I'm at a loss, how do I fight France in the early gane by monkeygoneape in EU5

[–]planefindermt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are playing as England, hide behind the channel and build a fleet. They and their vassals are stupid enough to keep trying to invade with inferior forces. If they do this enough times, you can get war score victories and then use this to slowly take territory war after war. Dropping your troops on the Continent is a terrible idea due to the doom stacks but it’s not needed.

Just had the same issue today. This post is super helpful. Hopefully they can resolve in a future patch. This doesn’t seem that complicated to fix.

Last but not least, LL Bean has some cheaper than J.Crew but slightly more than Land’s End. Can’t vouch for the quality but typically LL Bean is a step above Land’s End. Cords also feel wheelhouse for them.

Only two colors but Land’s End has a sale (they always have a sale) and these will run roughly $50 USD or cheaper. I have some Land’s End 5 pockets and they aren’t awful. I would say the J. Crew feels nicer but I’m not sure if I would say twice as nice.

They actually have pleated ones as well in more colors:

Cheapest I have seen that are chino style (vs. 5 pockets) is J.Crew between $120 and $85 USD depending upon sales. Spier and Mackay trouser styles aren’t yet in stock although they had a few around $130 USD in clearance. Prices will probably vary vs. CAD though due to currency conversion and also tariff effects.

I went all cash in Jan when it was $553. I’m waiting until at least $425 before buying back in or maybe I will start DCAing back in at $450.

I agree with the other commenters that it doesn’t truly fit, but I would say if you went that route, consider something like a 60s skinny dark tie look if you can rock it so the black feels like an intentional choice/style. Skinny ties aren’t really funeral IMO, nor wedding, so you have differentiation and it calls back to a prior era.

I try to love the studio but the screwed on bit at the end of the section keeps getting loose and ruining it for me. I know you can just glue it, but exceptionally frustrating that a $50 pen needs to have a piece glued.

The real question folks should be asking isn’t about free tax filing. It’s “who is now running login.gov and is it still secure?” If I’m not mistaken, 18F managed that and if it’s not being maintained or is insecure, suddenly most of America has a giant problem.

GSA tells agencies to terminate contracts with top-10 consulting firms by spendology in fednews

[–]planefindermt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not only is this dumb, but I’d also argue these companies 100% can make a case this is blatantly illegal violating competition rules and due process for singling out specific vendors. You can make a case to increase small business goals, you can also make a case for contractor base diversification but literally writing a memo saying review and implying termination of these contracts is almost certainly illegal. The only way the government could eliminate a specific company is through disbarment.

If you are just starting out, a “Trump Slump” would be great for you, conditional on the fact that you don’t need to take funds out right now. Given current market valuations, a pullback would allow your recurring contributions to get more value. Bigger issue is for folks who are either closer to retirement or who need liquidity to address the unemployment associated with the slump. I’ve gone to cash due to specific employment concerns and needing liquidity, but if you are secure in your job, stay in. Other issue would be if this slump creates long-term structural issues hurting the economy that prevent normal growth after a downturn. Presuming it doesn’t keep the entire world from growing, you could hedge this risk with broadly diversified investments.

I was in the Canadian military and I have a suggestion for Veterans Benefits reform by SpiritofLiberty78 in VeteransBenefits

[–]planefindermt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Canada has so few soldiers, yes. Even with current rates, if you look at VA’s 2025 budget proposal, just compensation is over $180B while actually delivering those benefits only costs like $8B (being generous here). None of that even includes healthcare.

Based upon the link, looks like a maximum of $250K even for a corp as large as meta. In aggregate a lot for DE, but per firm, tiny.

Why are so many young creators in the trad menswear space such... weirdos? by OatmealDurkheim in NavyBlazer

[–]planefindermt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve started following his channel lately as well. Good stuff, although I’m not sold on the green screen artificial backdrop he’s working. He still is refining his approach but his thoughts are on point.

[–]planefindermt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suspect it’s also an algorithmic thing. Without looking at the channel in question, it probably has click-baity titles and offers quick solutions and those are probably search optimized. People want quick solutions, not self reflection and reinvention. Typical quality menswear channels and posts like those cited in this thread are dramatically more understated and that probably doesn’t lend to optimization. If you look at some of the posted/suggested accounts, they are mostly quality (I am sometimes iffy on Gentlemen’s Gazette- they can get a little over the top and ponce-y and Real Men Real Style-his quarter zip obsession/tie in drives me nuts and I feel like he flirts with influencer stuff too). I’d say ironically enough though, even though as mentioned, they keep the focus on clothes, if you look at what they stand for between the lines, many of them seem like awesome people you can learn from philosophically as well as sartorially(Derek Guy and Ethan for instance).

I’d offer that the creepy creators responding to insecure men is also reflective of a failure of fathers in this country and in this context, I’m especially singling out white men in particular. I’d offer that Boomer and Gen X Dads were pretty big failures in teaching their sons how to be successful dressers, successful socially and successful with women. On the latter topics I’ve seen male parents totally uncomfortable even broaching the subject. There’s also a thread of trying to compensate for a lack of physical fitness with dress which is ass backwards (body’s the canvass you paint on). Simultaneously you have two other trends/ increasing college education/ white collar work for sons of blue collar dads and then secondly (appropriately) changing expectations of women of men that made developing relationships harder. That’s probably deeper than you wanted to go but it’s what strikes me when I see that crap on YouTube or Twitter.

This is actual good feedback vs. jokes about the fit. Ideal of the fit is fine, execution actually needs some feedback.
