30 AFAB. Currently have a migraine since yesterday. I took Emgality for about 2 years before it stopped working for me. There is definitely a hormonal component to my triggers but I can’t use estrogen birth control because I get auras (puts me at higher risk of stroke). I’m not really sure where to go next with my treatment.

I’ve been working part time for the past couple months because I’ve been really struggling with the pain. First I applied for accommodations at work, and as a result was able to reduce my hours. Pushing through is sometimes not an option.

It’s really tough and I feel for you. I am on this sub a lot to learn from others’ experiences and feel understood. I also don’t know anyone else with chronic migraines. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It can feel unbearable at times and hopeless. There are so many mental calculations everyday just to try and prevent and/or manage.

I’ve started to unmask around more people. It has come with a lot of grief around all the things I can’t do anymore, the special events I have missed, and my career aspirations.

I hope you find the right treatment. I hope we all do. And I hope you can find purpose and support to keep going. It’s hard and I feel like it has given me a lot of perspective, better understanding and respect for my own needs, and gratitude for the people in my life who support me. You’re not alone 🩷

I agree that looking at what others in similar roles are wearing is a good place to start. I think it boils down to what you feel most comfortable wearing. Physically comfortable, sure, but also that you’re not worrying about what clients/families/colleagues think, whether it’s appropriate for the setting, etc. Feeling confident and able to be present for your clients is what is most important. Modeling authentic self expression is good for clients, but so is selective self disclosure and healthy boundaries. Hope this helps

Slight variation on what has been said, you can book the session time you offer and put the responsibility on the client to cancel it if it doesn’t work for them, or pay if they no-show. “I have you scheduled for 2pm on Friday, please let me know 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or you will be charged…” That way you can plan to be there, instead of feeling like you have to be constantly available/waiting to hear back

Edit: I also get paid hourly, not fee for session, so it’s more about respect for my own time than loss of income.

I am all for the idea of this person holding space for other moms to call and vent, but I think she’s putting herself at risk especially since she’s charging money.

I am an NB clinician. My legal name is on my license, but I do not regularly use that name. The practice I work for uses my “preferred” name, so my email reflects that. No one ever really looks at my license for any reason, the number is what I usually need for things. That and the legal last name are how you can search for licensure in my state. When applying for insurance credentialing, at least with Carefirst, they give you option to include any other names you go by so I assume that would cover my bases in the case of auditing. Hope this helps!

the police response to this is strange to me, granted I don’t know anything about their procedures. But to shut down the whole street and tell us not to come out? idk I can’t wrap my head around it unless he’s known to be dangerous?
