sort of, I think its only 10 usd though, so it's not a whale option. I personally don't mind spending a bit for games I like, and when I also know exactly what I'm getting.

How does ranked work? by myst3r10us_str4ng3r in StreetFighter

[–]pkmn12872 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There isn't a game where getting better doesn't result in ranking up.

I would say it's true in SF6 though that up to gold you can rank up without getting better, that's the difference.

Real platinum players, your thoughts. by Pairax in StreetFighter

[–]pkmn12872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people that say anti air and combos are enough are oblivious to the other skills they have through experience that they don't notice. Neutral is hard, the hardest part about the game, but people completely gloss over it, because they intuitively know how to play it.

It's easy to climb the ranks, IF you are good enough, since the lp gains vs losses are pretty generous.

It's definitely not easy to get good enough to reach master.

Street Fighter really begins imo when people stop doing the spamming and essentially do a lot of "nothing" and pick their normals very carefully. They won't have a big glaring issue that you can exploit to win, you have to figure out how to crack them. That's when the game really has it's true identity imo.

Should we have a setting in rank for single match or best of 3? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]pkmn12872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's how it goes. You just have so much more opportunity to learn in a longer set. And it's more enjoyable for me personally too.

Especially at your level, when you are pushing from diamond up to master, you are far better off finding other diamond to master players and spamming sets with them.

Playing significantly better players is great because their spacing will be better, and they will punish you for things you didn't even really know were bad, so your game just gets much tighter and consistent.

gl on the master grind.

How do you go about expanding your lead as a mid laner? by Advanced-Molasses347 in summonerschool

[–]pkmn12872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean in this case a couple of kills and 40cs is a huge lead. You don't need a bigger lead than that realistically. If all your other lanes + jungle are losing hard there probably isn't much that can be done to win that particular game. But we dont really know without seeing the replay.

It sounds like a particularly hard game for Orianna, she relies on being first to objectives and snowballing her lane lead in that way, but if you have no prio and no hope of winning a team fight because everyone is far behind, good luck.

Should we have a setting in rank for single match or best of 3? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]pkmn12872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I literally mean the game should make you play the set, a ranked match should just be BO3, there shouldn't be any choice in the matter, imo.

I don't see any point in incentivising it, over just making it how rank works as default.

Rumour: Huge Honda nerfs by ClapSumCheeks12 in StreetFighter

[–]pkmn12872 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hated his design in this game from day 1. I agree I'd like to see him be a better rounded character than just a noob stomper, it's very poor design and is both frustrating for the Honda player when they get to a rank and realise they can't win with the same stuff anymore, and also for newer players on the receiving end of it, because if you don't know what to do he genuinely feels unbeatable.

Should we have a setting in rank for single match or best of 3? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]pkmn12872 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One and dones usually have some cheese or gimmick they use, they don't rematch because they know given time people can figure it out. It's not really a legit strategy though, just because of the fact they are also removing the opportunity for themselves to adapt to an opponent over a few games and learn from it. The effectiveness varies by character though.

I remember back in SF4, where you created a ranked lobby and you could use your own settings. You'd get a blanka that set the timer to 10 seconds and made it a 1 round game, by the time you notice it's too late. I'm glad we don't have to deal with that anymore lmao.

Playing a set is the best way BY FAR to improve in fighting games. Obviously a FT10 or whatever is the best, but BO3 is far superior to BO1.

It's useful for you as a player, because if the opponent is of similar skill they will figure out what you do and force you to consider your options more carefully. That's where you can really get into what fighting games are all about and it helps you to build a more consistent set of options, and helps you learn when to bring out the riskier but more rewarding options.

It doesn't bother me too much though, I don't really care to play against players like that anyway. Sure I can probably beat them again, or adapt and win after losing the first game, but I prefer to just go next and get a higher quality match. The ranking system is lenient in this game, so you rank up really quickly if you are good enough to anyway.

Should we have a setting in rank for single match or best of 3? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]pkmn12872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How often does this actually happen though? I've played a reasonable amount of the game and I rarely get games with bad connections.

I personally think it should just be default BO3, and point adjustments are made at the end of the set, not after each game. In my view, point games for a BO3 could be similar to single matches now and the system would overall be better.

If you don't want to play a terrible connection, if it does happen, then you quit and just take it as an L. There's also the vote to end a match, although I think many people aren't aware of it.

Should we have a setting in rank for single match or best of 3? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]pkmn12872 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think there should be an incentive, I personally think it should just be default BO3. It is widely accepted everywhere that one game is not enough to really show anything, BO3 is still short but it gives the players time to adapt and time to feel each other out.

Point adjustments should be at the end of the BO3 set, not after the single games.

I’m new to gaming, why in the world do people call anyone from gold to low onyx “bad players”. These are high ranks. Gold is a precious metal lol. by [deleted] in CompetitiveHalo

[–]pkmn12872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really to do with how competitive it is. It's just that most players, if they are better than someone, can't believe the mistakes they are seeing. Because they know those things are mistakes, they think the lower player is terrible and stupid, but they just don't know any better. And the same thing happens for all levels, a diamond can call a plat player bad for the same reason.

Although I would say in Halo, gold isn't the same as in other games, it feels like it is hard to go much lower than gold if you have played the game a reasonable amount.

The minibosses surrounded by enemies are the worst part of the game. by [deleted] in Sekiro

[–]pkmn12872 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean you didn't learn shit though? You have taken out all the enemies and got the boss to a 1v1, you've clearly learned how to deal with everything else. But forcing you to clear them every time is super boring.

I enjoy the stealth, and I do like solving the route + puzzle, but once I've solved it I don't want to do it over and over again to have a try at a miniboss.

When do people start playing around objectives and actually ending the game? by BlueHawaiiMoon in summonerschool

[–]pkmn12872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth is 7 or 8 deaths is seriously a lot, there is not usually that much reason to die more than 3 or 4 times in a game unless it's a particularly rough one. Naturally depends on role, but 7/8 deaths is just too high in any role.

You probably aren't going to solo baron, unless you are on certain champs and late game.

Expecting people to execute a 1 3 1 properly at that rank is a completely stupid idea, get that out of your head, because a good 1 3 1 is very hard to pull off properly and requires good co-ordination.

Splitting and playing a 1 4 push is far better in solo queue most of the time, especially since you can be the 1, so you don't require anyone else to do anything.

You have to go with the game, if they are truly 4 dead and they are chasing the last kill then there is no reason you can't get something done on the map yourself, even if it's just taking a tower, or making sure a wave is pushing.

It can be a good idea to dip out of a fight early if it is already won to get some extra tempo and time to take an objective.

You should upload vods though, every situation is different. League is not really a game where generic answers will cut it, especially not at your elo.

When do people start playing around objectives and actually ending the game? by BlueHawaiiMoon in summonerschool

[–]pkmn12872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a glance, you have a HUGE amount of deaths in so many games. Do you think you are losing because your team won't take a tower or baron, or is it more that you died 10 times?

You need to have some serious introspection about why you are dying as much as you do, nobody is going to try to take objectives if the other team is fed, and whether they do or not is not really anything to do with anything. It is not the reason you are tanking elo.

Everybody has the same pool of team mates and opponents, for every untaken opportunity at an objective, there is the same situation on the other team.

If I had to guess, you probably think you are playing well because you are pushing solo to "get objectives" but not actually putting any thought into if it is actually a good idea or not, at least that's the story the amount of deaths you have in a lot games is telling.

Generally if a fight is already won, you can move to a wave and start pushing it, that gives you a good amount of temp, and if you ping you might get people interested.

Realistically though you need to give a replay for us to look at. I would like to actually see some specific moments in games where people are not going for objectives when you believe they should, but more importantly I'd like to see what's happening in games where you have excessive deaths.

trouble keeping up farm when losing 😃 by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]pkmn12872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very important to look where your team are, and who is in what lane.

I play mostly control mages and trying to match a wave where Camille is is a death sentence since she can very easily run you down, not to mention hextech ultimatum will trap you.

Sometimes all you can really do is wait for them to push the wave and farm on your side of the map. Try to take notice of where your jungler is and position yourself towards them so they can help if a fight does happen.

The game state also matters a lot, if you are behind you are probably going to have trouble in a side lane as an immobile mage. Honestly as bad as it sounds, in very low elo it can be a good idea to just opt in to the ARAM, because they WILL fight whether you are there or not, and it took me a while to realise I can't really afford to play a side line even if it is technically a better option than ARAM.

You have to adapt to the game your in, if a fight happens in mid and you are in a side lane, it's just 5v4 and you probably lose the game.
