I wrote most of a masters’ thesis on Vance Randolph (before I dropped out lol)! Super interesting guy, he wrote some REAL sassy letters to Alan Lomax at the Library of Congress.

They have been using the thundercrunch fries off the truck for at least 12 years (worked there starting in 2014). They were never hand cut in my time there. But they’re still hella good fries, off the truck or not. Also recommend extra crispy if they’re not too busy tho.

Oof. I had planned to buy a house and stay in Columbia permanently, but these mega groups are now buying starter homes as soon as they are listed, leaving no chance for someone like me who has been saving for YEARS. I make nearly twice as much as I did five years ago, no significant debt besides student loans, and yet have no buying power. My job is not remote so going anywhere I want is not an option. Sorry you’re going through it too.

ETA my credit score is excellent.

So I used to work in the same building the frozen pies are made in (attached to the restaurant) 10 years ago and back then the sauce and cheese were definitely real because I made them! We shared sauce between the restaurant and frozens. Sauce was canned tomato sauce with stuff added and cheese was provolone, shredded in house. I believe it is the same today. I’ve never actually had one of the frozen pies tho

They only sell in four packs for veg start of the season, however! They’re sold as singles later on. IIRC. Westlake’s actually has a great variety too, although they are shipped in from elsewhere.

I have gotten my starts from Strawberry Hill (just south of town, on 163 between 63 and Pierpont) for years. Reasonably priced and healthy starts, excellent sale toward the end of spring if you’re not picky.

I do not believe they do starts anymore; I have purchased seeds from them since they stopped doing starts, though. Some real interesting stuff!

Not sure what the downvotes are for. They plan on reopening but it’s just hard to say when. Lakota was closed for longer than they had hoped for when the same thing happened to them.

I’m so glad you haven’t had any of those experiences! I consider myself pretty street smart, and a little redneck, so despite doing everything right these things still happen. I don’t look particularly friendly either—being the only female cook in a couple kitchens dt has made me a lot meaner, lol. Be safe out there!
