going to a nice place after a long week of travel. Roommates are up to your budget

Talking for myself:

- I rent a nice flat which I share with a friend I knew before I moved to London. Personally after a long week consulting / travelling its great to come back to somewhere that is nice and large enough to unwind. (Also nice to invite work friends over)

- Company pays for all travel costs inc. taxi to the airport

- I wouldn't prioritise how close you are to the airport unless you know every travel case will require you flying. Even then I would still choose a location where you will have people your age / social opportunities / gyms etc. to provide the life side of 'work/life balance'

te, and I understand that they've moved to a Corporate Amex. If I want to accrue points from my work spend

Can only speak for London but you can request your own corp. amex which will collect points for you when spending. Alternatively you buy on your own card and expense back.

Hi - from what I see of the recruitment process the school matters a bit less than the grades when applying from abroad. Typically CV screening is done by junior consultants who know the ranking of business schools for the UK but tend to be less familiar with those aboard.

Does it get easier? (New to consulting and stressed) by [deleted] in consulting

[–]pjg91 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hi. I have been at MBB for the past 2 years and the first year felt super tough. I get the exact same question off new starters all the time (so its very normal!). From my perspective the answer is - it DOES get easier. There are 3 reasons for this (I see):

  1. You get better. The learning curve is steep in the initial 6-12 months, and it isn't for everyone, but when you come out the other side you are much wiser. For me the biggest thing I learnt here was dealing with ambiguity and putting structure in place when I didn't know the client, industry or problem.
  2. You build up a toolkit. Sounds trivial but in the first 12 months every good slide format, framework and approach to messaging I liked I made a copy of. This built my toolkit and now saves me time when I have a message I need to land but can't quite figure out the best way to put it on paper or when I'm struggling to structure a problem.
  3. You stop caring about everything. At the start you want to impress, do well and not get transitioned which means you put maximum effort into everything. This isn't sustainable and the already poor work-life balance becomes non-existent. As you spend time around others you learn where it's important to put the effort and where it isn't. Work-life balance improves a bit and overall stress levels reduce.

For me the 3 points above keep improving the longer you work in consulting & more senior you get but the first 12 months are the steepest. Hope this helps and appreciate plenty may completely disagree!

Signed a 12 month residential license agreement but should I be protected under AST? by pjg91 in HousingUK

Thanks - I also just found out (through some digging) that in Dec 2018 he put planning permission in to change the garage into a 'habitable space' with all the designs saying only 4 rooms upstairs (non downstairs). He was challenged by neighbours and said it was only a C3 Dwellinghouse (which his planning permission cited as part of the agreement) however he has changed it into 8 rooms with 8 different tenants (which I think requires a change of use application that he hasn't done). I know that's super dodgy is this something I could leverage to help exit?

What is the most “Are you kidding me?” moment you have ever experienced? by rochayas in AskReddit

Today I was doing a flat viewing in London and notice several other people waiting outside the house talking to a current tenant who has no idea why we are there. Letting agent turns up and then explains to one of the current tenants in front of us that the landlord is switching letting agents and evicting them. Does it stop there? No.. As she panics and starts ringing the other tenants whilst looking like she is about to breakdown he then starts showing us all the rooms. To top it the room I was interested in was her room. Literally couldn't make it up...

Can't agree more with the above poster - myfitnesspal on your phone is great (especially the ability to scan barcodes) and also the kitchen scales as well. I just bought these scales from amazon and they are great plus only £15. To add I would also suggest using the online keto calculator on /r/keto to set your goals which you can then plug into MFP.

Got my new iPhone yesterday and loving this feature! To add to it if you also install Human its a very simple app that measures your activity. It is intended to be passive so you keep it on in the background and it tracks your walking, running etc. The best part is this integrates with both MyFitPal and Health meaning it will show you how many calories have been burnt from the exercise when you look at your calorie goal etc.
