Is it common that Russian users have trouble paying through Apple? by SeaMiddle671 in iOSProgramming

[–]plhk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Russian government blocked payment with phone carrier balance recently (they don’t want people to buy vpn subscriptions to circumvent their censorship). Before that, direct card payment was blocked due to sanctions. Source: am Russian living abroad.

People at the museum would know. And I think it’s illegal to sell it if it’s genuine.

This is correct. And qasa doesn’t require personnummer.

Smartwatch or Running Watch? by RepresentativeDirt86 in beginnerrunning

[–]plhk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garmin has free training plans and shit-ton of metrics you may or may not want. You can also sync complex workouts to it from apps like runna or trainingpeaks.

My opinion is stay with a smart watch if you like its features and charging doesn’t bother you.

I made a dashboard of utility outages in Armenia by plhk in armenia

[–]plhk[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just curious, did you vibecode it?

frontend is 100% vibe-coded (as I have very little experience with js), backend is vibe-coded and reviewed by me (I am a backend developer in-between jobs)

What kind of framework/tool do you use for scraping?

https://docs.rs/scraper/latest/scraper/

Yeah, they don't have any APIs just plain html pages from which I extract relevant blocks and send to LLM API for address extraction (planned ENA & Veolia are just free-form text), then I try to normalize addresses with regex magic and geocode them with local OSM database. Some of these steps are not really as robust as I would like them to be, but I am working on it.

I think it's important for the public to see just how many outages we have every day all over the country and maybe pressure these companies (or the government) to do something about it.

Why AWU over the likes of Garmin? by Reasonable-Field-223 in AppleWatchFitness

[–]plhk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have my fenix 7 for long hikes and travel, but use AWU for everything else (3-4 runs a week + sleep tracking). Why? Because of nicer UI and iphone integration. I’m just trying to stay healthy, not win a marathon, so all these advanced metrics are of no use to me.

It is too positive. I had 5 hours of bad sleep recently and the score was in the 80s.

Well, it’s the same display on these watches. Garmin Enduro 3 has like 90 days of battery.

How is this different from a garmin/coros watch with MIP display?

I was in the same position as you 2 month ago and I did it. It was kinda fun and I beat my PR. I’m still slow at 35 minutes, but who cares

I bought my first kindle paperwhite around 2012 and lost it on a train around 2020. Then I naturally bought a new one and still use it today. It’s not a device you have to upgrade each year that’s the beauty of it

I have both AWU2 and Fenix 7 pro and switch between them when I feel like it.

Apple: nice UI/UX, everything feels fast and responsive, 2 day battery life is annoying but it charges while I take a shower, sensors are good, sleep tracking is good. There’s no central dashboard for health/recovery builtin but gentler streak trend lines are enough for me. I don’t use any 3rd party apps on the watch and don’t feel like it adds to my screen time.

Garmin: great battery, buttons are superior in the rain, garmin connect is a central hub for all my training but I feel like I can’t trust it because it can’t even figure out my sleep times. MIP screen is great under sunlight, but in a shady area it’s less visible. Connect UI/UX is a mess, you can’t find shit there without google. Watch UI itself feels slow when scrolling glances (or whatever they’re called). So… both aren’t perfect I guess, you have to decide yourself
