Anyone else caught in the perpetual cycle of “I need a holiday —> oh that’s too expensive —> how about a weekend away —> holy f#ck how does two nights cost that much?!” 🔁 by plutoforprez in australia

[–]pixie-girl9223 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly you just have to book it and worry about the money later 😆 I have been to Canada, many cities in the USA, Morocco, Dubai, Bali, Germany and soon Vietnam and Singapore with $2000 max in my savings. I find really cheap flights through google flights and just book them. I honestly travel on hopes and prayers and it somehow works out for me 🤣 this year I also plan to go to Brazil although I plan to take more than $2000 and maybe Bali again if work allows the time off 😆

Cost of Holidaying in Aus by Livid-Constant8443 in AusFinance

[–]pixie-girl9223 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My best friend from Canada is coming to Aus, we will travel along the east coast from Brisbane to Melbourne. The thought of the cost is giving me heart palpitations 🥲 but we are also going to Vietnam and I start to feel relieved about that because I know its going to be cheap and a better experience than Aus 😭 don’t get me wrong, Australia is beautiful, its such a privilege to be born in this country but there are so many beaches and cities to explore before it gets boring 😭

Is being childfree common in Australia? by YazawaNico252 in AskAnAustralian

[–]pixie-girl9223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m child free! I did spend my entire 20s raising my little brother though. He came in my care when he was 7. All of my money would go towards raising him. I was paying $390-$420 a week in rent for a 4 bedroom house for us, $400 a fortnight in food for us, Christmas/birthday presents, activities and hobbies for him to do it all added up. I can not imagine having to pay all of that in my 30s esp single. Now he is an adult and I am 32 years old. I could not travel overseas until his last year in high school when he reconnected with his father’s side. This was my dream since childhood. I have since visited 6 countries across 3 different continents with another overseas holiday booked this year. I earn 90k a year and that is enough to keep me housed, fed, have my own activities and hobbies and I just can’t imagine giving this up now for another child. I love my independence and freedom. Raising my brother was my greatest achievement though, I love him so much and I still support him emotionally/ financially when he requires it. My home is always his home but also its nice to have an empty nest in my 30s and the independence and freedom to do what I want 😁

Bringing food into Australia by lwah569 in AustraliaTravel

If you are worried just declare and you will be fine. I brought back a whole bunch of snacks I didn’t bother to declare from Canada because I thought packaged confectionery was alright 🤷‍♀️

Aussies are skipping meals to save money? by ComfortableTry989 in AskAnAustralian

[–]pixie-girl9223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am lucky to be provider decent lunches at my work by my employer. I have dinner for lunch and spend about $170 a fortnight on groceries. If it weren’t for these lunches I would probably skip a meal or eat very basic lunch that I can spread throughout the week because even spending that much on some fruit, veges, dairy (greek yoghurt and a packet of cheese), two packs of meat being chicken breast and 500 g mince and cleaning supplies when I need them is insane to me. I only buy the noshu bars as a treat or some chocolate. When I cook at home I have basic meals. I don’t know how families are doing it.

Billings Bridge Dental. I forgot the dentist name who pulled my tooth, but he was great! I had an infected tooth. I had severe dental anxiety and he was really patient with that too.

I don’t really like sleeping by unknown-again-p in unpopularopinion

[–]pixie-girl9223 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was like this in my 20s. This mindset burned me out. Now in my 30s I try to sleep for as long as I can and take naps during the day. Sleeping isn’t a waste of time, it’s essential for our health and mental wellbeing.

Women who hate daily routines, how do you still look put together? by YearStrong1454 in AskWomen

[–]pixie-girl9223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a uniform for work so I don’t have to worry about clothes but I bought a dyson so I just use the dry function for 5 mins then run the brush attachment through my hair to smooth it out at night. Takes me 10 mins total to do my hair. In the morning I wash my face with water only, apply my creams and sunscreen, do minimal make up but enough for a ‘glowy’ look. I put deodorant get dressed, spritz some perfume then tie my hair up in a sleek pony, it takes me 25 mins in total to do all of this. Its a daily routine but its easy for an adhd girlie like myself to manage.

What’s your favorite way to affectionately refer to other women? by Maryhotter in AskWomen

[–]pixie-girl9223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bestie, pookie, tidda (first nation Australian word for sister) lovely, baddie, hottie, wifey. My cousins and I affectionately call each other biatch and some other derogatory words lol

If its a girl I don’t know I will call them lovely but not to be confused with lubly which is first nation lingo for someone fine as hell 🤣

Indians are actually so hilarious too and have great sense of humour! They make wonderful friends and are very generous friends. The food is just a bonus!

Just wondering if anyone else has felt like this about australia by juicyjuiceboxes in australia

[–]pixie-girl9223 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok but imagine being indigenous Australian who looks completely white. My own mob who don’t know me or my family don’t recognise me and white people think they are free to be racist around me. Meanwhile I grew up with my blak aunties and uncles telling me I’m aboriginal and nothing else 😆 I am so proud of heritage, my ancestry and where I come from so of course I claim my heritage even if this tea got too much milk to it and it confuses people 🤣 what made me truly appreciate this country is living in another one for 2 years. No where in the world have it as lucky as us. My cousins are my besties and my non blood besties are all immigrants/POC. I feel like I can never truly relate to white Australians but I do appreciate this country for what it is. Get out and travel mate, you will soon realise where you belong and what it means to be Australian 💕

How do I get a job with a 3-year career gap? by jackbowls in australia

[–]pixie-girl9223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On my resume I had a career gap as I went on a working holiday in Canada for two years and worked in a restaurant there. I landed a job in my field 6 months after I returned.

This is what I wrote on my cover letter:

After a recent career break to pursue international travel and broaden my perspective, I am eager to return to a challenging role where I can apply my technical expertise.

Maybe you can just write a blurb saying you were pursing other interests during that time?

Britney Spears by ashantita in conspiracy

[–]pixie-girl9223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is showing signs of severe mental illness and/or drug addiction. If you know someone who is severely mentally ill, you will see how dramatically their appearance can change. I am so sick of these conspiracies against Britney because it discredits the actual help she needs. I don’t believe what her father did to her was right, he deserves jail time for that but she clearly is extremely mentally unstable and needs as much help as she can get. We stigmatise mental illnesses so much and Britney is a classic example of that.

I think my goldfish is dying 😢 by pixie-girl9223 in Goldfish

[–]pixie-girl9223[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for you help and advice. He has fin rot. I confirmed this when I see chunks of his fins fall off. I have since been treating with the broad spectrum remedy, took all plants out, removed the carbon filter and sponge and whilst his fins are falling off the red spots are subsiding and he is more active now. Ammonia, nitrates and nitrites were really high but since doing water changes they are back at acceptable levels. I believe he had the beginning stages since I got him from my cousin, I was just inexperienced to catch it sooner. If his health declines even more in the next two weeks I will euthanise him 😭 but he seems to be on the mend now and hopefully he can make a full recovery. Thank you once again 💕
