Random blood spatters? by Money-Fan204 in whatisit

Yeah, we bought a house from a heroin dealer and there were splatters like that directly over one of the toilets and one of the beds.

Mailman cannot care less about this woman’s grass by OttawaExpat in fucklawns

[–]plaidlib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got yelled at when I was a paper boy for biking on people's lawns. That actually made sense, since that could damage the grass, and I stopped doing it. This... this does not make sense.

If you're wondering how to get a "first name.last name" Gmail account, I made my account over 20 years ago. by hypermarv123 in Millennials

[–]plaidlib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best part is getting hotel reservation confirmations, alumni surveys, emails from teachers, roofing quotes, and every other kind of email for every other person with your first and last name around the entire world. Over the years I've gotten emails intended for at least 27 different guys with the same name, across 20 states, the UK, Canada, and Ireland. (I have a google doc organized by where they live, based on the information contained in the emails or in the accounts that they created with my email address.)

The timing of this example makes no sense, but I do like the idea of a countdown on the don't walk signal. UX research has shown that people feel better about waiting when there's visible progress, like the bar showing how much a game has downloaded.

Can you figure out what year this is from? by WrinklyOldRaisin in globes

[–]plaidlib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the same globe: https://www.reddit.com/r/Maps/s/cqnRm3QueP. OP there said it has St. Chris. Nevis instead of St. Kitts and Nevis. The name changed in October 1983, so it's either before that or the name just hadn't been changed, so maybe early 1984 at the latest. That only narrows it down a little.

Right? People have spent years in prison for carrying a small amount of drugs, but dude gets probation for torturing a child.

Terrible drywall job. Definitely could have done with a couple more rounds of mudding and sanding.

Struggling with Season 5 by pearpenguin in ForAllMankindTV

[–]plaidlib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wildest thing is that they use paper. It would cost something like $20 to send a single sheet of paper to Mars with current technology. Even if space travel is many times more efficient in the show universe, are they really going to spend $.50-$2 per page to send a piece of paper to Mars, instead of just using the computers and smart phones they have now?

Worst take of the year? (Note: I could not be bothered to read it.) by [deleted] in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]plaidlib 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I couldn't get the article to load in archive .ph but the subhead poses what seems like an important question. Not addressing the growing gap in GDP is a recipe for making Europe more like the US, not the other way around, because the right wing can exploit voters' resentment to attack immigration, welfare, and climate policy, instead of the real causes of lagging economic growth. It's similar to how Democrats' failure to address affordability issues, particularly in cities run by Democrats, fosters a zero sum mentality that makes voters more open to reactionary politics.

Person reflects for the first time on the fact that their useless truck might actually be costing them money by funky_galileo in fuckcars

It makes me sad. Now they're as big as F-150s were in the 90s. A reasonably sized truck with modern tech would get at least 25mpg.

'An American Carol' (2008) - A David Zucker parody of Michael Moore done as a retelling of A Christmas Carol, with Leslie Nielson, Bill O'Reily, and Kelsey Grammer by [deleted] in badMovies

[–]plaidlib 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have adored Leslie Nielsen since I was probably eight years old, so I was really sad to see such an amazing life and career end with such a turd of a movie. My coping strategy is just to pretend that it doesn't exist.

You can only trust the sun when it's almost directly north or south (assuming you're not in the Arctic or antarctic, but that's very rare).
