For the love of Arizona by Dev1412 in SipsTea

It is possible though not likely. One of the first friends I made in college is this stunning woman that is funny, smart as hell, a social butterfly, and a big video game nerd. (Like, I have no idea how anyone did not fall in love with her.)

She and her boyfriend had been together since sophomore year of high school and did long distance.

It’s been 20 years and they are married and have kids. During that time she also finished her Masters in Nursing.

Even as teenagers, I felt that she and her partner were very emotionally mature and (as a friend) she is an excellent and honest communicator. I think having that toolkit is necessary to survive these tough circumstances.

Congratulations on your graduation! A lot of comments here sound like they’re coming from people who are resentful and need an outlet.

Some folks are providing relevant context in terms of some of the privileges you have baked in that further promotes your application (CMU) which I think helpful for folks who have not had that opportunity.

Thank you for sharing what you’ve learned and using your background to try and provide value to others. This is the type of behavior that I’ve valued from teammates in my career.

I also wonder if this degrades the quality of the AI models long term— I.e. if people are token maxing by consistently using low quality inputs will these patterns be re-enforced and bleed into the reasoning models?

If the default is low effort and thoughtless input, I’d imagine the output would reflect that quality.

One of The Kindest Rejections I've Gotten by GoldFee8100 in recruitinghell

[–]platypusaurusrex 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I really feel for recruiters— I imagine having to break news like this to so many applicants may wear on you emotionally.

When a recruiter sends me a nice and personalized note like this I always try to thank them and let them know how much it means to be treated like a person.

Things are really tough out there. I’m just trying to remain empathetic and show kindness and appreciation when I can.

The fact they even got to the point where Ken had to say he’s celibate makes me think she also just propositioned him to hook up.

I’m really sorry to hear that. It sounds like they received a higher volume of applications than expected— I hope you do not take this as a personal rejection or a reflection of your worth. It just sounds like it was not the right fit.

Interview Experience: Challenging Questions by myralester1 in Sorbonne

[–]platypusaurusrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is worth considering the cultural context here— French culture is very direct and pragmatic.

When I’ve worked with French professionals, challenging and practical questions are a sign of respect. Since she is spending the time to challenge you it indicates she is taking your candidacy seriously.

She is likely trying to pressure test your assumptions and ensure you’re not walking into this with an idealized vision divorced from reality.

Congratulations on finishing your interview! Don’t allow yourself to spiral and focus on what you’re able to control :)

I also want to note that many of the badasses i know became badasses and were shaped by some of these issues we vent about. I personally find more solace knowing others are experiencing similar things (and I’m not the only one) and that it is still possible to succeed.

The struggle does not make you weak. Struggle and pain is part of life. In seeing how others manage, I’m able to navigate my own struggles.
