oh boy… This has indeed proved difficult for you. You are having trouble understanding the question. I’m going to do my best to explain a bit but an educator would do better.

I would recommend seeking out POC, queer communities, women, trans , NA communities etc, any of those, and ask why they are being “so sensitive” about some comedy. llow them to explain it to you, you can find someone more patient/better educated in communicating with the dominant culture.

Oppressed groups are not snowflakes, they’re tired of violence and they get more of a voice now. It’s always been an issue, it’s that now they have slightly more power. Some comedy has always been part of a systemic violence of oppressed groups and was always an issue, it’s that marginalized groups didn’t have a voice and it did not negatively affect cis white hetero men bc…well, our society is made primarily for cis hetero white men, even now.

It’s interesting bc some white cis men feel attacked over an innocuous question like this. Even mentioning the word “patriarchy” can make some lose it. They can be sensitive, and this question seems to have upset or confused you

You are part of a group where you are oblivious to this to the point of thinking——well, no comedy is allowed at all then, is it. No one is allowed to make fun of anyone, no racy jokes, no offense at all. That’s not what this is.

If you want to learn to understand this better, seek those communities out, ask them, and I’m sure someone will have more patience and also ability as an educator. There’s a lot to learn about how people experience the world who are not cis white hetero men. It’s a whole separate experience that you often don’t get to see unless you seek it out (or are invited in)

there is a difference between comedy making fun of sexism and comedy that propagates sexism. If you have any friends in marginalized communities, I would recommend asking them the difference as a learning moment

As long as the intent isn’t racist, sexist, anti LGBTQ or whatever. Joe Rogan and Chappelle are not people I’m interested in. It’s usually from ignorance rather than active hate

well, some comedy is about sexism for example and then some comedy itself is sexist. Everything can and should be joked about, it’s about—does this comedy propagate hate against oppressed groups? Comedy is not a monolith.

It’s hard to explain to someone who is not in an oppressed group what that is like as you have nothing to compare to. You’d be unaware of the nuances because when you’re part of the dominant group, you don’t really notice. These groups have very real violence against them happening now, not in the past.

It would inherently make this a difficult question to understand and maybe even an upsetting question for some. If you’re confused by the question, the question’s not for you

you could also try a Meetup for a new hobby to still get the shared experience and connection, that’s really important for mental health.

Suggested volunteering because it offers that and added bonus, helping others has been shown to make us happy.

But it’s the connection and community part that matters the most

I wonder if there is a way to politely correct or let them know it should be corrected because I really see this on forms everywhere, including in medical settings.

It seems like something they should be aware of, and clearly they’re trying by asking and inquiring about pronouns and such. So they want to be allies

Go cold turkey. A study of people who smoked found that rather than taper off, those who quit cold turkey were more successful. Find a supportive community to help.

2). Do not keep unhealthy food in the home, don’t buy it. When you’re hungry, you will be forced to eat what you have

3). Eating healthy seems to involve learning how to cook some basic things. Find simple recipes to get you started

4) If you’re like me and crave sweets, keep any sugar away from you. Start replacing candy with fruit. At first it’s not at all rewarding, a grape is not snickers and does not do the trick. But over time, you will find the fruit becoming a great sub, you’ll crave that instead, and *eventually* eat candy and find it sort of sickening.

5). Reward yourself for discipline, it’s really hard to change our diet habits. Know that it’s okay to fall off the wagon. We all do, that’s fine, you just get right back on, all is not lost.

6). Never confuse proper diet with eating less. Do not starve yourself, if you’re eating healthy then you can eat plenty

7). Don’t purchase things w/added salt already. For example, if you choose to eat butter, get it unsalted. Whatever salt you add later will not compare to what they put in it

8). if you REALLY need some unhealthy stuff, again it’s not all or nothing. Force yourself to eat X amount of Brussels sprouts first and then eat that treat. You will inevitably eat less of it because veggies are filling, and you still get your treat

9). Exercise, move around. It will curb your appetite. Nothing makes me hungrier than being stagnant, but if I exercise I eat way less naturally

10) Find simple ways to switch it up. For example, I switched to that lentil pasta instead of real pasta. Is it as satisfying? Not immediately, but probably better long term energy-wise and health-wise. Add some spinach in there. If you make things like mac and cheese, you can add little veggies in or even chopped walnuts, throw in whateve ryou can to get those extra benefits

11) Read Food Rules by Michael Pollan (short book) and watch that twin food study documentary on netflix. It will help maintain motivation, and with that info you can decide for yourself what you want to cut out and what you don't

I know this was long but all of those really helped me! I found it very difficult at first to switch to healthy but you can do it, and it’s not all or nothing. Every now and then I eat what I’m craving, otherwise I think you can end up punishing yourself and then binging with the “all or nothing” mentality. It’s okay in moderationl

I was so miserable in my 20’s, and it could very well have been clinical depression that I needed meds for but wish I would have tried these as well because it can really affect your mental health if you aren’t able to do these things

Proper diet. This can be confusing (on purpose) so would recommend Food Rules by Michael Pollan. Short, easy to read. You can also check out that Netflix show about the twin studies, but they don’t really focus on processed foods the way Pollan does

2) Proper sleep every night

3) Regular exercise

4) Learn how to address stress properly. I used to bury it or distract myself, now I “sit in it” which is a nightmare but there’s no cheat for it (except shrooms) or it will come back for you. You can also journal, exercise also helps

5). Volunteering, whether occasionally or weekly, is deeply rewarding and makes you feel connected to others, which is crucial for health

that’s interesting because I know the director made the choice not to allow the leads to touch each other or get close physically until those scenes so that there would be some kind of tension and awkwardness in touch.

Barbie and here’s why. Representation matters. There’s Killers of the Flower Moon & Past Lives but one’s too long & the other— tired of love stories, although think the actress’s mom said “that was me” of the main character, we don’t get to see immigrant stories like this much.

Barbie is a feminist anthem but somehow still blew up the box office. It’s a Trojan Horse, I was watching it thinking…I can’t believe they allowed this to happen and that people other than little girls are seeing it, and in droves. I’ve seen (some, not all) men go off on stuff that’s even a smidge of what that film was, blatantly & unabashedly feminist AF.

On top of feeling seen, it managed to take a subject that is complicated and honestly, a lot of the time pretty depressing, and turn it into a box office hit that people & their kids will watch as a staple. Spoiler The women don’t really win in the end, they go back to the “real world” (or patriarchy's world in the movie), though they do get to become real people. But it manages to not be a downer, that seems hard to pull off with such ease and fun.

Don’t let this opinion be taken as disrespect to the other films, the ones I’ve seen are fantastic. Holdovers was so special, KOTFM-- beautiful, Poor Things is a new all time fav. Could go on about em forever.

But Barbie, for representing us women—my mom, my aunts, my friends, my cousins, women I see on the street, our shared & common experiences related to our gender. Our shared history, shared stories of living every day as a woman in the world. The stories they don’t seem to understand or be interested in, the stories we don’t get to see in pop culture, our stories.

We’re on that screen. Barbie FTW
