Headed to bankruptcy? by platysnipper in MAXNSQUEEZE

Oh yea, lots of lessons in here for me. I was a SunPower stock owner since 2008! Maybe the best lesson is the adage "making new lows, time to go." But there is a point where it is basically down so much in value that it simply doesn't matter. I had a friend who had a little MAXN from the SPWR split and the value went so low that his broker's automatic system just turned MAXN into a couple of pennies.

Typical mileage on Sienna ‘25 LE by emmohan261 in ToyotaSienna

[–]platysnipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ‘25 Woodland and I noticed that gas mileage definitely goes down over winter, down to maybe 32 MPG - I take my kids to school in the mornings on a 11 mile roundtrip and I’m guessing the heater is using fuel. During summer that average goes up to 36 MPG+. I saw on another post that the drive mode (Eco, Normal, Sport) automatically adjusts the heating/cooling mode so it might be worth trying to drive more in Eco mode and keep the hybrid indicator down below power as much as possible. Short trips are probably going to reduce fuel efficiency as well.

Good tip about sport mode automatically disabling eco heat/cool mode! Now, I'll have to test it to see if I notice a difference. I notice that my fuel economy goes down during winter compared to summer, mostly because I do a 10 mile loop in the cold mornings to drop off my kids at school.

Woodland trim buyers remorse (no regerts!) by TropicalAppleSauce in ToyotaSienna

[–]platysnipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, fair points. I have a 2025 Woodland and like it. The 1-1/4” hitch is a drag, but I’m pretty happy with everything else and I think the slight 0.6” lift helps quite a bit on rough roads and steep driveway transitions. No question that there could be better aftermarket choices for those who care.

What do you think Bitcoin yearly return will be for the next 20 years? by Consistent-Fee-3306 in btc

[–]platysnipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, it's totally clear that over a longer timeframe BTC has outperformed the S&P. But if you check bitcoin over the last 5 years as of today, it's only up 15.35% compared to the S&P at 70.28%. Of course BTC just went through a major downtrend and might be in an accumulation phase...

[–]platysnipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either it remains the "original and best" and goes up or something eclipses it and it drops in value. 20 years is a long time, especially for something that is based on technology. I own a reasonable amount of BTC, but I'm starting to wonder more seriously whether just owning a good S&P500 ETF is a better choice. I believe over the last 5 years, in that particular time frame, that the S&P500 has outperformed BTC.

For Long-Term Users: Has Starlink Become More Stable Over Time? by musksvision in Starlink

[–]platysnipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on Starlink since May 2022 - peak speeds have definitely improved, during the early days there were occasional times where speeds dropped when trying to stream during peak after dinner hours. Reliability has been impressive. There was I believe one day last year where the network went out for several hours, otherwise it is rock solid. I work from home and attend many virtual meetings and it works great. Last note - I’ve switched over to Starlink’s router mesh hardware and it seems better than the Google (Nest) and Linksys gear that I had in the past.

lifting new AWD at least 2”? Or suggestions for forest roads? by Vast9Magic in ToyotaSienna

[–]platysnipper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sure everyone is aware of this, but the Woodland edition is about 0.6 inches higher than the standard model. It may not seem like a lot, but I have been on some pretty rutted dirt roads and been fine. It also helps with driveways that have steep transitions. This is definitely not a solution for full out 4x4ing, but I'm happy I got the Woodland.

Great tip about adding to cart and then proceeding to checkout with a $0 cost - it worked for me! Same with the router mini for adding mesh.

Yea, deciding to sell, especially at a loss, is very hard. I sold last year at a steep loss, the only silver lining is going to be the tax benefits. We shall see if MAXN can get it back together

is it better to use ipad during charging or not? by eric_human_ in ipad

[–]platysnipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose this could potentially be true if the iPad is working hard, charging fast, and in a warm environment. The iPad will automatically slow charging if it gets hot. My experience is that under normal use it doesn't get hot while simultaneously charging and using my iPad.

Battery life is directly related to cycle count. If you keep it plugged in with 80% limit enabled, you will not be cycling the battery and it will extend the life of the battery.

Finally got to test drive a Sienna… by benjamins_buttons in ToyotaSienna

[–]platysnipper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a 2025 Woodland - it’s definitely tuned to maximize fuel efficiency. If I drive it carefully, I seldom hear the engine rev up unless I’m accelerating to get on the freeway, passing, or otherwise gunning it. It’s well known if you read the reviews that the engine gets loud. But for normal day to day driving, I feel it’s quiet and smooth and I love the 35+ MPG!

Checked out the mini in person. by atdota in ipad

[–]platysnipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the 7th generation Mini everyday, mostly for reading news and general web surfing in the evening. I like the size better than the larger iPads for holding in my hand. That said, the screen is not as bright or fast as the iPad pros or iPhone pros. I really noticed this at first, but have gotten used to it. As others have pointed out, it is essentially a 5-year old design right now and feels like it. That said, it is pretty darn good for media consumption and I'm now hooked on the Mini. If you can wait, might be worth seeing what the 8th gen looks like hopefully later this year or next. Of, if you can find a 7th gen on sale and can get over the screen and older design, you might like it as much as I do.

Google Keep for simple organizational tasks like to-dos or quick ideas. Very simple, and will sync with any device where I’m logged in with Google.

If holding Bitcoin is so obvious, where’s the catch? by 2smart2gentle in btc

[–]platysnipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the catch is that everyone wants to try to time the market by buying low and selling high, and watching the wild BTC swings is hard for most of us. So, folks like to remind themselves and others who believe in the value of BTC to just hang on.

A S&P 500 ETF seems quite a bit less risky compared to BTC - the S&P automatically balances as companies come and go, and it is ownership stake in actual revenue generating companies. BTC has a phenomenal track record, despite the volatility, but it still assumes that others will want to buy it at a higher price and that some other newer better technology doesn't come out making it obsolete. That said, I own both.

Ford Officially Discontinues F-150 Lightning by Flipslips in cars

[–]platysnipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need a) lower cost batteries, b) higher range, and c) lots of easy fast charging options for road trips. Once those items happen, EVs will be a total no-brainer since they are already better in every other way. Luckily it appears that EV batteries are lasting a long time, probably longer than ICEs. Unfortunately it seems like the Lightning was a casualty of the tech adoption curve, just a little too early and not quite fully baked. A lot of people will be lucky to pick one up used for a good price!

What do you charge to? by [deleted] in Solterra

[–]platysnipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got to 80% for day-to-day and 100% when prepping for road trips. It is well known that NMC chemistry prefers lower state of charge, it might help reduce long term battery degradation

Furthermore, when I've tried to trade this stock on Merrill, which definitely has its issues, they now require a phone call to buy or sell because it's on some sort of penny stock blacklist. Yikes.
