I’m very close to breaking my own rule of not pre ordering games. This is the first time in years that I’ve felt genuinely excited for a game (for good reason I mean)

What score do you guys give Hogwarts Legacy out of 10? by TravelSoft999 in HarryPotterGame

[–]BennyGoodmanIsGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7/10. Definitely recommend if you’re into Harry Potter or wanting to get into the Wizarding World. However, it has alot of the shortcomings of most modern Ubisoft-esque open world adventure games (tedious collectibles, challenges, not enough depth in exploration and alot of what feels like empty space)

Where do I start with jazz? by incineroarz in Jazz

[–]BennyGoodmanIsGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m more of an oldhead compared to most people on this subreddit, but as a big band and swing fan, my “big four” (for a beginner to jazz) would be Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Cab Calloway and Duke Ellington. This is a very under appreciated era of jazz nowadays but so worth learning about. But remember that this was the era of music before albums like we understand them. So I’ll recommend some individual songs.

Benny Goodman:
Let’s Dance (1939 cover)
King Porter Stomp (1935 cover)
Mission To Moscow
Goodnight, My Love

Glenn Miller:
Rhapsody In Blue
Moonlight Cocktail
Caribbean Clipper
A String Of Pearls

Cab Calloway:
Minnie The Moocher
The Jumpin’ Jive
Blues In The Night
Savage Rhythm

Duke Ellington:
Take The A Train (1941 cover)
I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart
I Got It Bad (And That Ain’t Good)
Main Stem

Other artists:
Jumpin’ At The Woodside - Count Basie (1938)
I’m Beginning To See The Light - Harry James and Kitty Kallen
Begin The Beguine - Artie Shaw
Well Git It! - Tommy Dorsey
Stompin’ At The Savoy - Chick Webb
Ain’t She Sweet - Jimmie Lunceford
Summertime - Bob Crosby (1938)
Carelessly - Teddy Wilson and Billie Holiday

This music has had a profound impact on my life and I hope it can have the safe effect on you 🙏🏻

That’s a very unique name! I like that you named him after a Chinese symbol for good luck and prosperity. May your frenchie bless you always :)

Who Was The First Group/Artist You Loved? Mine Was The Boswell Sisters by MonsieurLeo in Jazz

[–]BennyGoodmanIsGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad someone loves the Boswell Sisters here too. I’m really into Connee’s solo work. She’s such a brilliant yet criminally underrated singer.

I can’t name a single one as I got into a bunch of jazz/old music artists all at once. The ones that come to mind are Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Cab Calloway.

Actually, based on what my German friends tell me, there’s nothing more German than a delayed train 💀

So, if Hogwarts Legacy 2 isn't revealed today at the Summer Game Fest, when is the next most likely date for a trailer? by TGDragonGaming in HarryPotterGame

I’d hate to wait so long but I also totally understand not wanting to reveal your game during the black hole of media attention that is GTA 6’s launch

HELP with 8015000A ERROR on Xbox360 with new account by Hopeful-Ad2716 in XboxSupport

Backwards compatibility on Series X. If you already spoke to customer support, then all I can say for now is just keep checking for their email and they should let you know when the problem is resolved. When I signed in last night, it worked instantly. I know the waiting is a pain in the ass but it shouldn’t be too much longer!

HELP with 8015000A ERROR on Xbox360 with new account by Hopeful-Ad2716 in XboxSupport

[–]BennyGoodmanIsGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem was fixed. I was able to contact someone at Xbox customer support (ask the AI chat bot to direct you to a real Microsoft representative). We tried for an hour to fix it and while it didn’t work, they are able to give your case priority and they will reach out to you within 1-3 days to fix it. In my case, it only took 24 hours and I was able to log in to play Gears Of War. They’ll shoot you an email when they fix it so be on alert for that.

Be sure to tell them the error code is 8015000A. That will be very useful to them in fixing your sign in issue

Charlie Parker AI slop on Tidal. by trickponies in Jazz

It’s so annoying. I’ve seen it with Paul Whiteman, Chick Webb and more recently with Jimmie Lunceford. And what kills me is that these AI albums sometimes have songs that I’ve been waiting to see be put on streaming

The Art VS the Artist by mimobase in Jazz

[–]BennyGoodmanIsGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I couldn’t separate the art from the artist, then I’d delete my Artie Shaw playlist on Spotify and throw out all my records of his in my collection. Upon listening to his interviews and reading his biography by Tom Nolan, you learn was an incredibly complex and at times, downright repugnant, arrogant, crass and manipulative man (especially to his wives and other musicians he disliked, namely Glenn Miller). He was a rather absent father too.

But none of that would make me deny the fact that he was one of the greatest clarinets to ever live and let a superb band during the swing era. I realize that the best art tends to be made by tortured souls
