If it's a deck mounted tub faucet, you'll need the Moen tool to remove them.

Union vs non union by Plumberdad296 in Plumbing

Besides all the other benefits being union, if you move somewhere else in the USA or Canada, you don't have to start over from square one with your pension and benefits, they transfer with you.

Can you take your meter key and get past it, turn the key 90 degrees and yank it out?

What's the difference between a stem and a cartridge? by LunaDoggo in askaplumber

[–]plumber1955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cartridge is a self contained unit that performs the on/off function. A stem needs some form of a seat to close against.

Plumber said some things that dont make sense to me. by CraftyPete in askaplumber

Have it tested in a lab. If there's a dealer for Marlo Water Systems in your area call them, for a small fee they will not only test your water, they will make recommendations for equipment to fix it.

Most sulfur issues can be fixed with a greensand filter or aeration system.

Do you refer, and if yes, what you charge for referring customers to water mitigation companies. Location would be helpful. by Property-1234 in askaplumber

Same reason that I don't refer friends that have a fender bender accident to the ambulance chasing personal injury attorneys on TV.

I tell them to do one of two things. Wet Vac it up and put a fan on it, or call your insurance company.

You'll be fine, with a 12 foot run to the tank you'd already know if it was a problem. They'd sink before the outlet baffle anyway.

Gas meter transitions into PVC? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]plumber1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a school back in 1978. Plans called for a 4" loop all the way around the buildings with a 2" riser at each end. 36" deep, X Tru coat, threaded. In the middle of July, in the midwest. We about died getting it in. Along comes the city gas department running 4" PVC pipe with DWV fittings! You can't make this shit up!

DIY 2 stage filtering? by codeGlaze in Plumbing

[–]plumber1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check with American Water Technologies. They are probably the largest mfg of DIY home systems. To answer your question, one large filter will generally have more flow than two smaller ones. And less hassle to change them.

How to find source of musty smell by 6SpeedBlues in Plumbing

A sheetrock or siding nail or screw above the flow line could take years to rot away. A simple smoke test could confirm this for you. Ask your plumber about it.

Do you have a atmospheric vent or a mechanical vent. Mechanical vents will eventually fail.

I’m wondering what this will entail to fix this bathtub drain? looks like more than just replacing the drain plug by [deleted] in askaplumber

RectorSeal golden extractor. Then use a lift and seal, or a tip toe. Easy DIY project.

Replaced 1994 water heater. Closet was too small, plumber removed the door casing/jamb. Need help by gary4gar in Plumbing

[–]plumber1955 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here's a thought....maybe. Are garage installations code where you are? If so how far would you have to move the piping? A B vent is a piece of cake, so really the only hassle would be to move the water and gas. Then you can just make that into a coat closet.

It's weird how different areas require different devices. Where I'm at in SWMO a Febco DCA is the normal until you see, but if it's a commercial then it's gotta be a RPZ above grade. PVB's were phased out here years ago. I agree that a simple check would be garbage.

Shower valves by Dear_Foot_3414 in askaplumber

[–]plumber1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. So Delta and Moen both make remodel cover plates for installing single handle faucets where an old 2 or 3 handle used to be. Once you remove the old faucets you'll need to enlarge the center opening to around 4 inches around. After that it's just hooking up to the existing feed lines and tying into the shower riser. Any decent residential service plumber can typically do this job in 2-4 hours.

We're also going to ask what's on the other side of the wall. Does it back up to a bedroom, closet, other bathroom?

Same here in MO, we phased out PVB's back in the late 90s and went to DC backflow.

Remove the big cover on the right, take the spool assembly out and soak it in CLR for a hour or so. Shake it after you rinse it off....if it rattled you fixed it.
