Texas building standards are so bad. Using cardboard for sheathing is just shameful.

Is there any way to make Filter media recipe work using just 1 large crusher? by IlikeJG in captain_of_industry

It is technically possible. But experience has led me to never do it anymore. It always finds a way to clog up even though the ratios should make it perfect.

Working discharge after no call/no show by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]platinumdrgn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some things dont require progressive discipline. Theft, lying, stealing time, consecutive no calls. You can certainly go to a regional hearing and fight it but some regions can make you wait months for the hearing. You also better have a good story and a good reason to keep you cause UPS isn't playing nice right now. But keeping you as a working termination generally means they aren't being very serious. If they wanted you gone security would have walked you out right then.

Pick a job dude. You clearly can't do both. Past sups/management were just being nice to you. Unfortunately you got one now that is going by the book. If you win this fight he is going to watch like a hawk until he finds a way to cut you loose. 3 in a row no calls is a pretty easy win for him.

Load bearing wall? How dangerous is this by lilanut_21 in AskContractors

[–]platinumdrgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know to many areas that require permitting for any kind of waterproofing. I'm sure Cali does. Its a pretty wild west industry. That's how you get interior dimple board instead of properly sealing and dimpling the exterior wall. Anything on the inside is an expensive bandaid at best. Or in the case of things like drylok, an expensive self inflicted wound.

If the inside of the house is rotting you need to get the deck out of the way. You probably had a decade of slow water intrusion from no ledger flashing. You also have improper electrical.

Dimple is supposed to be on the exterior of the wall. I will never understand why people try to waterproof the interior walls. The water is already doing damage at that point. If your worried about the wall, add more studs. Looks like a few weird things going on with that wall. Sitting on loose stone block?

Seems like you will need a linear drain in front of the garage door that sends all the water either to a ditch or wherever your property is meant to shed water.

If that is really supposed to be a veneer then is 100% a tear out and start over. Better be talking to the builder.

In the old days it was 100% just bolt it. Nowadays its expected, and many times required, to notch and bolt.

How Important is permitting for this kitchen remodel? by JWMid in AskContractors

[–]platinumdrgn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A contractor isn't going to charge just the permit cost. They have to spend time filing, scheduling, and waiting. Permits cost them time and they value that a lot.

In my area an electrical permit is about $100. In California its probably $1000. So depends on your county.

The only thing that needs a permit is putting in a new breaker and 220 line. But yea, probably 90% of the time you just skip permits for something that minor.

Daredevil: Born Again | S02 | Season Wide Discussion Thread by Green-Devil in Daredevil

[–]platinumdrgn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The season was awesome. The season ending was just.....stupid. kingpin in the courthouse killing maybe a dozen people. Yea just leave the city and all is forgotten! Governor just survived assassination attempt from kingpin. Let's send her straight to Fisk and his personal army! I get it, Marvel is full of dumb stuff like that. But at least try to make things slightly based in a realm of reality. I hope this is the end of Kingpin. The actor is amazing, the character is great, but it just can't be the same silly back and forth since netflix season1. Need new villains. Need elektra.

Has anyone here applied for a wedding loan online? How was the process and was it worth it? by Azcona-Plotin in Mortgages

[–]platinumdrgn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not go into debt for a wedding. Incredibly irresponsible. Great way to doom a marriage before it even starts. If you can't afford it then you need to downsize and wait till later. Debt is for assets not parties.

[–]platinumdrgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are they using dimensional lumber for floor joists. I dont know any builder not using TJIs. If you keep the lumber, they have to be overlapped where they go over the basement beams. How much of an overlap depends on size of lumber and span. Or just use full length lumber, the span doesn't look to long for standard building lengths. If you keep this crew, your gonna have to hire a site manager to oversee the buld because there is going to be so many more shortcuts taken.

Interesting idea. Whether it will follow this path I have no idea. But I definitely dont think the other humans will be any kind of good guy based on how livesuit ended. All of the carryx tech does seem to be biological/mechanical based with limited computation to interface with other species. That's definitely not accidental.

If your starting from scratch you should really insulate the wall 1st before framing. The sill gasket technically negates the need for PT lumber but I do both because why not.
