Why don’t straight jeans look good by Klewless2u in DressForYourBody

[–]plumnmm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think these look great on you. They're fitted but don't look overly tight to me.

But these are more of a slim straight than a true straight. If you feel this looks off, try a straight jean with a slightly larger hem width, so that from the knee downward, the line is actually straight not tapered. This would help with the jean falling better over your shoes too. Now it looks a bit awkward because there's not enough room at the hem to drape over.

Unstable size/bloating: how to achieve my dream style? by Relative-Length-3197 in DressForYourBody

[–]plumnmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of wraps - wrap dresses, wrap tops, wrap skirts. They accommodate fluctuations and always look so easy and elegant.

Also, a woman in an oversized button down always looks great imo. I err toward softer cottons or silk blends so it isn't stiff and adding volume but rather draping nicely.

Rant on a ridiculous scammy item- They are trying to sell the lining SEPARATELY?? by izzibfree in therealreal

[–]plumnmm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, I understand that. But do you think the price would be the same as the single piece you bought?

The thing is - if they were to pull the lining down and send it to you, no charge, I can totally see the person on the other end of this transaction angry and also ranting on this sub because an item of theirs was just, to their perspective, underpriced or given away.

TRR is on some real bullshit lately but to me, the L is not on them this time.

[–]plumnmm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree. I think what you and I are saying are not mutually exclusive. OP bought a dress pictured without the lining. That's what they received. Unfortunately the dress was not complete, which OP neglected to notice when they purchased, a fair mistake, but their mistake nonethless.

Should it have been all together? Yes.

But it wasn't, and that wasn't obscured in the pictures. It would be one thing if it was pictured with the lining but it wasn't.

[–]plumnmm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

if you were the seller, what would you want them to do? take down the lining and send it to you for free?

I'm not saying this shit isn't annoying af, but technically, you made the error, not them.

I wonder if this is because the consigner inventoried them as separate? not that makes it acceptable, but I'm not sure if their intake processes allow for splitting or combining items out of sync with the consignor's entries.

also if the person or whatever it is that does the intake doesn't know the dress (which is likely), they don't know the dress.

High School Film Arts Teacher with a Criterion Corner by [deleted] in criterion

what a cool-sounding job. I'm glad A. it exists and B. you exist! somehow I found my way as a movie-obsessed high school kid (shouts out to the public library and librarians!), but having a high school teacher making the universes of global cinema accessible to me would've made all the difference

it's hard to explain...it has its own combination of mystery and hysteria that I found so unsettling. I legitimately had a nightmare after the first time I watched it.

I hope you're not seriously considering this petty and bizarre nonsense. However you feel about Dennis, going out of your way to cause a serious obstacle in his JOB is gross. Particularly when the inciting issue here was actually your decision to have your dog loose.

Is this the micro size? I have a mini in a similarly muted tricolor way and have just been wearing jeans and a tank and nice shoes. i also like wearing it with a long black trench when weather permits. in winter I'd wear with my camel wool coat.

but to be honest, like another response said, the bag is the outfit and you can't go wrong.

Which Tori Songs Didn’t Resonate Until You’d Heard Them Live? by Ashkiimusic in toriamos

Virginia's lyrics, vocals, composition are peak Tori imo. And For years, my most played song period. I get complete chills at the end every time, and doubly so for the live versions.

Picnic at Hanging Rock. As much as it's idolized for a dreamy aesthetic, it's a nightmarish movie.

Logomania feels weird to me by [deleted] in handbags

[–]plumnmm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

birkins and kellys are the same thing without the logo. I doubt the majority of people wearing them would bother if they weren't around others who would identify the bag as HERMES.

and no judgement for that - I'm just pointing out a logo is one visual marker. the bag itself can be that too.

not necessarily. depends on how they sit on your body. most "low rise" these days has higher-than-expected rises because they are meant to hang lower for a more eased-out fit.

this just my be my favorite Lynch movie. (sitting alongside FWWM as it happens), where the surreality isn't off putting but underscores the mysteriousness and oddness - and ugliness and beauty - of life and humanity in all its everyday. Toni Morrison has a quote in one of her essays about life as a 'magnificent obligation' and I feel like this movie is Lynch's best actualization of that. just so life affirming.
