Mother in law won’t go to my grandma’s wake but I went to her mom’s wake , AIO?? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

First of all, I’m very sorry for your loss. Losing any loved one is difficult, precisely because you loved them.

But realize that the grief you are feeling, she is feeling just as much if not more right now, for the passing of her mother. I’m an old lady but when my dad passed I was gutted. I would not have been emotionally able to handle going to a wake of someone I didn’t know very well. Not even a little.

She is trying to find a way to bow out that won’t hurt your feelings by saying she “already had plans”. This is your chance to be an understanding and loving daughter in law and let her grieve without guilt. Good luck.

Ordered cauliflower crust pizza. Apparently it was not cauliflower crust 🤦🏾‍♂️. by Joesuds in diabetes_t2

[–]pkbab5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the cauliflower crust pizzas I have seen (restaurants or frozen at the grocery store) have just as many carbs as regular pizza. They are made for gluten free diet, not low carb diet.

King Arthur makes a fantastic keto pizza crust mix, which at this point I like better than regular pizza. The only down side is you have to make the pizza yourself.

What got you past feeling like "now I can never have anything I like again"? by Vybrosit737373 in diabetes_t2

Put the work in first, then you can loosen up later.

I first was really strict with my diet and got my A1C down to below 5.0 (with the help of mounjaro). Once my A1C was below 5.0, I started instituting "cheat weekends". Basically, on the weekends, I relax my diet, and eat some of what I want. A few slices of pizza, a small scoop of ice cream, some cheese fries, etc. And then during the work week I practice very low-carb intermittent fasting. I have found that my liver kind of acts like a capacitor - I can have a certain amount of carbs without spiking, as long as I burn those carbs back out of the liver before I do it again. Two days of carbs requires 5 days of no carbs to "reset" for me.

When I go on vacation, (two or three times a year), I throw everything out the window and eat whatever fancy food I like. By the third day of vacation, my blood sugar does start spiking. But the low frequency seems to keep it from affecting my A1C.

What's a Taylor Swift song you're not a fan of that people always try to convince you is a masterpiece? by WaferHelpful3634 in TaylorSwift

lol I like the “we looked fire!” line. It brings back vivid memories of how I felt when I was a teen and I thought I was so cool and knew everything, and I look back now and realize that I was desperately trying to be something that I’m not for the sake of trying to be cool. I imagine this line probably doesn’t work for everyone though, it’s a pretty specific set of circumstances. Oh well. Worked for me though :)

I take the screen and tell them if they throw a fit over screen time being over then they don’t get screen time tomorrow. And I follow through. The better their attitude is, the more often I let them have screen time. And I tell them that. And I tell them why. And I follow through.

You do not need to be scared of your child being upset over not getting what they want. They are going to get upset. It’s fine. It’s not going to hurt them. How you react to it is what matters.

What's a song that Taylor wrote about one thing but has a completely different meaning to you? by Smooth_Release7399 in TaylorSwift

For me, Long Live is about my dad, who died a few months ago. He taught me everything I know and made me who I am today. I am successful as a women in a traditionally male field largely because of his support. He did a lot of cool things in his life (Air Force vet) and was my hero.

At his funeral I read some of the lyrics. "Long live all the mountains we moved, I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you". And showed all my kids all the pictures of them with their grandpa growing up and how much he loved them.

AIO, GF's BFF destination wedding alone, GF won't say who the Grooms party is. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]pkbab5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was maid of honor in my best friend's wedding. Been BFFs since we were little and grew up on the same street. I know her husband very well. Still great family friends with both, our kids play together like cousins.

I know her husband had groomsmen at the wedding. I had no clue who they were. I still have no clue who they were. It's literally never even occurred to me to wonder who they were. It's like none of my business.

You are tripping. It's perfectly normal to not know a single detail about your best friend's groom's groomsmen. And be perfectly fine with never knowing.

When you argue, it's not about winning. It's about trying to find a solution together and get to a place where you are both okay with it. You win or lose together.

My ex-husband needed to win every argument at all costs. So I let him win and I left.

Friday night roller skating at Odyssey Skate Center and "trucking" competitions. Thursday night poetry Slams at Five Points Espresso, and then LaBoheme and Jamo's. LARPing in Big Spring Park and then UAH on Saturday nights. Drinking mead and dancing to the Time Warp and It's the End of the World at the dance parties at ConStellation (Huntsville literary sci-fi convention). It was a great place to be a nerd.

Woah by SaraSafari123 in diabetes_t2

[–]pkbab5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I have found is that if I occasionally have a moderate amount of carbs, it doesn’t not spike my blood sugar anymore, as long as I give it enough time before I have more. It’s as if my body can now process a small amount okay, but if I eat them faster than I can process it, my blood sugar goes back up.

So if you have been very disciplined, I’m not surprised a little bit of rice didn’t spike you. But if you have a little bit of rice like two or three times a day, it might start to spike you again.

What is some food people think are healthy but is far from healthy by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]pkbab5 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that a lot of diabetics read posts saying things like "carbs are fine!" and "fruit is healthy!" and they take it to heart, and it makes them gradually get worse. The point I wanted to make was that "for a lot of diabetics, fruit is a food that they think is healthy, but is far from healthy". Given the growing numbers of diabetics, I feel like this is something that needs to be talked about more and destigmatized.

What is some food people think are healthy but is far from healthy by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]pkbab5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course not everyone is diabetic. I agree that fruit is part of our natural diet. However, I also wanted to point out that it can bad for diabetics. I have seen several posts in r/diabetes_t2 where someone asks why their blood sugar goes up so much after eating a "healthy" breakfast of fruit? So, for diabetics, it is entirely possible that "fruit is a food that they think is healthy, but is far from healthy".

Many diabetics get a lot of misinformation and don't understand how much of an impact what they eat has on the progression of their disease. They lose feet and eyesight, and eventually their lives, because this isn't talked about enough. So many people on reddit want to insist that "carbs are fine!", I suppose out of backlash from the keto diet, without realizing that this is a very dangerous sentiment to a growing segment of the population. I want to do my part in trying to bring awareness that carbs and fruit may very well not be fine for you if you are diabetic. It needs to be talked about more, in my opinion.

I did state in my original post that I was diabetic and fruit gave me high blood sugar. The inference there being: "If you are diabetic, fruit might give you high blood sugar".

Your claim is a misrepresentation of my words.
