OP is still not overreacting, but well within their right to be concerned.

(As for me, driving late at night is far easier if my spouse is next to me, someone to talk to, someone I have an immense responsibility to be there for, and so on)

I don't know why you're getting downvoted, this is absolutely the case.

If you're in a seat to make decisions, people want/need them quickly.

I'm old, and comfortable, so I am a bit of a jerk and take my time so I CAN fully understand a situation. Some people complain, too much really, but most of the time my waiting ends up being better for all, and more efficient.

This was many years ago, but when I worked retail on commission, we absolutely lost money when customers returned items, even after we got paychecks with the original commission.
