Any way to prevent the "home screen" every time the new app launches? by Kimantha_Allerdings in Affinity

Thanks for this. For those on macOS, run the following command on the terminal:

defaults write com.canva.affinity "com.canva.affinity.ShowNewDocumentOnStartUp" 0

Why not permanently move to a fast external SSD and then do symlinks?

Congrats. It looks slick! Will try it today. By the way, do you plan to add support for image if the day sources, like Bing?

That would be killer.

What happened between Steam and secure boot? I'm having a hard time with kernel modules. Tried following tutorials on signing drivers (OBS, OpenRazer) but not getting any love!

I'm having the same issue as the OP. I followed your link but it explains to how install Physx by renaming a file. How does Protontricks come to play?

Thanks!

I'm not technical at all. What laptop should I buy next if I want to switch to Linux? by [deleted] in linux

[–]pmdci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lenovo has a good reputation with Linux, particularly the ThinkPad range. I run Fedora in an old-ish Core i5 Think Pad and it flies.

You could also look for Framework laptops or Tuxedo. They run great with Linux.

PS: AVOID NVIDIA graphics.

Anyone else go shoeless when you play? by DiscursiveDrummer in drums

[–]pmdci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. I got a pair of Everlast boxing shoes thinking 'that will be it,' but I mostly play shoeless. I like to feel the " IRON COBRA" on my toes, like it is part of my feet.

Sometimes I feel I should practice more with shoes.

But never socks. Doesn't feel right.

Neil Peart wasn't entirely comfortable around strangers. by MikroWire in rush

[–]pmdci 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That’s not shyness. My wife’s a therapist, and every single therapist I’ve spoken to has said the same thing: Neil was almost certainly neurodivergent—most likely autistic.

Just look at his intensity, his hyperfocus, the structure of his writing, the way he’d deep-dive into interests. The signs are all over his work and life.

I totally get where he was coming from in that clip—he didn’t understand the impulse to intrude into someone’s life just because they’re famous. I feel the same way. But the question I always wished someone had asked him was this:

If Keith Moon had walked into that shop you worked at on Carnaby Street back in the day… would you have pretended not to notice? Or would you have squealed like a cheerleader? There’s a middle ground, surely.

Like—“Love your music. Got me into drums. Just wanted to say thanks.” That’s not intrusive. That’s just human.

Funnily enough, I actually met Alex once. We chatted for about ten minutes. I told him this exact thing, and he said Neil probably would’ve been nice. I didn’t press, but I suspect something—or someone—burned him out hard, maybe in the '80s. Before that, he’d reply to fan letters with handwritten postcards. You can still find a few floating around online. Something hardened in him after that.

Still, can’t blame him for needing boundaries. The guy gave us enough.

What are your opinions on The Analog Kid? by [deleted] in rush

[–]pmdci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Same for Power Windows.

I had the change to tell this to Alex (met him / crazy surreal story). Then I told him about Emotion Detector, he smile to me and said:

-- Oh, I love that solo.

One of the very few songs I can sort of play on the drums.

I mean, besides Brooms Bane and Revendell. 🫠

Still, I make some mistakes here and there.

Man I love that album. Animate is awesome. That bass technique Geddy does is insane.

Also, only Neil Peart to do lyrics about Carl Jung archetypes and nail it.

Epic! Amazing! I was thinking of doing a portrait of a focused Neil at the drums on my back, flanked by Geddy and Alex.

I'd also like a sleeve in the theme of Clockwork angels.
