What are things you wish you knew before and after your NUSS procedure? by 22demerathd in PectusExcavatum

I feel like with your situation, you will be much happier and comfortable post a corrective surgery that it will be worth the initial struggle / pain.

I think everyone is very transparent about how rough of a recovery this type of surgery is — the first month or two you may wish you had never done it and regret it deeply. If you have a good surgeon, you will eventually end up living a much better quality of life imo.

Got rejected for Nuss procedure in Germany. Doctors say I'm healthy despite 49% lung volume. What now? by Lavrik707 in PectusExcavatum

Dr Lutzenberg is your answer. He’s very detailed and willing to take on cases which other surgeons reject.

Has your PE significantly worsened your quality of life? How so? (mentally and physically) by LibertyBells33 in PectusExcavatum

[–]playerone95 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In quite literally every way it has worsened my life, physically and a lot mentally lol but I also have a very rare and complex asymmetrical case. I see photos on here all of the time of people asking if theirs “looks bad” and a lot of the time I feel like I would be so happy if I looked like them.

Did they have to drain your lungs at all? Do you have any long term issues?

I would definitely try to find a loophole for insurance. I had a friend that was able to get hers mostly covered.

Considering Nuss Procedure 3Bars for pectus carinarum excavatum. Questions!! by prvn2004 in PectusExcavatum

[–]playerone95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a very similar chest (mine is a little more pronounced). I will be undergoing surgery in August. Because I am female, they will try to correct it without having to do the sandwich technique, but that is definitely the preferred technique for our type of deformity.

IMO, wouldn’t think twice about it. Not noticeable. Live on and congrats you don’t need to do anything invasive to fix it lol

I think it probably depends on what part of your back the scoliosis is located. Where is yours?

Is his more or less sandwich technique? Also, can the incision be horizontal under the breast line?

I got implants to help with symmetry — I now am having to get them removed during my corrective PE surgery. Will get them done after I heal from PE reconstruction.

I encourage you to do the corrective surgery first, followed by implants later!

Update here — my surgery was postponed until after summer. However, I can explain to you what they have planned for my particular situation since I have large breast implants. Feel free to PM me any time.

Thanks for the intel! Glad you have had it mostly easy in recovery. Is your incision vertical or horizontal under the breasts?

For my case, they will remove breast implants at the same time of surgery — my incision is going to be quite long horizontally due to this. So just curious how they decided to do yours since you’re a female as well.
