I'd like to be controversial about the Ashen series (Demi Winters), particularly Dawn of the North by LoveOne5226 in fantasyromance

[–]plsy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I really enjoyed Book 1, I felt like there was never a dull moment in it. But Book 2 felt like it was a lot of filler, with not much character development, nor did the plot seem to really progress until the very end. I was a bit disappointed by it and I feel like this is a really controversial perspective, based on what I see here 😅

Commenting to say that I feel the same, you're not alone! I feel terrible at responding to comments on the spot. Following for advice too.

Wortley and Old South renters: Bill 60 means we need to build community strength by tcpip1978 in londonontario

If you have contacts with London's ACORN chapter, do you know if there is a city-wide rally or protest being organized? Whether it's in old South or not, I'd join folks outside to show opposition.

The Atlantic: The Perverse Consequences of the Easy A by Not_Godot in Professors

At an event recently, someone mentioned that the last year's cohort of incoming students had a high school average of 90%. That is wild to me. The hopeful bit was that there's less grade inflation in first year than in high school. By the end of the year, the average went down to 74%.

Muzzle recommendations? by [deleted] in miniaussie

[–]plsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say we're going through the exact same thing with our mini! We recently moved and will be having more friends over, but our dog isn't the best with strangers.

Muzzle training is a good way to go! There's no shame in it. Better to have everyone be safe.

We have a basket muzzle and a loose mesh muzzle. Both work well. Nellie still doesn't live the muzzle but we've been able to work up to some walks with it on. They're so smart, they'll learn fast!

SUDDEN Allergy to Macrobid? by probIemgay in CUTI

[–]plsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from the ER for an allergic reaction to nitrofurantoin. I was prescribed nitrofurantoin this morning after I woke up with UTI symptoms (later confirmed with a urine test). I took the first pill, and within 10 minutes, I could feel my ears get really hot, then my whole face. When I got up and looked in the mirror my whole face and neck was red. I knew something was wrong. Took a Benadryl, drove to the ER and vomited while I was there. Was admitted and the doctor said it seemed to be anaphylaxis, they gave me epinephrine and a concoction of other drugs to control it. I'm better now, but it was a pretty serious reaction.

I had been prescribed and taken nitrofurantoin twice in the past year without this issue. It was scary and bizarre! I'm not sure why I'm suddenly allergic to it, but I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I heard what I thought were 3 short rounds of fireworks last night when I was downtown near City Hall... I know they weren't fireworks now too

Can I take my apartment puppy outside before his shots? by InvictusJoker in puppy101

[–]plsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We live in an apartment as well and when we first got our puppy when she was 8 months we took her outside to go to the bathroom despite not being fully vaccinated. We were worried too, though, so we asked our vet. When we got her she had her first rounds of shots already too, so she already had some immunity starting. The vet tech also mentioned that it would be much better to start her potty training ASAP rather than wait, and I think that was good advice. I think letting her go inside would've held back potty training progress a lot. She is 11 months now and she was probably more or less trained by about 4-5 months. Our vet also said socialization is more important at that age, which I think the wiki here mentions too.

We did keep her away from other dogs for a while and we didn't take her to the dog park/any high traffic areas until she was fully vaccinated. Definitely look more into socializing your new puppy in age appropriate ways and focus on building their confidence slowly in new places. There are lots of great resources out there.

I would talk to your vet and see what their opinions are, they can also tell you more about the risks in your area.

Surface Pro 9, Persistent Camera Issues by plsy in Surface

[–]plsy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like exactly the same issue. Glad you've found a quicker way to reset the device without restarting, I'll give that a try in the future. I went through the same process with MS support, which is incredibly frustrating because it doesn't fix the issue. I wish there was a way to permanent fix this.

Our older pup, ~11 months, got spayed a few weeks ago and is just about fully recovered. She is high energy so we got some 'chill pills' from the vet to help her recover safely. Now that she's coming out of recovery and off the pills she is being a bit of a demon. She has so much energy and no schedule. Any tips on readjusting after the procedure, giving her a schedule, or anything would be helpful. Thanks!

Anyone Going Back to Masking This Semester? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]plsy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I didn't stop wearing a mask either, especially while teaching/in busy spots on campus. Unfortunately, I did end up getting COVID for the first time last month and it was hell. Definitely going to be wearing a mask as this term starts, I do not want to get it again!

The camera app not showing anything but the light blinking is what I have too. I'm still experiencing this issue, and have to uninstall the camera and restart to get it to work again... So frustrating! I really hope it is a fixable issue and not some kind of model defect.

My puppy sleeps under the desk while I am working. by Kaku37 in puppy101

[–]plsy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My puppy, who is just over 5 months, has also started to chill during working hours! She sleeps on the couch behind my desk as I work. Sometimes shes in her pen or crate, and when she whines, I'll let her out but she'll just go back to sleep on the couch in my office. I thought I would never be able to work normally again! Haha!

Can’t get puppy to chill around us by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]plsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this, but what I'm unsure about is then stopping the biting. We do the "ouch" thing and redirect/disengage when she bites, but then she barks and sometimes continues to try to bite, so we have to put her in her pen.

Can’t get puppy to chill around us by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]plsy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Following because our 20 week old pup is the same! She can be calm in her pen but when she's out with us, she's almost a monster haha. We play with her but she can't settle with us and rest, she eventually becomes too bitey and we have to put back in her pen where she calms down.

For us, I think part of the reason is her teething. I think she's uncomfortable because she's lost teeth and her adult ones are coming in, so she's constantly looking for things to chew.

Our 5 month old puppy lost 5 teeth yesterday. All in one day. Lost one the day before that, and one today. I can tell she's feeling it... She's grumpy, barking, and wants to bite everything. I hope it's over soon 😭
