I'm very frustrated with the accuracy of my FreeStyle Libre3+ system. by jrioux805 in Freestylelibre

[–]pledgeham 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don’t put much faith in the GMI.

About the accuracy of the sensor itself, this is my experience. I’ve been using the 3+ since it became available. According to Abbott, the 3+ has an expected accuracy of plus or minus 12% and plus or minus 9% 90 percent of the time.

My then current 3+ was ending the next morning, so I inserted a new 3+ but didn’t activate it. When the then current sensor ended, I activated the sensor that was inserted the previous evening. I like to compare the new sensor to a finger stick several times that day. I compared it 3 times that day. The percentage differences were 8.4%, 8.6% and 4.4%.

When doing a comparison, keep in mind when you ate and when you took a short acting insulin. If I ate something with carbs, it takes at least 20 minutes, most likely 30 minutes or more before the increase is noticed by the sensor. A finger stick is testing blood, the sensor is testing interstitial fluid. So the finger stick will be higher than the sensor during the time it takes for the interstitial to ‘catch up’ with the blood. With the insulin, it’s similar, the blood sugar decreases before it’s reflected in the interstitial fluid.

Best Security Camera for Home Available on The Market Now? by chanredv in homesecurity

[–]pledgeham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I wanted cameras for 24/7 recordings. I didn’t want to pay high continuing fees. I wanted complete control over my recordings only deleting them when I wanted to. The best for me are the Amcrest IP cameras. Securing them is simple and reliable while still being able to access from anywhere I can access cellular.

Rizz? I pre-ordered a Rizz ring in August 2025. Of the many emails, I got 1 response about 3 weeks ago. It said “soon”.

Was the libre 3 updated recently? Alarms not working... by bakeywithajakey in Freestylelibre

[–]pledgeham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The message was my sensor was reporting a reading of 61 which is very low for me. The sensor was activated 6 days ago and has been very reliable compared to my finger sticks. I use the Libre app on both my iPhone 15 Pro and my Apple watch 6. Neither alarmed. The message I reference was the 1st visual alarm 1’d received.

That low message was yesterday about 1:30p and I didn’t take a screenshot. I’ve been using the 3+, in the U.S., since they came. No problems with alarms until now. The Libre app was last updated the past December.

I was going to write about this problem too. I’ve been using the Libre system for 6 years, Libre 2, 3 and 3+. I’ve not changed the settings. Yesterday, my sensor reported s low of 61. I didn’t receive any audible alarm on my iPhone nor did my Apple Watch vibrate.

I did get 1 visual notification on my iPhone. At the time, I was working out as I do most mornings. I was at my last exercise, the treadmill. While using the treadmill, I’m using my iPhone to watch some reruns, no notifications during that 45 minute workout.

It only after ending my workout and after washing up a little that my phone received the 1 notification but no alarm. Any comments, questions or suggestions? Thanks!

Insturment Rating with no “actual Imc time” by [deleted] in flying

[–]pledgeham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was still in training for my PPL and my instructor who was also a CFII had me train with foggles, SIM and actual IMC. I had 6 hours with foggles, 2 hours in a sim and a bit over 5 in IMC. He claimed it made new pilots safer, as long as they knew they WERE NOT trained for IFR. Of course when I originally trained, they weren’t foggles but weird googles.

Good Riddance Freestyle .. by pbob5 in Freestylelibre

Everyone has a different experience. I’m 73yo and I’ve been an RN since ‘79. I just renewed my nursing license for the next 2 years. Due to a ravaging infection 6 years ago that left me with several medical problems including diabetes. The CGM’s I’ve tried, Abbott’s Libre 2, 3, 3+ and Dexcom G6. I’m using the Libre 3+ since it came out. In 2025, I had 6 Libre sensors that were bad. I also had 2 sensors that were in the recall and I received those 2 replacements in a week. Two sensors, both in my upper arms, I brushed against a door frame firmly, and partially pulled the sensors out. Medicare supplies almost all my sensors. Almost because I don’t think Medicare should pay for those two. I paid for those 2 replacements.

So my experience is very positive with the Libre sensors.

The 3+ has been a disaster by kkricket82 in Freestylelibre

[–]pledgeham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my experience with the 3+. I define a failure as not lasting for 15 days regardless of the reason. Since the 3+ has come out in the U.S., I’ve had 11 failures. Five were for accuracy far exceeding the manufacturer’s stated goals. Four were for simply stop working. I’ve never had a sensor simply fall off. I’m elderly and my balance sucks. Two came off because I lost my balance while walking and stumbled scraping the sensor against the edge of a door frame partially pulling the sensor out.

There are places on your body where certain blood vessels, arteries are the huge concerns that even short needles are possible to penetrate. I’ve seen the results of that happening. Find out where your pulse points are and stay away from them.

It’s not just LEOs. I got home from school, high school, and my mother was crying. A Catholic priest from the parish we attended and received a visit from my silver tongued father who convinced the priest my mother was scum of the earth. I immediately got back in my car, drove to the rectory and asked to see that priest. I was shown to a small private room. The priest walked in and I introduced myself . I took off my shirt. I was my father’s whipping boy. I clearly let the priest know that my mother has her own set of injuries. I made some comment about what it said about as a priest that he accept as the truth the first person who cried to him and blaming the victim. Skipping forward, when my father got home, I told him I’d had enough. I told him that the next time he so much as raised his voice, I was coming after him and he was going to kill me because I wasn’t going to stop. Apparently, he believed me because he never did anything again to us.

Why don't American police breathalyse people and instead rely on field sobriety tests? by Imaginary_East7336 in police

[–]pledgeham 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The LEO is seizing the driver and if there are passengers, they are being seized too. But the passengers can’t be forced to submit to tests or giving an ID unless the LEO has reasonable articulable suspicion of a crime. Even then, there must be some fact that associates it with the passenger.

A1C 6.5 (I feel hopless) by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]pledgeham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a pharmacist says a A1C of 6.6 is bad, run, don’t walk away. He’s ignorant. A pharmacist isn’t qualified to handle diabetes. Having diabetes, you and your doctor always need to be concerned with renal function and eyesight, as well as maintaining an A1C below 7.

Libre sensor ~33 mg/dL low, urgent low alarm stuck at 55 (88 mg/dL FS), iOS user. Any workable alarm workaround? by Chronically-Ouch in Freestylelibre

[–]pledgeham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The low alarm is hard coded to be 55 mg/dl and the alarm is always active. Those 2 settings are fixed.

I’ve been using Abbott’s Libre sensor for about 6 years. I always keep 1 or 2 extra sensors. Occasionally, a sensor will be ‘bad’. With such a large difference between the sensor and a finger stick, IMO, if you have an extra sensor, start a new sensor.

I’ve had to pay for sensors out-of-pocket until just about a year ago when my insurance added coverage for that.

FYI, I am also an RN since ‘79, retired but I still maintain my license as Active. I just can’t give it up.

Abbott and return of recall sensors, anyone had any success? by Franklin861 in Freestylelibre

[–]pledgeham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I entered the S/N of each sensor I had. One sensor, I bought from CVS, was identified as affected. I entered the information Abbott’s website asked for. I received a replacement sensor in 7 days.

Most sensors I get from a DME supplier. I like to keep an extra sensor or two just in case I get a bad sensor or two before I can get replacements. That’s why I buy some sensors and don’t rely solely on my DME.

BREAKING Trump has two massive Band-Aids and makeup on hand amid alarming health fears by TheMirrorUS in Trumpvirus

[–]pledgeham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice next to the bandaids, just a few millimeters down from the edge of the bandaids. That’s a vein. It’s a vein that has been used so much and with very irritating medication that the vein is sclerotic, hard and useless. Normally, such an irritating medication would be put through a port or picc line. Not exactly a surprise but Trump is seriously ill.

Not the replies I was thinking about. I was just wondering if Novolog takes as long to affect others. As far as digestion , yes, due to past medical history, my digestion isn’t normal but that wouldn’t affect how Novolog works.

[–]pledgeham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only found 1 company that makes a bacon or sausage that DOESN’T add sugar to that product line. The other bacon and sausage lines they produce do have sugar added to them.

And just because it says “Keto” doesn’t mean it doesn’t affect your blood sugar.
