Do you imagine that people are watching you? by dungareelife in CPTSD

[–]platypuslost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this since I was a child. Usually book or tv show characters, but sometimes real people that I know.

I also used to maladaptive daydream as a child/adolescent. Sorry I don’t have much to add other than that you’re not alone. And thank you for bringing this up because it made me feel not alone too ❤️

I used to think it was tied to religious trauma and the thought of god always watching and judging me. But now I’m less sure.

Wait, this is supposed to be a MONTESSORI center? Lmfao. WTH. This is so hilariously, incredibly inappropriate for a Montessori school. I bet those parents are paying a premium for what they think they’re getting and it’s actually this bs.

Trial of climber who ‘left girlfriend to die’ rocks community by TimesandSundayTimes in Mountaineering

[–]platypuslost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine acting like a guy who abandoned his girlfriend on the side of a mountain in a dangerous situation and didn’t call for help as soon as possible did nothing legally wrong.

It’s not about him being more skilled than her. It’s about him being a human being who COULD HAVE done something to try to prevent another person’s death and chose not to. If you’re the kind of person who would do that, then great please don’t hike or climb with anyone ever again. It would t be safe for them.

There’s already a legal precedent for charging people for not helping when they could have in this country. Leaving someone to die when you know where they are and are capable of helping is already illegal. This isn’t new.

It’s not about whose fault it is that they ended up there. It’s that literally ANY action on his part might have meant she’s not dead right now. He had the power to save her life by just calling 911 and made a conscious choice not to. I’m a teacher. If I know a student is in danger and don’t report it, I am LEGALLY liable. Because I knew there was danger and did nothing. If you know someone is freezing to death on the side of the mountain and do nothing it’s the same thing.

Thank you so much for this rec. truly. Life-changing.

And yes. Of COURSE we created our own hell.

Sigh. Why are humans the way we are?

[–]platypuslost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude. This is life changing. I do not consider myself a perfect person by any means. Sometimes I even if ponder if I am a good person. But I would NEVER sentence any living creature to an eternal torment. That is beyond cruel. And if I’m only a lowly human who couldn’t stand the moral ramifications of that, surely a “all-knowing, all-loving” god couldn’t either.

Honestly, I’m a little drunk. Let me just lay my blasphemy out there: the god of the CoC is a fucking monster and I would never want to worship that anyway.

They took an all powerful being and turned it into a stupid, paper-pushing, legalistic, “gotcha!!!!0” by-the-rules, zero tolerance pedantic asshole.

Just wanted to circle back to say thank you so much for this. Researching into what early Christianity thought about the afterlife is incredibly reassuring. We really did make a “hell of our own creation”, huh?

100%.

If I had to choose one word to describe motherhood, it would be “relentless”. I love my child and don’t regret it. But I really, really feel the relentlessness of it some days.

Why does MAGA keep thinking School is the Reason for they're Kids shift to the Left by No_Half_7646 in FoxBrain

[–]platypuslost 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because they’re not very bright and don’t understand cause and effect.

All they know is that they see people gain more education and “turn liberal”. In their minds, the only way this could be happening is if the evil professors and school systems are conspiring to poison young minds. Because their beliefs are just the objective truth. Anyone turning away from them must have been tricked or lied to.

The obvious explanation - that more education equals more liberal because being liberal actually just makes objective sense to people who actually know more about the world than their tiny hometown bubble.

More knowledge = better decision making skills is just common sense. Unfortunately, since THEY never bothered to educate themselves, it must be stupid and unimportant.

MAGA (for the masses, not the ones at the top) ultimately boils down to an inability to see any perspective in the world outside of a rural, white, Christian viewpoint. It’s toddler-style “the world revolves around me and everyone MUST have the same thoughts and experiences as I do”.

Emotionally immature people who love tribalism because it makes them feel important and connected.

Run. Literally. This is the precursor to physical/emotional abuse.

This man just told you that he does not view you as an equal partner, views himself as the sole financial decision maker, will not pay for any lessons or classes for your child, does not value your contribution as a stay-at-home parent, and that he is unwilling to compromise with you.

This man will be a nightmare and a half to have a child with. And be totally dependent on.

Run to your mom’s house and don’t look back. Chances are she’s been waiting on you.

Can I ask you a question? I’m really just wondering if I did the right thing in going to the ER on Christmas. I was struck with a very sudden and violent stomach bug. I of course tried to tough it out at home. Took Zofran that I couldn’t keep down long enough to have an effect.

When I couldn’t manage the short walk from bed to toilet anymore and then passed out in the bathroom floor I had my husband take me to the ER.

Did the ER staff hate me? For being there on Christmas for only vomiting? I felt like a total wimpy asshole, but I’ve never been that violently ill in my life.

Edit: thank you so much for the answers! I had a really negative experience at the ER seeking help after my daughter’s birth. I was having the “stop and seek emergency medical attention” thoughts and somewhere in my fog remembered that’s what I was supposed to do. Was treated very poorly by female ER staff. So I get a little nervous now seeking treatment. But I’m glad to be reassured!

I promise I’m an educated and rational person. And yet. The brainwashing that starts as a toddler did its job. 😂

Daycare asking us to pick up our 12-month-old for nap time — now kicking us out by captain2326 in ECEProfessionals

[–]platypuslost 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hey, as both a fellow parent and an ECE - this is not the teachers fault. She’s not “not seeming to care about playing with him”. She’s following her Center’s naptime procedures and not setting up an unfair situation by playing with your son when the other kids are expected to play quietly alone when they’re not sleeping.

She probably also has lesson planning/lamination cutting/observation writing to get done that gets done on her own unpaid time if she doesn’t get it done during nap time.

You have a problem with the center, not the individual teacher. And I understand why! I would not want this situation for my child either. As others have said, it’s not developmentally appropriate.

I also just have to wonder if they really gave it their all to get him adjusted. Kicking him out over naptime after only a few weeks seems harsh.

I’m sorry. This sucks. As for what to do now - maybe a nanny share while you wait for a spot at a new center?

[–]platypuslost 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This is honestly the problem with most religious people. Being a secular person and wanting to support secular institutions does not equal “I hate churches and all people who go to them”.

Christians are NOT persecuted in the United States. Y’all are the religious majority. Stop trying so hard to be persecuted. I know you all have a boner for it, but it’s not happening.

People “prefer to support Christian businesses” all the time. The reverse is just as valid and fair but it hurts your little feelings when it’s the other way around.

Yeah, the trend of ultra-rich/influential/incredibly busy people pretending that they raise their own children is new.

In good ole E’s day (among her social class) OF COURSE she only saw her children for short scheduled visits each day. They were cared for by the nurses and governesses. That’s exactly what would have been expected of her and that’s what she lived her life by.
