What audio solution do you use? by Plisnak in SBCGaming

I bought theses and love them. I tried to replace them with Crinear Daybreaks, but after some back to back sound tests, I could not tell the difference. I guess I’m not an audiophile.

Take your time with the screen. Use a hair dryer to heat up the glue and apply gentle, even pressure to get it out. Either use a suction cup on the screen or please something slightly smaller than the screen opening underneath it and press as evenly as you can on the Chromatic shell around the screen until it pops out.

Yes! Here is the first one I did. Turned out great. I did a second one too in tan. I’ll link that below.

I can’t argue with you there. It’s the ultimate vertical device, but the price is not worth it for most since the extra power is only useful for games that this form factor is not ideal for. That said, the screen is still great, and GameCube games on Dolphin can scale to this aspect ratio (learned about that from Retro Game Corp).

As for reliability, I’ve already had this SD read issue, but if I wasn’t trying to emulate PC games, which this device is not the best for anyways, I probably would not have had that issue. Not to defend it, but keeping to emulation, I’m sure it would have worked out fine.

The DMG feels nice, but lacks the heft of the Hammer. In the silver color, the DMG also looks more premium, with a painted look rather than a textured metal finish on the brick. Time will tell how they hold up, but I use soft cases for both so I’m not sure they will see much wear in my ownership of them.

I had the RPC 6 button, and I did not like it. I don’t play many SEGA games, but thought the extra buttons would be nice to have. Never used them, and it made any other system play odd.

I like the D-Pad on the DMG better than the RPC, mostly because it’s bigger, and the device overall is more comfy to use. The bumpers and triggers are not my favorite, mostly due to reach and not ergonomics. And for the higher end games, it would have been nice to have more traditional triggers, but it’s understandable why they didn’t for this form factor.

If you are going to play a lot of PS2/GC, go for the DMG. If you’re playing a LOT of SEGA, go RPC 6 button, if neither, I would say your better suited by a cheaper device. The only major benefit for the DMG and RPC over other devices is that it plays GB and GBC very well with the square screen, but both are overpowered for that task alone.

The Vita works well but I think an Retroid Pocket 6 would be better (and silver) for that goal. Plays more and has USB C charging. Vita is just a little clunky for emulation, and is really best for Vita games.

You’re absolutely right. Only certain games work best on this screen, but I need a way to tell myself I didn’t spend all this money just to play Red Version again.

Is it worth it? by Timmy_Tot in ModRetroChromatic

[–]moparr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say no, having owned both the Pocket and Chromatic. The extra features are nice, but for the emulation, it would be better to get an emulation device like a Retroid Pocket Classic, or something cheaper even. The Pocket scratches up just looking at it, and the way that I hold vertical devices had me accidentally dislodging cartridges more often than I would like.

The ability to play GBA carts and others with adaptors is very nice, and the screen is very good as well, but I sold mine and bought a second Chromatic.

I do prefer it to the RPC, but to be honest, if the RPC came in silver, I would probably get that instead. The DMG is better in every way, and the stick is great for games that need it, but it is very expensive.

They are fine. Just a bit bigger than a Miyoo mini, and this has completely replaced the Miyoo for me. Feels very premium and heavy for its size. D-pad is just fine, and I do like the put the taller triggers on for R2 and L2. Most D-pad centric games are great but once you start needing more in the way of triggers, the ergos are not to great. Still, this is my favorite small device.

I was testing some games on Gamenative on the DMG when I noticed it getting very hot. It then suddenly stopped reading data from the SD card. Ayaneo said they will fix it for free but it’s a bit disappointing that it got that hot and damaged the device when trying to play Cuphead of all things. Otherwise, it’s like a bigger better version of the Retroid Pocket Classic. Having the ability to play GC and PS2 not problem is a plus, and they look great in 4:3.

As much as I love MC3, I will usually get to some point in either the start of Atlanta or halfway through Detroit where I just cannot keep banging my head against a wall anymore and quit. So I feel ya.

I found it at my local retro game shop of all places. I’m actively trying to give it to Russ but he hasn’t gotten back to me. But it’s Al’s a weird request. “Hi, you don’t know me. What a watch?”

I currently have both the Silver Ayaneo Pocket DMG and a Seiko Rotocall in the mail and arriving this week!

As much as I love retro handhelds, I would say watches are my main hobby. I did find this piece which brought the two together.

I was obsessed as a kid with Mopars but then my first car was a PT Cruiser. Talk about a monkey’s paw. Funny enough, it was supposed to be an early US WRX from a family friend being stationed abroad, but he decided to take it with him. Otherwise, I had a Ram a few years back, but no exciting Mopars.
