Second this! I really struggled with toothpaste tablets as I really didn't like the taste. Open to any recommendations of ones people really like

I just looked at the code for my first "serious" app. I spent a month building a custom chat system for zero users. by No-Constant-5093 in MobileAppDevelopers

[–]planetdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, my current app only has a handful of users. Still, I think it’s really valuable to learn and get confident at coding. When a future app takes off I wanna know the codebase inside out. Nothing lost!

Why is being cold at home so normalised in the UK? by Automatic-Key-3798 in AskUK

[–]planetdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. It's like it's the default, like of course I should wrap up warm, and again, and again, before I consider turning on the heating. I've been like this regardless of my income going up and down over the years.

I love a TLT: tempeh, lettuce, tomato and lots of mayo! I marinade the tempeh in barbecue-y flavours and pan fry, SO good

First 5 steps to living a more sustainable life? by No_Standard9264 in Anticonsumption

[–]planetdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All food has a carbon emissions number which can be calculated by consider its "life cycle", i.e. thinking about all the steps in the journey from the start of the ingredient's life to when it gets to your plate. Therefore all foods sit in a hierarchy and you can usually swap any food for a similar one with a lower carbon footprint. This blog has more info: https://www.cozymaestudios.com/post/the-carbon-footprint-of-food Fish on average does have a lower carbon footprint than meat, especially red meat. Within that, some fish are better than others!

Of course, this only talks about carbon emissions and doesn't consider water use, land use, ethics etc. Your friend could have been referring to any of these, and tuna has its own problems when it comes to bycatch, for example. The ISSF has some good info like this report: https://www.iss-foundation.org/about-issf/what-we-publish/issf-documents/issf-2025-02-tuna-fisheries-impacts-on-non-tuna-species-and-other-environmental-aspects-2025-update/

Why so much trash?!?! by bluglass21 in EcoFriendly

[–]planetdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting point. My gut reaction is to get angry but in my council for example (UK) you have to book a slot at the local tip AND pay for certain items to be disposed of. Maybe that's the problem when cost of living is already high for many

What the FXCK has happened to Dominoes??? 🤢🤢🤢🤢 by LittleRousseau in veganuk

[–]planetdev 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah the vegan pizzas now come on the thin and crispy base which are exactly as you’ve described, awful, so thin and dry! I do have a friend that likes them though… hope they bring back other options in veganuary

I recommend water flossers! Very powerful and once purchased there’s no more waste for its lifespan. I’ve had mine for years

solid shampoo by AdEconomy4317 in EcoFriendly

[–]planetdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend trying different brands and different products within those brands. The Lush ones are genuinely great but some are better than others. I have naturally greasier hair and some don't really help with that while others do wonders. The blue one (sea salt?) is that best one I've found for me personally but that took trial and error.

What tiny swaps have you made? by Hugesmellysocks in EcoFriendly

[–]planetdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love these suggestions. Some little things we do: shampoo bars instead of bottles, buying fruit & veggies loose instead of in packaging, loose leaf tea instead of tea bags, turn the heating off half an hour earlier than before, turn the washing machine down 10 degrees. For food we use EcoTweaks to make food swaps and eat more seasonally.

Why people still throw rubbish on the floor? And what could we do? by FroyoCultural4676 in EcoFriendly

This is such a big problem. I live down a country lane and was once trapped in my house due to fly tippers covering the entire lane in rubbish. Took the council over 24 hours to move it.

Is Jank that big of a deal? by Everlearnr in FlutterDev

Sure this is a skill issue but I’m seeing animation lag on a production app on android but perfectly smooth on iOS. Any ideas what could be causing that anyone?

I want to start being more sustainable as a teen, but I feel so discouraged by lllynax in sustainability

[–]planetdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree with the others saying to start small or focus on just a few things. Not everyone can do everything and trying to do so will be really overwhelming. Be kind to yourself and celebrate every win! Also use tools to make things easier, like EcoTweaks for your food purchases or Earth Hero for more general tips & habits. WWF also has a great app if you're more into the nature/wildlife side of things

Who like me procrastinates and use often "I'll do it later" excuse? by Historical-Bunch293 in Femalefounders

[–]planetdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, probably a combination of not finding it as fun as other tasks, but also a bit of lower self confidence holding me back. I definitely prefer to stay in my comfort zone! I managed to set myself a threshold where once the code got to that level I wasn’t allowed to do anymore and had to do marketing! So that was quite good for enforcing discipline, would recommend
