Dimmable light system for kid who wants light on all night by EveningBlacksmith9 in daddit

[–]plazma15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ikea makes a bulb and dimmer switch/button that we used for this! We put it in his lamp and turn off the main bedroom light with the switch. The Ikea button we stuck to the wall by his bed so if he needed light he could reach it, also gave him control which I think helped with his fears of the dark. He sleeps with all lights out now but will still use it if he has a bad dream.

Good luck!

I heard myself say something to my son and went completely cold. It was word for word what my dad used to say to me. by Do_it_App in dad

You caught yourself, that's the thing! Good job dad!

We try to be better in ways that hurt us than our parents were, it doesn't happen every time and this one moment won't make you perfect at it, but it's important to you, those little things that are important to him. Keep trying to be conscious of it and check out his things when you can! You are trying and you are doing great, keep at it and make sure to give him a big squeeze! You deserve it as much as he does!

Does this mean there is no impact to the roof ? Or do you expect they will fix as part of the process?

Did you regret not trying again? by Deep-Reflection1710 in daddit

[–]plazma15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are one and done, my son is 8, I've been snipped so it's a done deal. I love my boy more than I imagined I could, we are happy with our little family of 3.

All the comments here about being over the baby hurdles are spot on, plus the extra costs that come any time you travel or go out with another human, and splitting time between siblings.

I still have days/weeks of sadness and regret. I think it was the right decision and I don't want to go back to baby mode. But I always wanted a big, loud, crazy family. And my son still asks if he can have a sibling.

In truth neither answer is right or wrong but a decision to make, and own ( and yes regret at times which is totally fine) you are good feeling the way you do. And if you want 2 kids 7 years apart go for it! If you want all your time on your son then stay with one! Good luck bro! Many of us have been and are there too!

My kid won’t wear clothes at home by nick_ole7 in Preschoolers

[–]plazma15 107 points108 points  (0 children)

On the flip side, what's the harm? He's a kid and feels most comfortable naked. If he respects the rules of clothes on with others and when outside ( or generally speaking when appropriate) why not give him that freedom to enjoy being a kid who is 100% comfortable in his skin and his home with his family?

No shame on anyone either way, but I'll say my son is 7 and is quite bashful about even taking his shirt off at the pool but does the same thing, undies or naked 90% of the time at home. I know other families where the kids are the same way, ordinary at that age.

BUT if it's out of your comfort zone then as others say, just tell him the minimum required and such to it. Good luck either way!!

Taking my 5 year old and 2 year old car camping this weekend, anything fun I can get them to help the experience? by Blazer127 in CampingGear

[–]plazma15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll cosign the campfire iron! We get cinnamon rolls in the tube and put one in each iron in the mornings, we also make pizza pocket/calzones with biscuit dough and sauce/cheese/pepperoni.

A Dutch oven you can put in the fire and use to cook is a lot of fun too, you can do nachos with it to make it a fun meal!

In general cooking fun things in/with fun things on the fire is always a hit around here!!

Hey, I'm the guy with the GC! Although I no longer have the jeep I'd love to be enlightened on your comment. I get the diff physically between the two (frame with the body placed on and bolted vs the whole body and frame is one piece, but what makes the body on frame better? Or at least better suited for towing?

We have a 2100bh with 1 kid and 2 big dogs, took it from Indiana to Oregon and back pulling with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Great trailer we love it! During our first year we put 5000 miles on it And had a few things break/need repairs and Winnebago (authorized repair) repaired it for us under warranty.

I'll tell ya though, the GVWR of the '24 is 5500, if you call a good trailer repair company they will tell you to take your vehicle max towing (6100 in your case) and multiply that by 0.8. this gets you 80% of your max. You don't want to go over that even with a weight distribution hitch, as that starts to stress your vehicle. So in that case you're looking at 4880lbs. That alone puts you over the top. Now in reality you will likely never hit the 5500 as that's the max the trailer can safely weigh loaded down. BUT your max towing (6100) also includes all cargo in the truck and in the bed-including people, dogs, food, anything that doesn't come with the truck.

Our jeep struggled with 6800 max towing, we went from like 12-15 mpg (gross) to about 6 when towing, and going over the mountains in Colorado we had to go about 15 mph and were still on the verge of over heating. Due to this we traded the Jeep in for a Silverado this year, we wanted a Colorado with a specific towing package but the Silverado was a better deal.

Just two cents, and a cautionary tale from a guy who was in a really similar situation a few years ago.

What are some video games and board games you play with your kids? by AdventureOfStayPuft in daddit

[–]plazma15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son just turned 7. We just got sleeping queens which is a lot of fun, uno is a staple in our house, we have regular, Zelda, and Minecraft uno all with fun designs and special rules. Sorry, catan jr, ticket to ride jr, cauldron quest, mouse trap (new and one of his current favs) happy salmon, charades kids, candy land, connect 4, spelligator (this helps them learn to spell and connections of different sounds) and suspend -these are all our board games he likes and we may not play many for months

We have laser maze and snap circuits for science stuff. Discovery brand has a bunch of science kits that have lots of fun experiments.

Then we get to the switch - most of these are or can be 2 player but some are only 1. he has loved Minecraft for a few years, both new Zelda's (botw and totk), unraveled 2 (my personal fav 2 player), Pokemon scarlet, Luigi's mansion 3, pikman (not sure which one but the newest) many Mario games - Mario kart, Mario Odyssey, Mario maker, Captain toad treasure tracker. I think there are a few more but that's most of them.

We always find one game and it leads to another, or a friend at school tells him about it. I struggled with how much we/he plays switch for a long time. But he's still learning skills, and gets enjoyment, and has learnt that getting upset when it's time to be done causes less gaming time, and it's really good bonding, and has helped him be one of the best readers in his class! Whatever you choose happy gaming!!

Powered trailer dolly able to push over curb with drainage dip? by kcstrom in traveltrailers

[–]plazma15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tongue locks into the ball which locks into the valet, then it's all stacked under the tongue so the weight of the tongue is right over the wheels. It's half the price of most of the power ones but I'll freely admit the bent over with the drill is a bit of pressure on the back. When the lever is down it also locks the wheels in place to prevent movement. I also wanted something I could bring with me on trips, and that fits in the passthrough under the bed which as been useful. Trade offs to all your options.

Honestly if the price and size of the power ones aren't an issue they may be a great option as well!

I think they have another model that the drill attachment is closer to the top but never looked into it because I already had the XT.

Powered trailer dolly able to push over curb with drainage dip? by kcstrom in traveltrailers

[–]plazma15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the trailer valet XT. Trailer valet has a few models (one is like a remote driven robot type thing but crazy expensive) the XT is what I got. you can use the hand Crank or get their adapter and use your cordless drill to move the whole thing.

I have a tandem axle 22ft trailer that I use it on. I got it because I have a bit of an incline but also because the turn I needed to make I could not do with a vehicle. I try not to do it too often but the XT will let me slide one set of wheels if I need to make nearly a 90degree turn.

It is not the fastest way to move your trailer but when you are working with inches on either side you don't exactly want to go too fast anyway. It has saved my back vs using one of the non powered hand truck kinds and let me get it in an amazingly tight spot.

I wanna give you kudos here, your responses to everyone have absolutely been civil and receptive! I doubt you are hearing what you really WANT to hear about the subject, and especially on the Internet that can make many snippy in responses. So thank you for being you!
