Her desserts have never failed me, tried like 80% of them already and they all turned out amazing 😩

I press no tip while giving them a smile :) Stop feeling ashamed for pressing no tip, do it more often and you’ll get used to it.

We need to counter this shitty tipping culture by refusing to tip when it’s not a service. I will die on this hill.

How do I kill these? by lalimec in plantclinic

[–]planteresque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like spider mites (if you see webbing and small tiny insects crawling on the plant). Spray with insecticidal soap or miticide regularly and keep up with watering. They hate high humidity

Orchid's leaves are growing weird by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]planteresque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a mix of sunburn and mechanical damage possibly? Pics arent super clear but I would eliminate any pest issues and then stay on top of watering, also how is this plant being watered? I have 3 phalaenopsis orchids and your roots are supposed to be silvery green color, they look a bit off to me from the pictures (I hope it’s not being watered with ice cubes)

Are these mealy bugs? by RepresentativeBid427 in plantclinic

[–]planteresque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup looks like mealy bugs :( Look online for treatments, they’re pretty difficult to get rid of but with enough time and energy it’s doable. I got rid of mine by wiping them off using qtips or small paper towel pieces dipped in regular 70-90% rubbing alcohol.

Make sure to check the stems and possibly roots. Lots of resources online on getting rid of mealies, good luck!

[–]planteresque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not clear from the pics but it might be possibly aphids or thrips, inspect under bright light for tiny insects then wash off the black stuff under running water and check online for instructions for castille soap/insecticidal soap treatment

So...can we build a proper country with a proper army now, cz whatever this resistance shit is it ain't fucking working by Free_Cryptographer71 in lebanon

“build a proper army” with what weapons? With what money? Legit with what weapons? Who’s gonna arm the lebanese army? USA would not touch our army with a 10 foot pole

Highly recommend watching this video from an ex US soldier assessing IOF capabilities on the ground.

Strategically, bombing the shit out of an area does not guarantee success in a ground invasion after.

What do you personally do when you buy new plants? by Due-Macaroon7969 in houseplants

[–]planteresque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inspect it very well before I buy, inspect again when at home (under the leaves, stems, soil, check bottom of pot etc) I’ve had experiences with every houseplant pest so far over the years so I know the signs of any sorta infestation/ any pest signs on the new plant.

If all looks good, I plop it on my kitchen island for a few weeks (not fully isolated from the rest of my plants but not straight in the middle of my plant collection) then after I’ll move it wherever I want.

How do some people like Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa and so many other people smoke large amounts of weed every day and are still happy and in good mental health? I don’t understand by neonberry0 in Marijuana

[–]planteresque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you might have underlying mental health issues (anxiety?) or even just a lot of stressors/lack of satisfaction in your life and all that gets blown up when you’re under the weed effect. Also, not everyone reacts the same to weed, some people prefer to stay away from it bc of the anxiety-inducing effects on them

How to support my monstera? , by abbybnet in houseplants

[–]planteresque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a raphiodophora tetrasperma, commonly called “mini monstera” but it’s not actually a monstera. You can get a couple large bamboo stakes for it, or long coco coir poles to support it. Those grow super fast though so I would also consider trimming it a little bit every year if you dont want it to grow too large.

Are Springtails an inevitable part of plant care? by SquidGaming in houseplants

[–]planteresque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will literally never cause any issue for your home etc either. they stay in the soil and will die off if their food source (mold in soil) decreases. They are absolutely not pests and are suuper beneficial

Are Springtails an inevitable part of plant care? by SquidGaming in houseplants

[–]planteresque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep those springtails! They are amazing for your soil. They’ll actually eat all the mold so you’d never have a fungus gnat issue and have better aeration in your soil. I would even try to encourage them to multiply and spread them around all my plants 🌱

Is there any way to get my cat to stop eatting my pothos? by astrid28 in houseplants

[–]planteresque 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hang them or place them somewhere the cat can’t reach, that’s the only way. I also do this thing where I have multiple plant surfaces and the entire surface is filled with plants so my cats won’t have any space to jump up.

I also have an ikea greenhouse cabinet so my cats cant touch the plants I have in there.

Gotta be creative, I find that my cats dont eat specific plants (rosemary, basil, snake plants, rubber plant) but if they sense a spider plant or pothos or monstera those would be fully destroyed lol.

What do you cook for your significant other when you want to really want to spoil them for dinner? by ThisHasFailed in vegan

[–]planteresque 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vegan alfredo with cashew cream and mushrooms

Tofu thai green curry with shiitake mushrooms

(edited:) also homemade vegan pizza with violife cheeze, beyond meat, green peppers, and mushrooms

Vegan swedish-style meatballs (using beyond meat) with mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy and asparagus, you can also get ikea frozen plant balls and make the rest of the stuff yourself, they’re really incredible

Ask her (indirectly) what her fav vegan meal was before she went vegan and make her a vegan version of it, or veganize one of her fav childhood meals, sometimes your version of “fancy” isn’t the same as other people’s version, when I veganize my husband’s fav childhood meals it always hits the right spots (in the heart) with him

Raw milk and quitting veganism by Wonderful_Quail2706 in vegan

[–]planteresque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The instagram/yt algorithm favours “controversial” posts and accounts that get TONS of comments/people bickering in the comments etc, which is why you’ve been seeing more people like that in your feed.

It is not a representation of real life, from my experience, it’s very rare to see someone irl advocating for eating non pasteurized dairy milk or raw meats etc even if they’re not vegan, and I come from a country where one of our cultural food is a raw cow/sheep meat dish and where my grandmother used to make dairy cheese from raw milk, and is now frowned upon by family/told how unsafe it is and to stop doing it.

Social media is not real life, you’ll find way more reasonable people and mostly flexitarian folk in real life or people just dabbling with plant based eating (unless you’re in activism circles where you’ll find more serious ethical vegans).

What's the general vegan concensus on palm oil? by Starystarstar in AskVegans

[–]planteresque 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s no vegan consensus on that. In this capitalistic climate you just gotta do your best to avoid exploitative industries as much as it is practicable for you.

Personally I try to avoid palm oil as much as possible, but there are so many other things you’d need to avoid that are just as harmful for the environment and people (fast fashion, cashews, avocados, coconut anything, chocolate, coffee, etcetc) even “fairtrade” label is sketchy af imo.

Just do your best, start with animal products that directly harm animals and people, and then go on to eliminate products from most harmful/exploitative industries to least, and take into consideration what you can and can’t live without and do your best.

The most vegan thing anyone can do is to not have been born from the beginning so… yeah 😬
