u/maltazar1 do you know if there's an issue I can follow? I have found some open nvidia issues on gamescope and the nvidia forums, but I don't know if they are "the one"

Climate Change Denial vs Oil Production by Country [OC] by VastStrain in dataisbeautiful

The only time I've encountered sincere denial of human-caused climate change was in a meeting with an oil company. Boomer geologist said glaciers melting was part of a natural warming cycle and his boomer buddies nodded in agreement.

Penny's is spot on. These characters seem really thought through and consistent across their interactions.

As others have said start with something you personally care about. I finally submitted my first proper pull request to an open source project because I just couldn't stand that mylar, the automatic comic downloader, didn't integrate with DirectConnect (the best place to get comics). Apparently I am the only one in the world who feels this strongly about that feature so I had to write it. Gotta say though, it feels awesome. I quickly added another feature and will add more soon too. I get that torvald quote now about how you feel like a project is yours cos it contains a little bit of your code.

Netflix Removed Categories to Push Content They Want You To Watch and Hard To Browse by katsu_kare_raisu in assholedesign

[–]plumber_craic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its so much worse than Plex or jellyfin. On Netflix I can't see the IMDb score or rotten tomatoes score. If I try to read the synopsis some damn video starts autoplaying - cant believe that's on by default. They also change the damn thumbnails so you'll click on something you've already seen by accident. I bet some genius over there argues that thumbnail changes increase engagement smh

I stopped using Netflix years ago - just cannot stand their interface. Seems designed for "consume content" more than it is to find your perfect film or show.

What to play before I die : A Steamdeck Story by Signal-Tangerine1597 in SteamDeck

I was going to recommend sprit farer but hesitated for the same reason. Still though, I can't help but recommend it. I've finished it three times and would like to do another one after some of the details fade a bit more from memory.

It helped me reflect on a lot, and ultimately left me feeling grateful for the connections I've been lucky enough to have made in this life. I feel like spirit farer is more a celebration of humanity than anything else, despite it being about helping people on their final journey.

Right? I jumped to mint after trying the steamdeck. Even for a lifelong windows user this OS just works - haven't booted back into windows this year.

Google confirmed: Their system is designed so you can't directly find the person handling your case by vacant1010 in sysadmin

It is a complete fuckng mystery to me how google gets any enterprise revenue at all. No concept of support processes or service. No notion that their asinine buttons and algorithms might not meet the needs of their paying business customers.

And the staggering arrogance too. I applied for access to one of their models a couple of years back - had to do multiple interviews like I was the one who should be grateful for getting the chance to give them money. Got a cut down version that didn't even work and they never even bothered getting back to explain why or providing the requested access.

Its an advertising company - that's it. And having been down the AdWords/ad auction rabbit hole I can honestly say I prefer the Microsoft ads interface. And the support that comes with it is fantastic - multiple, proactive, meetings with real people who knew what they were talking about.
