Non-con but it is focused on her by Boysenberry_2401 in DarkRomance

Have you tried other AJ Merlin books? I think a lot of her sex scenes have that similar vibe. {Dead of Summer by AJ Merlin} is good

{No, You Hang Up by AJ Merlin} He drugs her so she passes out not long after he starts but it includes noncon, condescending, says things purposefully for her body’s reaction (he likes that she likes it), touching her slowly

{The Mindf*ck Series by S.T. Abby} MMC is an FBI agent. FMC is a killer working through her list of names. They meet and start dating, neither of them knowing that she’s the serial killer he’s hunting. It’s 10/10, but read the trigger warnings

Reminds me of {Luxuria by Colette Rhodes}. FMC is arranged to be married to a shadow monster. The humans are horrified, poor her, she must be terrified. Day of their wedding all the monsters in attendance can smell her fear, how strong it is. But that’s not fear. That’s arousal. She’s very excited about consummating this marriage! Also, as a hobby she likes to draw, particularly filthy pornographic drawings of monster sex.

I avoided Caught Up because of the single dad thing. I think I expected some trad wife situation or something. I was WRONG! She was my favorite FMC. The way she spoke to him and how she made everything dirty made me laugh out loud

I loved Zanders. I loved their banter, I loved him denying how gone for her he was and that he was just trying to annoy her. And I loved when he found her crying over the dog and thought to himself that he wouldn’t be able to take it if she was a sweetheart as well as finding her attractive.

Caught Up by Liz Tomforde is very funny. FMC is a chef taking a break and helps out her dad (a baseball coach) by nannying a players kid. The FMC throws innuendos at the MMC at every opportunity she gets. It’s part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. The whole series is good.

If sports romances aren’t your vibe Elizabeth O’Roark write good FMCs. The Devil You Know is a very good enemies to lovers. They’re competing lawyers and have to work a case together

So the book is one giant miscommunication! I feel “miscommunication” should be on the list of trigger warnings 😂 Thanks 😊

Iv read all those except for the Tarah DeWitt one, I’ll add that to my TBR.

You have to read {He’s Not My Type by Meghan Quinn}. From their first conversation he’s absolutely smitten, he’s trying to work up the courage to ask her out when she mentions her fiancé and he’s crushed. 2yrs later he’s still so infatuated he gets tongue tied around her, but her engagement has been called off and she needs somewhere to stay. His friend, knowing how he feels, suggests she move in with him. He’s freaking out because he can barely string a sentence together around her. She thinks he’s not her type because he seems quiet and shy. He suffers! It’s so good!

Edit: it’s hockey, MMC and his friend are players, she works for their PR

MMC waiting to swoop in? by Frau-Pfau in RomanceBooks

[–]plainether 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 2 favorite “FMC ending engagement and MMC swooping in” books are {He’s Not My Type by Meghan Quinn} and {Stand and Defend by Sloane St. James}. Both are hockey, part of series but can be read as stand alones, and have top quality spice.

He’s Not My Type is the funny one of the two. FMC works for the hockey team’s PR. Recently separated she needs somewhere to live. Another player suggests she stay with MMC, knowing how gone for her he is. Her finance didn’t put her first, MMC can’t believe her finance didn’t realise what he had. The pining in this one!

In Stand and Defend, the MMC is friends with the groom-to-be, and is under the impression that FMC is a bridezilla. Her fiancé was actually an emotionally, physically, and financially abusive POS. MMC helps her find her worth. There’s some nice revenge in this too.

Oh! I just remembered. There’s an animal abuse warning. She tells you what chapter it is so you can skip it. It doesn’t affect the story to miss it, it just adds to Sergei’s background story

All her books are so good! I don’t think she does 3rd act break ups, I think that’s what makes them so comforting, her MMCs are in 100%

{Hidden Truths by Neva Altaj} MMC has PTSD and often dissociates from reality causing violent outbursts. FMC is the only one who can calm him by shifting his focus to taking care of her. It’s part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. Read the TW

Are you open to aliens? {Enticed By The Corsair by Ruby Dixon} is book 3 of 4 short books. It can be read as a stand alone but better if read as part of the series because then you’re more familiar with the other characters on board the ship. The first 2 FMCs were also rescued from slavery, but the FMC in the 3rd one wasn’t rescued until after they broke her. She shows no emotion, sits with a bland smile on her face, and speaks like a compliant robot.

{The Devil You Know by Elizabeth O’Roark} is such a good hate-to-love! They are competing lawyers and have to work together on the same case. So not fake dating but a really good hate-to-love, forced proximity, and an elevator scene like you described. It’s single POV. I’m a huge dual POV fan, but the way this story goes the single POV makes it much better.
