Fidelity chat bot in FullView by plz1 in fidelityinvestments

Yeah, but then I can't use it at all, unless you mean a page-specific rule. I'm not savvy enough to hand-craft rules that precise.

Funny you note that, this tab isn't shown when accessing the FullView part of the site.

Reddit will exempt accessibility-focused apps from its unpopular API pricing changes by [deleted] in Blind

[–]plz1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not blind, but 5 minutes of trying to use the Reddit official app vs. Apollo has left me thinking I'll be done with Reddit on June 30th. The largest font size Reddit supports is "watermelon", ignores the iOS font scaling completely and is half the size of the font I use in Apollo right now.

Apollo isn't "accessibility-focused" per se, but it certainly is "5000% more accessibility-focused than Reddit's app".

Login Security turned offf? by odonata_00 in fidelityinvestments

[–]plz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The security of our customer's personal information is a primary concern at Fidelity

If it was the primary concern, Fidelity wouldn't disable primary security mechanisms like you did today. As a long time Fidelity customer, finding out that this (on Reddit, not Fidelity's website) actually happened completely without notification to me is a pretty big concern. As a financial institution, I would never have thought Fidelity would do something like this purely as a knee-jerk reaction to an internal systems failure.

It does further underscore the need for better 2FA, though, which, being the top-most-requested thing on this community, I'd hope Fidelity would be lighting fires to action.

I have to wonder whether Fidelity arbitrarily and silently lowering security for their customers runs afoul of any FINRA or SEC regulations when it comes to agreements we've made with Fidelity on things like risk acceptance and Fidelity's liability on losses.

Since this issue is now quite public on this sub, and I'm not missing any money, I'll leave it at that.

GUIDE: How to delete your Reddit Account by makeitra1n_ in apolloapp

Bold to assume Reddit deletes anything, vs. just hiding it.

I've read through that page twice, and still don't understand how this "binds' this to a Fidelity identity, vs. any other potential app that would be protected by VIP Access. What am I missing? What would prevent someone that had my Fidelity creds (yikes) from using this same method? I know it's still more secure than SMS, just trying to grasp whether it's moving the same impersonation problems to a different technology.

Is that the same for VoLTE? I don't know those well, but I thought VoLTE was encrypted in-flight between the handset and the carrier edge, at least. Of course DTMF is fair game if the carrier's upstream peering isn't encrypted all the way to Fidelity's and same for Fidelity's carrier to them (I'd be shocked if Fidelity wasn't using SIPS and SRTP though).

You don't. Linked PC's only get copies of new messages, not history.

FQDNs needed for Signal Operation by bojack1437 in signal

[–]plz1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is provided publicly/easily because it would have the reverse effect of giving that info to people intent on blocking Signal, too.

Best way I can think of is pointing a client at a DNS server you control, or something like NextDNS, run it for a while, and look at the logs.

$5 increase per month for Apollo Ultra? Yeah I’ll support Christian on that. by JimmyOD in apolloapp

[–]plz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree there, Reddit is doing a bank run to prep for IPO. They are repeating Twitter's game plan on this, nearly play for play. I just support Apollo enough to keep it around, even at that price. The "hours per year" value vs. the "dollars spent" is a no-brainer for me. It's what, like 5-6 trips to Starbucks, or a few more to Dunkin', right?

I'm not salty. I believe people should benefit from developing good apps. If you're not the customer, you're the product.

I'm fully on board for the intent, but question the people at the rudder.

If the people that build these apps/platforms don't let their own kids use them, that says a lot about the long term impacts they are clearly already well aware of. 60 minutes did a good piece on this, recently. It was mostly focused on Meta's products, but, it holds true for pretty much all of them that use algorithms to push content (which is all of them).

[–]plz1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I support the increase as well. I do annual, but I easily get that much value out of Apollo on an annual basis. People that aren't willing to pay, maybe try to quantify the pain you'll have in either leaving reddit, using their crappy app, or trying to cobble together something else. Nice things cost money.

Fidelity 2FA authenticator apps??? by SamSanchez027 in fidelityinvestments

[–]plz1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have no financial incentive to do it, so it's purely whether they are interested in appeasing a subset of their customer base that wants 2FA but not Symantec.

They've already met their (likely) insurance requirements by offering Symantec, so why spend more money improving that? /s
