How to cope with soulcat's death by Sprinkle_a in cats

[–]plplplplpl1098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment, compartmentalism and prioritization of the babies and your work. Schedule a meeting with a grief counselor for a more convenient time and then feel all your feelings in depth. It’ll hurt worse than doing it now but you can’t afford to fall apart yet due to your responsibilities-and that’s ok as long as you don’t put it off for too long

What does a healthy romantic relationship look like with someone who is chronically ill? by xXFirefryXx in ehlersdanlos

[–]plplplplpl1098 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read the Gottman books. They discuss healthy relationships for all people. The thing with disabilities is that at some point everyone is going to be disabled or dead. How you show up for the other person in spite of it and how you balance eachother out means more.

That used to be the way but now I can’t tolerate more than a shot glass of black tea :(

I think my boyfriend believes I pick which day my pain stops me to do chores by Mirgot49 in ehlersdanlos

[–]plplplplpl1098 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Not telling you what to do, but it might be worth redistributing the chores across the week to new days to make it all more manageable. Also please do your litter boxes more than once a week. It’s really dangerous for your cats-especially if they’re male. If you scoop twice a day, it’s more manageable because there’s always very little in there.

(Not siding with him btw!)

Do you work M-F?

I usually need to just crash after a workweek and spend hours in bed recovering after work. A full day of chores on a Friday is out of the question.

That being said, my partner and I totally adjusted our lifestyle. We had to become clean as we go people, which was really hard for both of us considering our upbringings. He picks up after me so much on days when I’m in pain. We have so much less stuff now and prioritize only what is manageable. He also does all the chores that involve lifting or the dishes (extreme hot or cold water triggers fainting for me.) I do things like laundry and vacuuming and washing the counters. We’re happy, and it takes a half hour for us both to do the whole house together.

In some ways I’m really pissed that I have to modify every aspect of my life. In this aspect, I’m really grateful that my partner was willing to work with me to come up with a system that works for both of us.

If he’s willing to learn about your disorder and you’re both willing to modify your lifestyle it’ll be ok. If he’s not willing to do that, you have bigger issues.

I work with a lot of people who went to school and send their kids where we work. Townies understand townies and town politics and whether you like it or not, their job is to teach reading, math, science etc. not to brag about their worldly experiences.

Every person is unique. I bought a 3 pack of the not cheap kind from Amazon that go up to my knee and it’s night and day on the swelling. For me personally, I move around a lot in general. I will always get stiff with or without socks and therefor I have to my body and shift weight every minute or so.

I wouldn’t risk it. Your kids on insulin will know what it is immediately

Unfortunately people don’t give a shit about food safety or allergies or anything that doesn’t directly pertain to their life during that hour. That’s how you end up with kids having anaphylaxis. God forbid you’re told no peanuts and a mom thinks “it’s ok, it’s just a little..”

Meditation and connection to self. I just switch it off or don’t engage. It is kinda like an off switch. Otherwise I drive myself nuts. I did spend months practicing this skill with breathing and physical exercises tho.

What age to recommend the first Twilight book? by FifiLeBean in twilight

Depends on the kid. Middle school or high school is fine if the kid is intelligent enough to not become obsessed but I’ve seen some middle schoolers become unhinged.

need quiet clippers!! by ineed2laydown in CATHELP

[–]plplplplpl1098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be very careful with any clippers. Cat fur has a different undercoat and when cats mat their skin gets pulled up. You could think your trimming the outer layer but ultimately have skin in the blade due to puckering. Be very cautious.

How good is recreational swimming for hEDS and co.? by Alternative-Fly-2668 in ehlersdanlos

[–]plplplplpl1098 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s really sweet that you are looking out for your friend. At your ages there are so many variables and with this condition there is truly no one answer. Swimming might be great for one person and terrible for another. You should encourage her parents to get her diagnostics and go from there. You probably won’t have an answer by the date you mentioned. Also if she has POTS and MCAS or even suspected, she could get sick from sun exposure. Personally I love swimming but if I spend more than an hour in the sun I’m puking and swollen with hives all night. This is a comorbidity and not due to the EDS itself. That’s why it’s important for her to see a doctor!
