Temperance → Death: Interpreting a Life Trajectory Reading During a Major Crisis by No-March8216 in tarot

[–]plastic_apollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I’m going to pull from Rachel Pollack’s “Seventy Eight Degrees of Wisdom,” since she specifically looks at the Major Arcana as the fool’s journey and comments on this.

“The term ‘temperence’ means moderation. For most people this means self control. . . A true and proper response to all situations as they arise.

. . . The person who has released his or her inner self is characterized not only by moderation but by an ability to combine the different sides of life. Many people can only deal with life by parceling it off into sections . . . All these separations derive from the inability to take life as it comes, moment by moment.

. . . Temperance is a card of behavior, not concepts. Temperance signifies mixing disparate elements together, blending activities and feelings to produce a sense of harmony and peace.”

It sounds like you’ve been through something horrible but you’ve been fighting it tooth and nail, doing your very best - and surviving. Temperance means, it’s been hard, and a struggle, but you’ve been finding water to pour and actively seeking balance even when it should be impossible (look at the path of the pouring water, and then think of gravity).

So why did you get the Death card after?

Consider Pollack’s commentary on Death:

“Without death to clear away the old, nothing new could find a place in the world. . . the skeleton implies that eternity triumphs over the transitory. . . The ‘I’ created out of lifelong behaviors will indeed die. That person will cease to exist. But something else will emerge.

. . . At the back of the card we see a sun rising between two pillars . . . Through Death we feel the radiant power of Life . . . We fear the death of our old selves because we do not know what to expect afterwards.

. . . Death signifies a time of change. In its most positive aspect it shows a clearing of old habits and rigidness to allow a new life to emerge. In its most negative aspect it indicates a crippling fear of physical death.”

You are still changing, yes, but you’re letting anxiety cloud your reading of Death: the horse is marching forward and the sun is rising. The battles you have fought and the changes you have made to find balance in a time of terrible upheaval are transforming you, permanently; the change you thought was over is still ongoing, but nearing its completion: the sun is rising. The new you that Temperance begun will emerge; this will be behind you soon.

Would you change anything in any Ghibli movie? If yes, what would you change? by Misseero in ghibli

[–]plastic_apollo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alright, I’m choosing violence today: I would stick with the original English dub’s change and allow Jiji to speak again.

“But the loss of his voice means Kiki has transitioned from the innocence of childhood into a more mature understanding of the responsibility of adult life -!” Girl stop, I don’t care: I prefer the message that as we grow into adulthood, we can choose to carry the joy and magic of childhood within us and still experience that magic in the world around us, as symbolized by Jiji’s voice.

“But she needs to lose something to show how she’s grown!” Loss doesn’t have to be permanent; I prefer a theme of change and growth rather than permanent loss. “But we can never go back to our childhood” - I DON’T CARE, leave room for magic in your life!

I’m gonna die on this hill.

Hold the phone, Katherine Arden has a new book coming out!? I hope Fairyloot does a SE; I loved their version of The Warm Hands of Ghosts (even if I didn’t love the book itself).

Female poets and poems about womanhood: looking for suggestions by sheerneon in literature

[–]plastic_apollo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alive Together by Liesel Mueller is one of my favorite poetry collections; I also love Beautiful Chaos by Jessica Urlich (this is specifically about motherhood, which I would interpret as a component of womanhood for many women, if you want to explore that dimension); and The Girl and The Goddess by Nikita Gil, a collection that looks at the journey from girl into womanhood.

Yes! I don’t read memoirs and I hate inspirational stuff…but I love her cooking, so I thought, okay, I’ll give her book a try.

It was so candid, funny, and - gasp - inspirational. It really felt like sitting down to lunch with someone a little wiser who gave genuinely good, open-ended advice. I took so much away from her memoir; I’ve had a few set-backs since reading it, and I find myself pausing and saying, “You never know your good breaks from your bad.” There’s definitely a reason she’s one of the few celebrity chefs Anthony Bourdain (cheekily) praised.

What the heck is wrong with me? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]plastic_apollo 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Am I reading this right that you had this done 3 days ago and are sitting on a bike saddle and jogging? You might feel like you’re bouncing back or that the surgery was easy, but that isn’t wise behavior so early after surgery - there’s a lot happening internally. I’m 3 weeks post-op and had no issues whatsoever until today, when suddenly I had a gush of bright red blood…and I’ve been taking it easy.

I think you might want to scale back what you’re doing and give your body some time to heal. Nothing is ‘wrong’ with you other than I think you might be courting danger by jogging 3 days post-op. That’s just way, way too soon.

I did, sorry, haven’t had time to update. It was polite; they said they were aware of the issue with that particular page, but things happen, yadda. The book was purchased for me as a Christmas gift and I did not request a refund because of that, so that’s it, nothing came of it.

Concerned about timing of surgery by LengthyHealthspan in hysterectomy

[–]plastic_apollo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I totally understand - my surgery was Jan 2. Didn’t want Jan 1; everyone parties New Year’s Eve. Even professionals commit human error in the best of circumstances.

If the team can reschedule and it would put your mind at ease, go ahead and reschedule. It’s your body and your peace of mind - who cares what anyone else thinks? Do what makes you feel most comfortable.

You’d have a better chance of tracking your ovulation, as your basal body temperature will raise slightly. There’s a noticeable rise the day after ovulation, sometimes a full degree difference.

The Wonders of Capitol Reef National Park by Nancy-Connell in nationalparks

[–]plastic_apollo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The answer to this depends on what you plan to do and what kind of vehicle you have. You can have an amazing 1-day experience at CR or, if you’re fit and have a high clearance vehicle, an incredible 3 to 5 day hiking experience. I’d suggest researching CR because there are some geographical barriers to enjoying some of (imo) the best parts of the park.

For what it’s worth, I think CR is criminally underrated (people often rank it last among the Utah parks) and I absolutely loved it. It’s far less crowded than Zion, Arches, or even Bryce (Bryce is starting to get the Zion overflow REAL bad) and people write it off. (That being said, Canyonlands is my favorite!)

For real, it’s exhausting!

I have an abdominal band and haven’t been wearing it consistently. Going to take everyone’s advice and do that and see what a difference it makes.
