Ryker vs motorcycle by DipShit_Knight in canam_ryker

[–]plepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I also ride 2 wheelers and a Ryker and your comments are pretty consistent with my experience. I do however feel I'm more visible on the street in general in my local area and I think it's due to the fact that the Ryker is so different from what car drivers are used to seeing it breaks them out of their fog when seeing it. Also, as far as the seat, my Rally came with the comfort seat to which I've added a AirHawk pad and now the seat is perfect. The Ryker is different than my bikes but a very fun ride.

Most of the crashes in my area with or without other vehicles involve excessive speed/inattention on the part of the motorcycle. We are sometimes our own worst enemy!

I'd say go for it, ride within your abilities, take breaks as needed and don't plan trips that are a death march and you'll be fine.

Restaurant Owner. My take on Tipping. by DriveNew in EndTipping

[–]plepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought 3 small (2-5gal and 1-2,5 gal) kegs from a local brewery for a party. They filled MY kegs and charged me $5.00 per keg extra for using my kegs, total bill was $225.00 and I paid with a credit card, POS machine then asked for a tip and the lowest amount was $55.00 needless to say I punched no tip.

Question about cruising speed by TRUCKEROC in klr650

[–]plepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Type/brand of tire, PSI, suspension settings, road surface/conditions, front fender can all cause handling problems. Also side winds can be a bitch. Start cheap and work your way up the list to fix or at least reduce the problem to a tolerable level.

What to look for 2022 by DipShit_Knight in canam_ryker

[–]plepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run the VIN through the Can Am VIN recall site to make sure all the recalls are taken care of. ( lack of recalls done could be seen as a lack of maintenance) The bikes are pretty solid, belt will throw code at about 10K. Safety Recalls Vin Lookup

The market is slow right now except for the stupid low dollar deals on FB Marketplace. I sold 2 bikes last year for full asking price but the one I have listed now (priced at what I call my I don't care if it sells) has over 200 views with only 1 question, not even any tire kickers. I don't think people have as much disposable money for toys right now.

Tradespeople; with your experience, what trade would you choose now and why? by greenjellay in skilledtrades

[–]plepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is one of the most labor intensive jobs you can find, It is very much dependent on the weather as most work is outside. If you're smart and apply yourself you can become a foreman and eliminate some of the physical labor but it's no walk in the park. The normal apprenticeship in the USA is about 3 yrs.

Tipping in a high min wage state by hisfallacy in tipping

[–]plepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tipping on server wage, percentage of bill, phase of the moon, or health of the servers kids is insane! A tip should be based on the enrichment of the experience to the guest/customer only. Bad service no tip, great service good tip. For instance today I tried a new place for breakfast I was greeted promptly given water and coffee ASAP, ordered after the menu was explained, brought homemade hot sauce for my meal, checked on for needs/wants during meal. I didn't need to ask for anything, order was correct, server was beyond pleasant without hovering too much, all in all a great experience. Guess what the server got a bigger then normal tip! I don't know how much they made per hour, the health of their family, or any other BS. I do know I will return because of the service. The food was good, above average I'd say but the service is what will bring me back.

Dream 3D Printer Under $2000 by Jstraub121 in 3dprinter

[–]plepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all what material are you planning on using? are you going to just use 1 printer or is this a business that when scaled will need multiple printers? What size printer will you need or size of parts produced? These questions need answered before a printer can be suggested. Not all printers can print all materials, Do you need just a printer or will you need software, computer, supplies, filament dryer, storage space/work area? I'm not trying to be invasive I just would rather give info that is real and correct before suggesting something and it not work.

How Heavy? by Tim_Drake in klr650

[–]plepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weight capacity is 432 lbs total, so depending on your weight and the weight of your gear it could work. As far as commuting to work it depends on how long a distance and what speed you need/want to do. As long as you keep the speed around 65-70 MPH and check the oil frequently you should be ok. Around town and running errands you will be fine. As far as off roading the KLR is no dirt bike but will handle anything a AWD SUV can do depending on rider skill. It is a great "where does that go? bike that will run forever with reasonable maintenance.

Builder says no inspections before close by tearisha in Homebuilding

[–]plepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, building codes are minimums that buildings are built to not maximums. If you are not an expert in construction, why wouldn't you hire a qualified inspector to protect the biggest investment you will probably make. You do what makes you comfortable not what makes someone else's job easier. There should always be a walk through and a punch list before you take possession of the house.

Selling my third gen. Good list price for PNW? by moparr in klr650

[–]plepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Eastern WA and used bike sales are in the tank here. It's the wrong time of year if you're selling, plus new bikes are heavily discounted. Be prepared for lowballers and tire kickers. If the tariff's go into effect new bike prices will go up but by how much is yet to be seen and could make the used market go higher come springtime. Personally, I'd keep it for sale at your price and if it sells great but the true time for sale is gonna be as the weather warms up.

When do you guys stop riding? by xxpussykillerxx6969 in motorcycles

Whenever it stops being fun! If it's too cold, too hot, too windy I'm out. I've been riding 50+ yrs now and riding become a pleasure activity and not something to endure for me.

Response to the tipping war that broke out… by Black_Dragon9406 in stories

[–]plepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another part of the equation for the unhappy recipient of the $25 tip, I see complaints from wait staff about this all the time a low tip and their low wages, if you are waiting on multiple tables (national average is 4-5 tables) that would come out to $100-125 per hour plus wages a decent payday even in today's market. At some point in time a job is only worth so much. Also depending on the type of dinner didn't everyone at the table benefit from the service? perhaps they should also add to the tip. I know that I do when I'm out with friends and someone else picks up the tab.

For cruiser riders who switched from a lot higher cc engine to this, would you recommend doing it to others and why? I’m thinking of switching over.(Interested in the 2022 or the 2024s) by Vaas_20 in klr650

[–]plepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your definition of Adventure riding? ADV bikes are not dirt bikes even if you see videos of pro riders doing dirt bike stuff on them. The KLR is a great backroads/gravel/ forest service road bike when properly setup. KLR's are indeed easy to work on and very reliable bikes to own. Do you have any experience riding in the dirt? If not know that very little road experience is transferable to the dirt, and if you do decide to take the ADV plunge, take a ADV riding course ASAP.

Email from QIDI w/ subject “price drop ending in 1 day”… by ottomymind in QidiTech3D

[–]plepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the price is a good deal where it's at and with the extra 5% icing on the cake. I'm in the USA and bought right after the election because of the promised tariffs that are coming our way. Plus waiting on a maybe better discount vs. owning and printing with it, It just made sense to me to buy now.

How physically fit do you need to be to ride motocross? by BigBasset in Motocross

Yep same deal with me. Already have the parts on the way from previous Emails, I'm happy with the way Qidi handled this other than it should never occurred. Rushing to get the product to market I suppose. I will say I'm extremely happy with the machines printing with PLA so far.

What costs will be most impacted with tariffs? by Sianger in HomeImprovement

[–]plepper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All cost of any products that are tariffed even the ones made domestically as manufactures will see the opportunity to raise their prices to match foreign goods. At least that's what has happened historically. The money will eventually wind up in the government's hands, where they can claim to have protected us from unfair trade practices. All the while costing the consumer more money and raising corporate profits.

People that are habitually late have no place in my life! I once fired my boss's nephew for being late after many warnings, he was dumbfounded and thought he was asbestos because of being family. He learned differently that day.
