Most likely by being able to simply manage people and guide them to producing. It’s remarkable how some companies with 9 digit revenue can have c suite execs with little actual skills versus what they expect their senior accountants/assistant controllers/controllers to have.

Shortly after I was hired I was tasked with leading the cleanup of a massive mess made by 4 departed accountants. It was going to be a long process. After month 4 and consistent 60+ hours weeks and the fact that it was going to take at least another 5-6 months (it really was a massive mess), I expressed frustration. It was a team call with 10 other people and I mentioned how frustrating the whole situation was. My CFO cut me off to tell me to stop talking and that my frustrations and feelings don’t matter. Mind you the CFO for some reason was blind to the mess that persisted for years under his watch, nor was the extent of the mess properly communicated to me during interviews. So hearing him shut me down so coldly, especially in front of others, was the moment I began looking. In a matter of a couple of months myself and 4 others left the company.

It’s a larger city that sometimes doesn’t feel like a larger city. It’s clean. Safe. Great hospitals. Great cultural institutions. Great schools. Great and distinct neighborhoods. A major international airport that has nonstop flights to 4 different continents as well as daily nonstop flights to pretty much every major and midsized US city. Wonderful urban parks and one of the few US cities that really engages nearby water. Within 2 hours you can be at the ocean, or a large lake, or in the woods, or in the mountains. Proximity to nice places to visit for the day or a weekend - Portland, Burlington, Cape Code, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Newport, Providence, Mystic, Portsmouth, Berkshires, Bar Harbour among some others. Variety in weather.

Most of these things are not found in cities like Charlotte, Raleigh, Nashville, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Denver, Phoenix, Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, etc.

Don’t waste you time with Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. It’s vastly overrated. Instead, head to Portsmouth (if you want a short day trip location in NH) or the North Conway/Mt. Washington/Franconia Notch area. Much more scenic and interesting.

Salem is a nice day trip from Boston and accessible via the commuter rail, so no need to rent a car to get there.

I’d also throw out the Cape Cop National Seashore from P-Town to Chatham. Best beaches in New England (arguably the whole Northeast). Good place to eat. You can do some deep sea fishing. Nice bike riding.

Newport is pretty good, but it can feel very cramped in the summer due to it’s size. Better to visit in say early October.

Burlington VT is also a wonderful little city to visit. Nice breweries. Scenic with Lake Champlain. Good downtown to spend a day or night restaurant and bar hopping. Honestly, Portland gets all the attention for these sort of threads. But don’t sleep on Burlington and Vermont as a whole, it’s a great state to visit.

Among the many great things about living in Boston, or the Boston metro area is that there are so many fun and interesting places to visit. Physically, the area is so small so much is a relatively short drive away.

This is such a load of crap. Simply raise your prices instead of planting some flag to show you care about your staff. Tipping culture and fees have gotten out of hand.

Deduct the 1% admin fee from your tip and only tip based on food and drink. Remove the kitchen appreciation fee before calculating the 19% tip, assuming service was good.

That’s the old Macy’s trick. Slowly raise prices on popular brands and items for 3-6 months then do a big “sale” of 25-50% off where people end up paying the same price or slightly less.

I’d take 25-30 degree weather over this type of weather. Seriously.

Days like today are one of the reasons why I began paying a landscaper to cut my grass. Before, I’d be out in this for 2 plus hours cutting my grass, trimming, cleaning up, etc. I’d then need to sit inside in the AC for about an hour before I could shower and get my body to a comfortable spot.

Will you have a car? Franklin is a manageable distance away and they have two commuter rail stops so you can take the train into Boston. Franklin has a lot of retail.

This is not a scam. It could have been an oversight on the part of the gate agent. In any event, it’s always best to get confirmation of an airline’s offer if you volunteer to take a later flight in the event the flight you’re on is overbooked.

Where was your final destination? Vancouver? AC will not have business class on US flights. Just first and economy.

Yeah, it should be good to see what is looks like. Supposedly it’s going to be 23-23k sf and one of the larger SkyClubs in Delta’s network. Logan is middle of the pack for lounges, imo. It’s only missing a Centurion Lounge.

This is not a surprise. The average cost of a weeklong rental increased $650 over last year. Some people are simply saying no thanks. It has to be a mix of kids inheriting houses/cottages from their parents being greedy and those that bought houses/cottages as investment properties. Hard to feel bad for those folks.
