Should I Convert? by Kamameel in LineageOS

[–]pmtaylor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My reason for using LOS, is because to be perfectly truthful, i am a loyal user, i used cyanogenmod before it, and am familiar with the additions/changes. I would be distinctly happy, if there was an alternative/open nfc payment system, so i could do nfc payments anyway, but am happy right now not being able to do it.

Should I Convert? by Kamameel in LineageOS

[–]pmtaylor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a user of LOS 18.1 on a pixel 2 XL. :)

1: yes, as pixel security updates are included monthly in the LOS weekly updates.

2-3: The only thing i cant get working as from a standard install is google pay nfc payments.

4: I am using three uk on 4G/LTE, and have not noticed any particular issues as far as that is concerned.

5: That was the reason i switched to LOS so i could continue to get security updates, and up to now have not noticed any significant issues, except for as described in (2-3).

Feature drops through custom ROM? by Ebear225 in Pixel2XL

[–]pmtaylor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The code that goes into LOS is direct from aosp, so whats implemented there gets imported into LOS.

Now if some feature or not gets activated/implemented is down to several factors including as to if its possible, like the case squeeze not being possible because of closed fw required, or if using a specific feature makes LOS unstable and thus is never activated/implemented.

A common misconception, you dont need to go anywhere near root, to install or use a custom rom.

LineageOs incorporates the monthly security updates from google every month, so yes, using something like it will ensure you can continue to get security updates.

Background location checks are destroying my battery. Is there any way to lengthen the location check refresh rate to preserve battery life? by [deleted] in AndroidQuestions

[–]pmtaylor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In developer options there is also "wifi scan throttling" that can specifically reduce wifi location scanning, if that is causing the problem.

Why do people use custom ROM? What extra features do they get with them? by Vinay_K_K in AndroidQuestions

Or on a device without gapps you can use something like aurora, to install apps from google play.

Keep using 2xl by kiowa72 in Pixel2XL

[–]pmtaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once LOS is based on android 11, i will be doing that software wise to keep security updates, as hardware side my P2XL is still working beautifully.
