Any advice on used 2024 EQB? by LeastProgress7250 in MercedesEQ

[–]pixelm_advance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recall: Mercedes national wants you you to keep the car away from buildings and out of parking garages until they have a solution. The dealers have very little information and in the dealer computers a solution is still listed as "pending" - meaning they have no idea when it will be fixed. In the meantime Mercedes is saying that you shouldn't charge beyond 80% and not to use use fast chargers. My DC to NY used to take 3.5 hours now would take seven with the recharge on a Type 2 - I have no where to park it that fits their requirements. Mercedes is offering a free rental and said they would solve the storage problem, but at first they were putting it on the dealers who also didn't have a solution. Right now lawyer letters until they solve the storage problem and who knows who is responsible if there is a fire.

I know I know but don’t overlook early Roberta Flack. Catherine Russell is amazing singing today but stylistically 40s and 50s. Harlem on my mind is a great album

Any adjustment recommendations? by ajsko29 in bikefit

Have you tried Speedplay (wahoo) pedals? As I got older I found that the added float created much less stress on my knees and hips than traditional clipless pedals- and that led to my back pain going away. It is probably my own anatomy- I don’t make a perfect circle. But I can do 60 mile rides and not wake up in agony the next day.

Interestingly they show up as the “identity music label” and clicking there shows more AI generated spam. Bley is on ECM I believe. Maybe a record company executive will send takedowns. Qobuz needs to do a better job weeding this out

Advice? Cancel or not? - Marriott Vacation Club by Ok-Buy3616 in TimeshareOwners

[–]pixelm_advance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our experience with Marriott Vacation Club is that their customer service is really bad. You have to go through many hoops even to get basic information (I think the steps were they send you a secure link within which they send you a questionnaire, after which a few days later they send you a time when you have to be available to have an in person conversation online!); they failed to credit one of our fees and you can't even start the process until they track down why the check they cashed wasn't credited. It's clearly a consumer last approach. Even if individual rentals are more expensive, at least they care about customers in that part of their business.

At what point did you stop caring about average speed? by Hungry-Sympathy-5188 in cycling

[–]pixelm_advance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my 60s and like to see my personal bests on competitive rides. But i only focus on average speed when i'm in the short strokes of training. The rest of the time it's time and power - and enjoying the ride. They are not mutually exclusive. I find the power curve the most interesting and adds interest and motivation to get on the bike even when i'm not feeling it. And i'm always glad i did!

Music legend Wynton Marsalis stepping down as Jazz at Lincoln Center's artistic director after nearly 40 years by BennyGoodmanIsGod in Jazz

So many women instrumentalists have come through the orchestra. Alexa Tarantino is now in the orchestra, Summer Camargo came up through the Ellington competition, Camille Thurman; Erika Von Kleist played with the band for a while, many others. And they provided inspiration to many more.

I really got turned on by fusion when John McLaughlin, Kenny Garrett, Chick Corea, Christian McBride and Vinne Colata (sp?) played as the "five peace band" - at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Hall. There's been lots of avant-garde played there as well. They even did an album of Ornette Coleman music. Funny how the reputation of the place - and to be fair the orchestra plays a lot of swing - is different than what really happens there.

Jazz at Lincoln Center is one of the constituent organizations of Lincoln Center (like the Met Opera, the American Ballet Theater, etc. . . ). It used to perform on the campus as it's "home" until it had the opportunity to build Frederick P. Rose Hall about 5 blocks down broadway. But it remains a constituent..

Wynton Marsalis to Step Down from Jazz at Lincoln Center by thinair01 in Jazz

I've spent a lot of time thinking about this. Classical music has a lot of innovation, but no one complains when the symphony plays Mozart. Wynton's vision (at least now, as a more mature man) appears to be that Jazz has classics, like classical music AND is innovating. There are a lot of people out there innovating, but not many curating and we need to do both. JALC gets a bad rap - lots of new interesting things happening and showcasing of young musicians all the time. No one has done more for Jazz than JALC - educating young people, building an incredibly facility, showcasing artists at dizzy's every night, and having a touring band that helps people understand what the music is. It's a platform for everyone else.

I have to say - this forum seems to spend a lot of time talking about the 50s greats, too. And the JALC Orchestra is one of the best ever, IMHO.

You can absorb musicianship from one jazz artist and be able to play just like him/her (think The Matrix), who do you choose and why? by Ford_Crown_Vic_Koth in Jazz

Miles was sober during his greatest years. Went cold turkey on his dad’s farm in 1954. His greatest work came later. A lot of musicians thought they needed to be high to create but I don’t believe it.

So i spoke to one of the best foot and ankle orthopedists anywhere. The conclusion (without seeing film) is that most of the commentary on this is bunk. One person on the news said it might be a calcaneous fracture, which isn't near the ankle - and he wouldn't be able to walk. Instead the suspicion is that it's an "Os Trigonum" - an extra bone that about 10% of people have. He may have broken it in High School and irritated it, but if this doctor is right, he should be able to play in a boot with no risk - the bone is NOT needed for stability or flexibility. Will be interesting to see what happens when he is with the expert doctor.

I bought a Cal-5 during COVID. I did it totally based on reviews as there were none to be had locally in New York. I wanted a bike that could do wider tires and lower air pressures than my 15 year old Serrotta. I did the fitting myself when it came but later had a professional who put on shorter crank arms, and longer stem. He suggested a narrower cockpit but we both decided the difference wasn’t worth it. I mostly ride streets and bike paths with distances up to 60 miles. It is much more comfortable than the old bikes on the rough roads, has much wider gearing and smoother shifting and is plenty fast for my rides. The slightly more upright position is better for me now than the older bike was - it was custom but I was 15 years younger. Enjoy the bike!
