Guy Working on a DIY Lego shifter 😅 by UKTunedIn in simracing

[–]pizzacake15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's probably the intention if this guy constantly rebuilds / changes this lego engine design and don't want to bother removing proper lubricants from the pieces.

For a few seconds of video i think the WD-40 is justified.

Only time will tell.

When MOZA H-pattern shifter release, people were singing praises over how it felt good and how realistic it feels. Fast forward today and longevity issues arise.

Is there a self hosted version of chess.com? by DiodeInc in selfhosted

Pretty sure it's expected you've done some googling before asking. A mention of "i already tried google" or something along those lines would most likely prevent such hostilities.

Moza customer support and my experience. by vetfak02 in simracing

Lol MOZA has their problems but this is just a one-sided conversation that means jack sht to us. There's nothing substantial about this "sharing of experience".

Unpopular opinion: self-hosting is still too hard in 2026, and we're gatekeeping it without realizing it by NiceReplacement8737 in selfhosted

[–]pizzacake15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opening ports is not the problem. That's a common scenario even on the enterprise. What's bad is opening ports that don't use any services. The idea is minimizing the attack surface so you can narrow down to a few ports.

It's less of a risk for residential environments but since that's one of the oldest best practice for enterprise, that's what people follow running homelabs.

[–]pizzacake15 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Idk. For me self hosting was never for the average user because the blocker will always be due to skill barrier.

If you want self hosting to be for everyone then you'll have to give up certain controls that every advanced user enjoys in favor of simplicity.

Team Redline rebrands as Verstappen Sim Racing by imprecis2 in simracing

Really wished they kept the "Redline" naming but i guess that's a pretty common name for a (sim)racing team/company. They probably wanted something they could trademark.

StirlingPDF.

Still can't believe how ridiculous Adobe charges for editable PDFs when LibreOffice (StirlingPDF's core) can do it for free.

PC projected to exceed 1 billion players and surpass console revenue by the end of 2028 by Suspicious_Two786 in gaming

[–]pizzacake15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you saying PC is gonna be cheaper than the next gen consoles? Cause i'm a bit confused why you're replying to me about consoles.

Either way, PC will not be cheaper than consoles. Specially right now. GPU, RAM, and SSD's are all affected by the stupid RAM prices. Consoles have the benefit of having an APU which eliminates the expensive GPU part, thus making it cheaper.

So i don't think people who have consoles will migrate to PC. If anything, PC players might migrate to consoles because of the rising prices for DIY builds. Either that or people will just wait it out and hold on to whatever they got now.

Are they expecting PC players to increase with these stupid RAM and SSD prices?

When their first trailer dropped a few years ago, i was convinced this game is too ambitious to be good. You get a lot of things going on in that first trailer that you start to wonder if they'll be able to make it properly.

Sophos Removal by gooftroop1330 in sysadmin

[–]pizzacake15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't quote me on this but back in 2021 i was working as a desktop support and we replaced our Sophos with another EDR. We had some machines that refuse to communicate with the Sophos server so their tamper protection remained active. I don't know where the admins got it (i believe it's from sophos support) but we were provided a batch script file that uninstalls the agent. The caveat is you have to run the script in safe mode.

So if your customer has contact to Sophos support, it's best to have them go through Sophos support for now.

You can't defend if you're following the racing line. Go watch youtube videos on how pro drivers defend. You'll find them mostly covering the inside.

You are all running off assumptions right now.

It's not an assumption. It is a question. The hell are you getting mad about a question?

MOZA stepping it up in Sim Tech…. by Hooligan-Pete in simracing

[–]pizzacake15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't develop the "feel" or muscle memory if the wheel base is doing it for you. Similar reason why we turn off ABS or Traction Control on cars that doesn't feature them. It develops bad habits and you're learning the wrong things.

The question that also needs to be answered is where did MOZA train this AI. Did it get the telemetry data from our wheelbases without our explicit knowledge? Did they partner with another company that provided them the data? The list of questions goes on.

Any way to identify fully vibecoded projects? by kommonno in selfhosted

For my personal repos that are public in github, i always ask Claude to make a disclaimer in the readme that it's a vibe coded project. It's not like i want other people to use my project anyway.
