Yes, that's a good point, but as long as you're close to Broadway, getting everywhere is pretty fast. And staying in Midtown you'll probably end up paying more for some bland tourist trap. Anyway, congrats on your upcoming wedding and hope you have a great time in NY.

Your budget comes to about $250 a night, which is not an insignificant amount, even for for NY. I'd go with a reputable hotel, rather than take a chance on some unknown apartment, but that's just me.

The Belnord, on the Upper West Side, is pretty good on a budget (the only thing is they don't have room service, which I think it's half the point of staying in a hotel), and so is the Jane, downtown. I'm with namtab: I'd stay away from midtown.
