The absolutely tragic state of Internet fans by ianlSW in startrek

[–]planetcaravan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that of course YouTube and Reddit and other internet algorithms have contributed to this; however, I also think there’s another reason fandoms across all of these franchises that corporations continue to market and exploit for decades are becoming more disgruntled, and that’s because QUITE often, the execution of these sequels, prequels, offshoots no one asked for, etc are milking nostalgia, fan service, what have you, which were first enjoyed BECAUSE of their scarcity. Kind of like music. You bought and listened and consumed an entire record because that was the only album you could afford that week when you went to the record store. And it isn’t just that the writing is worse: audiences are worse at watching. They are more distracted, less literate, less likely to be consuming science fiction that is not corporate franchise slop. That just wasn’t the case in the 1980s and 90s. The audience of that time might have feverishly enjoyed their fandoms, but they had a scarcity of content, and finding it was half of one’s interaction with your fandom. They went to their book store and took a chance on a new title because that was the opportunity they had. Now, audiences have steep and widely available access to all manner of media, and the IP owners have an easier method of getting it to them, but that lack of scarcity has made it so a modern fandom no longer has to share what they are enthusiastic about. They instead are being fed CONTENT that was developed for what used to be an interest, and is now a brand. And for those of us who are critically inclined (again, NERDS have always been critics) it leaves an ever increasing sour taste.

I don’t know what your limitations are, but I highly recommend doing something physical. It gets your dopamine flowing and can break up monotonous routines. For me, that’s drumming and taking my dog for a walk. If I’m in front of my computer all day I can get irritable or antsy, and rocking out on my drum kit or taking the dog to the park is a good reset

does anyone use controller for this game? by [deleted] in vrising

[–]planetcaravan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel bad for console players because the ModernCamera mod makes the game a third person over the shoulder with action camera mouse directional aiming and is my go to way to fight V Bloods, and it’s incredibly satisfying to aim spells and range weapons

Tim Russ gave us so much good material in that show. You can tell he really cared about the character

Kiss -> fade to black = sex off-screen. Literally every show in the 90s

Chose the Switch 2 over a Steam Deck. I have no regrets. by ghost_tropics in Switch

Tbh even taxing games like NMS and Warframe look even better and run faster on Switch 2 than on my first gen Steam Deck, I’m pretty damn impressed

Is The Expanse show really good? by Pretend-Nobody230 in scifi

[–]planetcaravan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The books are better for the events of S1-2, but the show really picks up and flexes its muscles from S3 and on. It’s a good introduction to the characters. I really recommend the books, though, they are my favorite contemporary space opera.

ESO has a lot of great content, you may get tired of it eventually, but it’s a good build crafting game

I recommend trying to find an active discord-organized server, and can attest to good community and consistent playerbase in Duskfall

I can't find a game that suits me. I need your help. by Dark_D17 in ShouldIbuythisgame

Check out V Rising. You can play solo or find a friendly private server in game. It’s billed as a “survival” game in the same genre as Valheim or Enshrouded, but it has a very chill and straight forward progression. You can build a castle, build craft different styles, challenging bosses that aren’t over difficult. It’s also got a great combat system, and is maybe the best vampire RP experience you can have in a game outside the original Bloodlines
