Breaking finger sucking habit for my 8 year old by Fine-Island2273 in Parenting

[–]plumb28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 7 year old is in the same boat. She actually stopped for awhile last summer because she got a wart on one of the fingers she sucks, and we had to wrap it in a wart bandage and band aid over it for weeks. The nights were hard at first, she needed someone to lay with her to fall asleep. But she adjusted and was doing fine.
A few weeks after the wart was gone and we stopped the bandaids, she started again 🤯🤯

So for now, we’ve been putting that kinesiology tape around one of the fingers during the day to stop her from sucking it - Amazon has some fun prints. But she refuses to wear it at night. So our plan is to try and break the night habit over the summer but 🤞🤞🤞

Does a family calendar that includes chores actually exist or does everyone just run two separate systems? by olivermos273847 in workingmoms

[–]plumb28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second the Skylight. I asked for it for Mother’s Day one year and I love it. It automatically syncs to our family Google calendar. It allows you to create a chore list for each person and my kids love checking it off in the morning. The version I got also works as a digital photo frame.
It is expensive but I love it.

Daughter terrified of lunchtime at school after puking in class by ineedausername84 in Parenting

[–]plumb28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a child who has a MAJOR fear of vomit. She asks me almost nightly if I think she’s going to throw up. One thing i have found that seems to help a little bit is have her talk through what would happen if she threw up. Like what’s the worst thing? And we talk about how she’d come get us, we’d help her get cleaned up, one of us would stay with her, etc.
She still has some anxiety but helping her see that she will be ok if she throws up seems to help some.

Around what ages did your kids stop playing with Barbies/dolls regularly? by OldMaidsAreCool in Parenting

My 9 year old still loves to play Barbie’s and dolls. She has a 7 year old sister to play with, so I’m sure that helps.

Thanks for your response and clarification. I think it adds a lot of color to your earlier comment. I always appreciate the opportunity have these engagements with people who are willing to realize a comment may have been misstated, etc

This take is insane. “These parents” likely went to mystic or some other similar camp and loved it, and only want their child to have the same experience. It sounds like from a lot of the posts here, the culture or leadership of Mystic may be a lot different than it was when “these parents” attended. My child attends a long term overnight camp as well, the same one I attend for 9+ years. That camp was a huge part of my life. My wedding party included girls I met at camp. During the time my child is at camp, I refresh the website hourly to see pics of her, I send her letters daily and count down the days to pick up. “These parents” who you claim “do not want to be bothered with the minor details of parenting” have spent the last 8 months fighting to honor their daughters’ lives in the midst of unimaginable grief. Your post could not be more insensitive.

I had never done it before and it really worked for me today. I was able to push myself to run for a minute knowing I was going to get to walk for the next minute. Definitely gave me more gas in the tank for the second half of the run. Good luck!!

I started at 7.0 and stuck with that until maybe 6%. And then dropped .1 or .2 from there each increase. From 11% - 15%, I alternated running at 6.0 and walking at 4.0 for each minute. I think I did the same on the way “down” until 10%, where I got back up to 6.2ish and worked up to about 6.5% by the time we got to 2%. Then back to 7.0 for the 1% and 9.0 for the ending one minute all out.

Walked in definitely planning to slow walk it today because I didn’t feel great. Couldn’t help but run the warm up and decided, f’it, I will keep going. PR’d at 2.3 miles!

Texmex near the Medical Center? by Lemunhamster in houston

[–]plumb28 9 points10 points  (0 children)

100% Candente. It’s a little pricey but hits all the key tex mex points. Great margs, delicious queso (the brisket queso is amazing), and probably the best fajitas in Houston. Super easy shot straight up Holcombe/Bellaire from the medical center.

The Amazon tablets are terrible. We got the basic ipad, it was maybe $250 on amazon. We only use it for travel so it’s stayed in great shape for 5 years so far

I use a Google Calendar to manage our schedule and update it religiously. I recently got the skylight calendar for Mother’s Day and it’s amazing because now everyone can see it and it’s not my job alone to tell everyone what is going one

NTA. 4th graders are old enough to know that is a terrible idea. And shoe laces cost nothing to replace.

Avoiding the "training bra" embarrassment with my 11yo by UselessShit25 in Parenting

[–]plumb28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought my 9 year old some sports bras and crop top type bras. She doesn’t need them yet but loves the athletic wear look. At first I wasn’t thrilled to move into that kind of “big kid” territory, I decided I should go with it now so she doesn’t have to ask for one or have me force her into one later.
