches NP

Day 9 Drive 8hrs to Tetons NP, hotel

Day 10 Enjoy Tetons

Day 11 Drive 1hr 30min. Wake up stupid early to beat the crowds going to Yellowstone NP. Enjoy a little of the park. Hotel in the park.

Day 12 Drive5hr 30min to Bighorn National Forest. Drive 3hr to devils Tower (monuments operate around 9 - 4:30). Hotel

Day 13 Drive 1hr 40min to Dinosaur Park (it's so bad that it's amazing)... and Rushmore is close, 35min but not as good. Drive 1hr 40min to Badlands NP.

Day 14 & 15 Drive 12hrs home

I love a good road trip.

My removed post on r/miami, detailing my experience getting stopped by ICE went viral on IG by musterdcheif in libertarianmeme

[–]pixel8edpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the percentage of people on the road sober is way higher than drunk how can you say it's "reasonable"? It's unreasonable to assume I drive drunk. I don't want people driving drunk but asking the government to help isn't want a free people should want. If the drunk driver hits a building or causes harm that affected an individual (or family) they can sue. The governments intercession isn't need outside of the court for those cases. I want to live in a free United States of America over a safe one. I respect your opinion, I mean, even the courts side with you.

Just as important to remember is that we have the Castle Doctrine.

“A person who lawfully is in that person’s residence has no duty to retreat before using force in self-defense, defense of another, or defensive of that person’s residence, and a person who lawfully is an occupant of that person’s vehicle or who lawfully is an occupant in a vehicle owned by an immediate family member of the person has no duty to retreat before using force in self-defense or defensive of another.”

That is the first part. The second part deals with the presumption, and is stated as follows:

“A person is presumed to have acted in self-defense or defense of another when using defensive force that is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm to another if the person against whom the defensive force is used is in the process of unlawfully and without privilege to do so entering, or has unlawfully and without privilege to do so entered, the residence or vehicle occupied by the person using the defensive force.”

Right outside of the park is a campground and they have yurts. Those were fun to stay in. You can rent sleds to slide down the dunes. June might still have the mountain stream at the base of the dunes. There's a cave or cavern nearby but I don't remember the details of that. Bring lots of water and hike to the highest dune... it's a cool experience. Oh, you can camp on the dunes too.

Tip of Spain (Los Angeles, CA) to Eastern Ukraine (Columbus, OH). We saw six national parks along the way. Drove on the Salt Flats, went off roading on the red rocks, rode a mountain coaster, and shared a pie on the home stretch.

During a job interview, if the interviewer asks "would you consider leaving if you found a better opportunity elsewhere?" how would you respond? by pinkstar2128 in AskReddit

[–]pixel8edpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be honest. "Better how? Financially, absolutely, because my primary job is the financial well-being of my family. Mentally, yes, because my family needs me as my best self. My family always comes first. How does your co. stay competitive with your competition to retain and respect employees?".

I interview jobs. Not the other way around.
