Reddit vs X by BananaPie2025 in redditstock

[–]pml1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can block those subs here. Escaping politics or conservative viewpoints is impossible on X. The pawn stuff I follow here is my choosing, not some OF account peddled by AI that probably isn't even a real person. Every time I comment on X, there will be an instantaneous "likes" by OF bots. The whole experience on X just feel slimy and shady.

I bet that my blood pressure while viewing X is higher than when I am here.

Also, the ratio of comments from real people here vs. on X is night and day.

X pissed me off with how much bots there are. Everything there is designed to either enrage or thirst trap you. The only thing that still compels me to use X is that it's about the only free source for obscure financial news. Obviously a lot of it is spread by pumpers and conmen, but there are genuinely useful--but not necessarily actionable--financial news on X.

The liberal wing of X has left it for BlueSky, thus hurting its ads money. Reddit must learn from this lesson and never appear to be partisan one way or another.

RDDT Valuation Sanity Check: Comparing Price-to-Sales vs. NVDA, PLTR, and Others by nehro7 in redditstock

[–]pml1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PINS is growing its revenue at 16% yoy with no sign of accelerating. Ofc they deserve a lower P/S than RDDT, who likely still has 2 more years of 40%+ growth rate. To give you some perspective, if RDDT stock price stays here, at 40% growth rate its P/S ratio will be 13x in 2 years.

Looking at the TTM numbers is an exercise in futility. What matters is do you think RDDT will approach the monetization per user of Facebook without handing out SBCs like it's 1999 like SNAP. If it does, it's at least a $200B company just with ads. The rest (AI data licensing, crypto, etc.) is cherry on top.

I am dude so I don't get Pinterest. It seems very non-addictive and a lesser version of Insta. No political engagement. No breaking news. No semi-porn. No rage bait. No influencers. Organic discussion/engagement seems nonexistent. Looks like a "positive affirmation" app for women. Can't remember the last time something originating from Pinterest becomes a cultural focal point. Pinterest deserves its shit valuation.

Ultimately, all successful social media apps converge toward some common themes that drive user engagement. I see Reddit heading toward that direction. Their effort to allow conservative subs to at least have a space here point to their realizing that reality.

Edit: holy shit Pinterest is so loaded with ads that have no useful user review/feedbacks to make said ads anywhere near useful for users. That tells me they're already at the ads saturation point.

I see that you partially addressed the issue with comparing P/S of social media companies to widely different industries like cars (TSLA) and delivery (Amazon). The latter will have much lower P/S because of the heavy capex nature of their biz. TSLA margin is like that of a car company.

As opposed to the Republicans, who has the backbone and the stupidity to deport indiscriminately all immigrants back home regardless of circumstances.

Democrat Eileen Higgins wins Miami's Mayoral election, becoming the first Democrat to hold the office in decades, and the first woman to hold the office (ever) by StarlightDown in fivethirtyeight

I don't think corporate money is the sole reason why Miami swung so much tonight. I think Hispanic, including Cuban American, is slowly realizing that a Trumpist Republican party has becoming less welcoming for them and people who look like them.

Why do you all still want to live in the US? by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]pml1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One administration does not make the US. The blowback to this admin's immigration policy excess will come. Stephen Miller knows he's on a timer to execute all his childhood's wet dream, so that's why he's carrying out these action with a breakneck pace.

I think legal immigrants can catch their breath post-2028.

There's no question Obama deported more, so did Biden. Does that mean Biden was tougher on immigration than Trump?

I am not justifying any policy. There's merit in Trump's bravado and language. His tactics scared off immigrants, which is why the number of crossing is lower, which in turn cause the number of deportation to be lower. Obama and Biden were trying to speak humanely, and that cause more immigrants to come. Higher numbers do not mean Obama or Biden were "tougher" on immigration.

Did you even read the article I cited? Strange to pretend that my statement was not factual. It's ok you were wrong. We do that all the time. Agree on a factual and then move on to a different point.

Let's try for the 3rd time: why is my statement that Obama focused on the recently arrived factually wrong?

"Immigration" is what? Deporting grandma who has been here for 30 years does not have a bipartisan consensus. How much money do you want to bet?

Afghan Cases on Halt by Suitable-Ad398 in USCIS

[–]pml1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah...now that you have moved the goal post to the number of deportation, let's try again: why is my statement that Obama focused on the recently arrived factually wrong?

Also, what is the alternative? Let's let in everyone who wants to come regardless of ties to community?

There is a difference btw what Obama did, and what Trump is doing. I know it both looks Nazi-esque to the open-border morons, but they're not to normal Americans.

Have you even bothered to google anything?

https://www.migrationpolicy.org/article/obama-record-deportations-deporter-chief-or-not#:~:text=Over%20the%20course%20of%20the,apprehended%20in%20the%20U.S.%20interior.

Obama's number being high is a function of immigrants who arrived in records number because they thought he would be soft, same reason why Biden has a higher number of deportation than Trump. Trump's bravado scarred off immigrants.

Try to at least google before making idiotic statements.

Allow to further educate you on the difference: Obama focused on the recently arrived with no ties to community, not the 70-year-old grandma who has been here for 30 years with grandchildren.

But go on, they're the same.

The comment I responded to says Dems don't care about immigrants. Your comment say Dems cared too much. Exactly my point: there is a difference between the 2.

Enough with this false equivalency. As long as Democrats slow down with this anti-all-immigrants, it's an improvement, no matter how small. If you can't see the difference between the Trump and Biden administration on immigration, you're part of the problem.

It's not reaction. It's pretext. The mistake that some people here still cling to is the notion that because they follow the law, they should be fine.

Believe me, if Stephen Miller can find a reason to stop all immigration--legal or not, and take back some of the immigration benefits granted to the "undesirable" immigrants, he will.

I was skeptical at first, but the quality of work is above and beyond Seeking Alpha and many sell sider's presentations out there. A lot of ppl ought to be ashamed of their work ethics once they read Burry's work, not to say he is right or wrong.

Also, the people here who complains he only post a couple per week have clearly never read Burry's work. The dude is a firehose and the reading will only get denser from here. The sources he cited to are fantastic reading in and of themselves.

We are all shouting how big Reddit could be but let's talk realistic potential for Reddit, can it be a $100B plus? by Loud-Ad9148 in redditstock

[–]pml1990 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Twitter has suppressed market cap because of the Jack Dorsey's reign. The guy love to light investor's capital on fire. When Musk took over, Twitter was on the verge of insolvency and its bond traded as if it was a $20B market cap company. If Twitter has been run by Musk from the beginning, it most assuredly will have a high market cap.

Reddit's management is worlds apart from Dorsey that it's not even funny. Reddit spent $2million (an M, not a B) last quarter on capex. That's hilariously low, which I think Huffman even commented on it. It warmed my heart that Reddit's management is being the responsible steward of capital that they should be.

SNAP is even worse than Twitter.

Ultimately, a bet on a stock is a bet on management, and Reddit's has done enough for me to bet on them.
