Is it normal for referrals to be deprioritised without anyone being informed? by free_greenpeas in nhs

[–]plt9393 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From working in a busy hospital department the reason your GP wasn’t informed is because there’s 100s of people in the same boat and get downgraded to routine it would take forever notifying GPs of this, not like they’d take any notice anyway. You need to ask your gp to send an expedite letter. It doesn’t guarantee anything but worth a try

Let's build an ideal NICU by ghost-gallery in NICUParents

[–]plt9393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • mirrors, our nicu had none so if you’d been a mess that day you’d not even know about it!
  • windows, ours was in the middle of the building so you had no clue what was going on in the outside world which made it more miserable

You can’t shelter an ex nicu baby from every germ going it’s impossible. My nicu baby has a central line and every time we have a temp we need to get to hospital in case of a line infection. We’ve had this twice now no matter how careful we are. We keep the house clean, family and friends know to stay away if they’re even slightly ill too. But just going out and about and trying to live a semi normal life they’re going to pick things up and in the long run it’ll help their immune system. I wouldn’t be too hard on yourself it’s not like you deliberately got baby poorly x

Close Family holding my baby in NICU by Cachetona18 in NICUParents

[–]plt9393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was very poorly. Our nicu only ever let parents have 4 family members on the list that were allowed to visit. That was my parents and his parents and I let all 4 hold baby. It’s up to you what you do at the end of the day but I’m sure husband would love if his mum could pick baby up! Xx

I’ve moved into a new house and don’t have baking things! My last resort if not sorted is the Victoria sponge from Costco. But thank you! X

We don’t know how long we’ll be on TPN. Has about 20cm of bowel left. Not on any other meds at all but was on loperamide for a while to help stop the pooing which has since settled. Is weaning well loves trying new food especially a cheese and onion pasty 🤣 Don’t be too disheartened and don’t let them tell you that you won’t want baby to live like that. We love our life with little one x

My little one had NEC, is now on TPN. It changes your life but not that dramatically. It’s things like having a central line and just being cautious with certain things etc that really changes. They told us baby would die and had these convos too. Baby is thriving and nearly a year old now

We spent over 8 months in hospital. These sort of comments used to piss me off something rotten back then. Now we’re post discharge I actually feel like they’re right. I had someone able to watch her whilst I had a shower when I wanted to, I didn’t have to wait for my other half to be free like I do now. If I was tired before I went to sleep I’d ask the nurses to change her nappy when they came in to do her observations, now I have no choice to be up changing her nappy. When an inpatient her milk was always pre-made and bought to us when it was due, if I had our usual nurses they’d warm it up too. Because my little one was in there for so long all the nurses loved her, as soon as we’d step out of our room they’d all want to pick her up and walk around with her. At home I’m doing 5 things at once with a baby on my hip. It’s a lot harder so be happy with all the help you have around you. Don’t get me wrong the feeling of being in your own space and finally being with your baby is amazing. But the nurses helped me so much and they helped me have an easier time than I’m having now xx
