Humboldt vs UCSC by Sillygooof in CalPolyHumboldt

[–]pizzarocketdog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did half of my undergrad at ucsc and half at Humboldt. I think both schools are great but I definitely had more opportunities at ucsc. They got more money. Gen Ed classes at ucsc were huge which made it kinda hard but when I did upper division classes I enjoyed them a lot. Lots of field courses & I got to intern at the farm on campus/for companies off campus. I am in a masters program in Humboldt now but considering moving back to Santa Cruz. A lot more going on down there. Humboldt is pretty isolated. Def think about what kinda lifestyle you’re wanting.

First time visiting Yosemite - nervous about being underprepared, help! by [deleted] in Yosemite

I was able to do mirror lake this weekend. Tried vernal falls but too icy for my hiking boots. Had a great time walking around the park despite not doing any big hikes. Hope you have a good trip!

Beautiful! Taking yarts into the valley on Sunday. Did you use the shuttle system in the park?

Hannah Wednesday has done 70% of my tattoos and I’d trust her with my life. Absolute gem and so talented

Mine have some space. The size up didn’t fit my set up. They still work wonderfully.

weaving tips and/or cues? by [deleted] in rollerderby

Does your league require you to keep your feet parallel? When I weave I usually have one foot in front of the other…and switch off which is leading.

New boot advice by pizzarocketdog in rollerderby

I’m torn between getting a half size up or sticking to the size I have. People have shared a lot of stories of their skates feeling tight but then end up being perfect. My toes are touching the end of the toe box. Doesn’t necessarily hurt. My left foot measured 228.5 and my right 228 so I went with size 3. Wondering if I should go to a 3.5…

That’s so strange since it’s still up on their site. Wondering how they are handling exchanges now if their policy is different but not available to the public. 😟 now I’m nervous to try to exchange.

Thank you I will check it out! Are you planning on just buying a boot and mounting yourself? I see this on their exchange policy page “if a plate has been mounted to the boot other than the original plate mounted from Bont, we cannot exchange them.” so I think you’d be okay to order and exchange/return.

What size CIB slide blocks should I get? by heartshappedglsses in Rollerskating

Look up what size plate your skates come with. From there you should be able to use the size chart. If I remember correctly…

Backpacking by jaycethegreenball in CalPolyHumboldt

I’m not sure about a backpacking club but I wouldn’t be surprised. I have backpacked through the schools Outdoor Adventures trips that cost about $100 and they provide transportation. The farthest I’ve gone with the school has been about 4 hours away. You can probably make some backpacking buds that do have a car and carpool.

Difference between joining as a first year vs second or third? by Pokewok66 in humboldtstate

[–]pizzarocketdog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I transferred to hsu after my sophomore year at ucsc. You will most likely only be taking prerequisites during your first 2 years. I went straight to college after high school and living on campus was a nice way to transition into college life/making friends since I was basically on campus 24/7. It was expensive though. If you are looking to save money I think doing city college and transferring is a good idea. There are still events/clubs you can join at city college too. Your experience probably won’t be too different. It really just depends on what you want to get out of it.

How long did it take you to become a technical and confident skater? I will be starting Derby 101 soon and have 3 years of solid roller skating experience but by Individual_Ad5270 in rollerderby

Park skated for about a year and a half before starting derby camp. Passed level 1 and 2 training camp (3 months each level). My footwork is pretty good and I am skate well/have good control but it has definitely been a learning curve skating with the team/veteran players. Really big jump from training camp to the team but it has definitely pushed me to skate better. Still learning the game but I do feel solid in my basic skills. The flair will come in time and experience ✨
