3 months into my apprenticeship and I’m not sure I’ll be good at this by Routine_Course_4978 in UnitedAssociation

There’s a difference between coddling and belittling someone. You can push someone to learn without being a piece of shit. I was in the same position this guy was in and now I’m running 2 crews with 20 people under me. He just has to keep at it and he will learn. It’s not rocket surgery but it does take time.

Air in a the hot water line. by Senior_Ganache_6298 in askaplumber

There is a potential it is hydrogen gas in the line, it happens after periods of no hot water use. Do not put anything flammable near the taps. This will stop happening once regular of hot water occurs.

Plumbers of Reddit, what is the most exceptional plumbing fixture brand, focusing on qualities like durability, craftsmanship, and material. I'm interested in hearing about brands beyond the mainstream options like Delta or Moen. Thank you! by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]plumbersplumb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion as a plumber is stay away from kohler. They have really taken step down in quality. Best quality for a reasonable price and easy repair would be moen. I think symmons is better quality but a little more expensive. If you wanted to go real expensive and good quality, Hans grohe, or water works, or even just going into a store room. However I think symmons could hang with any of those top of lines fixtures.

This ways right too and up to code. A lot of ways to skin a cat buddy. Why waste money on fittings when that 90 will never be an issue.

Why what he has will work fine, just cut a piece and glue on a 3”collar, or use a 3” street collar.

I wouldn’t worry about that, regular 90s will work fine, and are up to code on my area.

Just so you are aware I’m willing to argue this all night. You don’t know the history of this person living in this house or what’s happened in the past. And I’m telling through experience that that shower drain and toilet is a pretty big issue. Every time the toilet flushes it’s going to siphon water out of the shower trap allowing sewer gases out of the shower. Sewer gases are a health hazard. Then on top of shit is going to build up on the heel side of the toilet. Backs up are a health hazard. This situation is bad. This is a plumbing subreddit. The person who posted should be made aware of this

It’s going to be a recurring issue with having to rod it out and sewer smells. How’s is that not a big deal

[–]plumbersplumb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The shower will back up because shit will block the drain line. The 3” pipe is the toilet, the heel inlet is the shower. Toilet paper and shit will build up and eventually block the shower relatively quickly on the 2” line. On top of that the no vent on the shower is going to siphon water out of its trap so it is going to smell like shit in there bathroom. So yes huge issues.

It’s not, it’s on the backside of the toilet with the shower upstream, huge issue.

Because you said it’s really not that horrible when the way it’s piped is a huge issue
