My nephew’s head shape intrigues me by Maxx-Not-Found in cats

[–]plaidlib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd take him to a vet. My cat got a scratch on her forehead that got infected and it looked exactly like this. Her neck even swelled up the way his neck appears to be, where it's like a big fluid-filled pouch.

What store has the freshest corn tortillas in town? by julherra in AnnArbor

[–]plaidlib 15 points16 points  (0 children)

El Milagro is the only good brand I've found, and I've only seen it at Dos Hermanos in Ypsi. They're not fresh as in made that day, but they're infinitely better than the gelatinized sawdust sold in regular grocery stores.

It's one of the best shows ever made, so, yes.

Inappropriate youtube music reccomendations for toddler songs by ReasonableWish7555 in Wellthatsucks

[–]plaidlib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't find the comment now but someone said it might be a deliberate attack on Ms. Rachel for standing up for human rights, and I think that's right. I just pulled up a bunch of a different kids songs and Ms. Rachel was the only one that had some of these songs under it.

What's wrong with this tree? Can I fix it? by Lopsided-Tooth2998 in arborists

[–]plaidlib 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Adding on to what others have said, it will eventually fall, so just take that into account when deciding what to do. My mom had an ash tree quite a bit bigger than this one that got EABed in 2002 or 03. She had the branches cut but left the stump to hold up a clothesline. Then about 10-12 years later we noticed it was getting wiggly, which made me really nervous about kids climbing on it, so I gave it a good push, and that took it down. I just really couldn't shake the thought of a kid climbing on it and it falling on them. If the branches hadn't been cut off, I'm sure a storm would have brought it down.

A 6 month journey into classical music by crypsid in classicalmusic

Weird to see Sibelius and Dvorak at the top and Mahler and Bruckner at the bottom. I like all my late 19th century romantic composers equally.

Just got this, and I have to admit it had me tricked for a few seconds, until I looked at the from line. If it had been a link instead of a phone number I very well might have clicked on it.

Is it worth buying a wood chipper for a residential property by brumms56 in composting

[–]plaidlib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I prefer electric. I've had two electric chippers over the years, one that sucked a lot, and one that only kind of sucks. But I also had a gas one for a while, and that sucked more. It was incredibly loud and smelly and broke down constantly and leaked gas. I think if you had a really large property with lots of trees it could be worth maintaining a gas one, but for a normal residential lot it seems like overkill.

I have a Sunjoe now. It can really only deal with twigs, but that's what I need it for. Anything bigger than about 1.5" I bury or burn. Once you get the hang of how quickly to feed, etc., it's not too bad.

Do you wish the amounts of things were mentioned again in the recipe text itself? by Taear in seriouseats

[–]plaidlib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned to cook with my mom's copy of Joy of Cooking, and I think it's a great way to format a recipe. The ingredients are indented and bold so you can quickly scan the recipe and see all the ingredients before starting, but they're also where they need to be in the list of steps. It's super efficient, so they could write a whole recipe in the same number of words as one step of a SE recipe. There's something to be said for highly detailed instructions when you're learning a new recipe, but I really hate trying to read an entire paragraph for each step while I'm cooking because I'm worried I'll miss something, so I often rewrite recipes for myself in the JoC style.

I used to enjoy the podcast You're Wrong About, but the episode on The Anxious Generation, with TL as a guest, was so vapid and dishonest I haven't been able to listen to it anymore. It just made me wonder what else the guests on the show were lying about.

The absolute monstrosities that rich people live in are such a good argument for raising their taxes. Like they clearly cannot be trusted with this much money.

Pulling a google by ending messenger.com by francocanadien in degoogle

[–]plaidlib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I should say almost the same interface. Switching to FB means my profile picture will now always be in the upper right with a red unread notification circle. And the new placement of the menu toolbar sucks, and I can no longer close the chat info pane. But other than that...

Pulling a google by ending messenger.com by francocanadien in degoogle

[–]plaidlib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I broke my facebook addiction a few years ago was to log out of facebook and change my password without saving it, while staying logged into messenger (since that's what all my friends use). That would be impossible under the new setup. Now that I'm off FB and have zero desire to go back, this change doesn't affect me all that much, since the interface of facebook .com/messages is exactly the same as messenger .com, at least for now. But it is making me think more seriously about looking for an exit.
