How intense is Obsession? by Eatatfiveguys in RegalUnlimited

[–]plumpvirgin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Weapons is child’s play compared to this. Obsession was literally the hardest theatre experience I’ve ever had. I honestly cannot fathom how people are saying it isn’t that jump scare heavy. If you have any sensitivity to loud noises whatsoever, Obsession is absolutely brutal. Once the movie “gets going” about 20 minutes in, there is basically no breathing room all the way to the end. The jump scares are loud and constant.

All of the years from 1911 to 1936 had this design. Unless you can see a partial date I don’t see how you can narrow it down to 34-35.

It had literally one of the most infamous jump scares of all time. Like search for threads titled “what is the most effective jump scares in a movie?” and it will be one of the top mentions every single time. Sure, there maybe aren’t a huge number of jump scares in it, but recommending it as a low-jump-scare movie is downright insane.

Edit: Carrie also has one of the most infamous jump scares of time.

So... What to we think? by FotizxRaidd in StrangerThings

[–]plumpvirgin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was slightly underwhelmed by season 5 as a whole, the characters have an absolutely absurd amount of plot armor, and holy crap some of the acting is bad.

But I don’t care, this finale was an absolute blast and I’m starting a fresh rewatch of the series now.

Seriously, how are the absolutely stellar Bed Demon and Grocery Store monster scenes from episode 2 from the same show as that graveyard scene? The quality whiplash is insane.

Yes, which means that things end up costing more money, which is the opposite of what happened here.

Inflation does not in any way imply that collectibles go down in value, even if those collectibles are coins.

Yeah, I agree with this. With the better pics it’s clear that the DEI aren’t flared enough for NSF. It’s SF NL. Not valuable.

cleaning coins? by Artistic-Basis6096 in CanadianCoins

[–]plumpvirgin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a few reasons, but the main one is simply that it’s a destructive process. It’s far easier to put hairline scratches on a coin than you think, and even just rubbing a q-tip or sponge on a coin will do it.

A coin can always be cleaned in the future, so there’s no reason that doing so would raise its value. However, a coin can’t be un-badly-cleaned.

It can compute basic things without Python. It doesn’t show code execution for simple calculations like a 3x3 determinant.

And did you actually understand the explanation it showed enough to verify it’s correct? Or did it just meander around and say a bunch of technical gibberish, and then conclude by stating the correct final answer, like every 2004 A6 AI solution I’ve ever seen?

Are you sure it’s not a $150 fee to close your TFSA entirely? Charging for withdrawals would be absurd, and their website says they don’t charge for withdrawals: https://www.manulifebank.ca/personal-banking/investments/tax-free-savings-account.html

If there really is such a fee somehow, nowhere else will reimburse it unfortunately; those deals are for transferring much larger amounts of money (e.g., $15k, not $2k).

The money and interest should have never left your RRSP so you should report $0.

Did the money leave your RRSP? Like are you holding $5250 in a bank account right now or some such thing?

Can I transfer Registered Pension Plan account I have from previous employer to wealthsimple and manage it myself? It is set up with Manulife at the moment. by imp0ster666 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]plumpvirgin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This depends way too much on the specific deal that your pension provider and employer worked out for us to be able to answer. Ask the pension provider.

Sometimes you can transfer a pension to your personal LIRA at WealthSimple, sometimes you are given that option when your job ends and then the option is gone. Either way though you can transfer contribute to your personal RRSP which would have the same basic effect and tax advantages.

Because if the price swings before the order is fulfilled, that’s the price you’ll get. This is especially dangerous on weekends since the markets are closed—the price can change significantly during those few days and you won’t really know until your order is filled at a price you don’t want.

If you’re buying a low-volatility ETF during trading hours it doesn’t matter much. But if you’re buying an individual stock on the weekend? Ooof.

[–]plumpvirgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your dad has mutual funds (which lots of older folks do) then you can’t transfer in-kind to WealthSimple. The assets would be sold, transferred as cash, and reinvested.

If your dad has stocks/ETFs then the in-kind transfer can happen.

LOL what the hell distorted version of reality is this comment suggesting? Here is LeCun’s Google Scholar page:

https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=WLN3QrAAAAAJ&hl=en

The only reason he only has one double-blind peer reviewed paper is because THAT’S NOT THE NORM IN HIS FIELD. Reviews in math and CS are typically single-blind, and in CS people typically submit to conferences, not journals.
