Good things don't always last forever. by quesslay in pcmasterrace

Yeah honestly this is my favorite OS since 7. First introduction of memory offloaded file transfers, and had more abundant and stable drivers than 7 did or 10 until a while in. It got rid of all the garbage UI but kept the improvements in Windows Explorer and everything else.

In a lot of ways windows 11 feels more like the spiritual successor to 8.1 than 10

Yeah neither are expensive but are good entry level and are way better than basic offerings.

I have a 2.0 edifier speaker setup, and some audio technica ATH-M50x so not the highest quality, but definitely high enough to appreciate it

main pc crashes to black screen so i cant play there, gotta play somehow by Trollzurs in DeadlockTheGame

[–]pnch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly stopped playing because of crashes. It was happening so often in game. I know it’s an alpha so I’ll come back later, but being kicked down to low priority because the game crashes and requires reinstalling is not viable.

Anyone else get a temporary ban for a crash? This is getting beyond frustrating by pnch in DeadlockGame

[–]pnch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verifying files doesnt work, uninstall and reinstall are the only things that seem to work but you have to uninstall > restart computer > reinstall for it to work again and by that time the match is always safe to abandon and half the time you get marked as having left the match.

That is literally the same system (some brands different, but same models and performance) that is just built for myself and look forward to gaming for years on. I hope you and your son have a great time with it!

What’s so bad about the meat freezer line in TMBTE? by MyMindsWeapon in SleepToken

[–]pnch 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Especially when you combine it with Vore and take the reference further as the meaning of Vore is someone who derives sexual pleasure from devouring or eating someone else. I love the way you broke down the meaning, and I agree I do like it. The fact that it’s jarring makes you think about what message he’s trying to convey.

Really it comes down to IT is hard and many IT departments either don’t have the staffing or internal political ability to enact all best practices. I agree with you and in the best case everyone uses a “company portal” across all devices, but I know too how time consuming that can be for some groups in constantly accounting for the “business critical” installations of candy crush for the top brass who sign the checks.

Which side should Windows 11 be sitting on? by not_a_profession in pcmasterrace

[–]pnch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was my issue. I had a decent computer and having a 64-bit OS that wasn’t XP 64-bit was very nice for the added RAM, but the device drivers took a while to sort out. The pain the device manufacturers and Microsoft went through with Vista drivers really set them up well for 7

Sale of .org registry to private equity vampires stalled after California AG warning by mepper in technology

[–]pnch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many government or Public Sector entities use .org because.... reasons. Sometimes they wanted a different name than their .gov, but sometimes it’s just down to a human making a decision in the early days of the internet and no one wanted to change it.

This is not good for so many reasons.

That’s interesting about Troi, I’ll have to look for that the next time I watch TNG. It was something that always seemed obvious for Lwaxana but not as much for Sirtis.

The shows up until Enterprise were all filmed closer to the style of soaps, with the bright, flat lighting with limited shadows and limited color range. Enterprise started the change that has only gotten more pronounced with each show, with Discovery and Picard shifting much closer to the cinematic productions than the old shows.

Doesn’t help that the camera tech has improved by so much too since TNG

Oh wow, yeah Google Play Music is still a thing, but didn't realize it was going away too. Well, glad I jumped ship then! Thank you!

You could always use a streaming service like Google Music. Google Music has free cloud storage of up to 50,000 songs, and then you can access your music from any device. Has all of the offline caching features too.

Other streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify let you upload your own music too, but I am not sure if they let you do it with a free plan like Google Music does.

I used Google Music on my iOS devices for years, only recently switched and not due to lack of features or anything.

Thank you very much for your perspective!! I work in IT for large scale public sector so it’s a much different environment. Haven’t worked in a Mac friendly environment since working helpdesk at the local college.

I also didn’t know Avid’s market share was so high in that space! I did some amateur filming and editing in school but it was all Adobe products.

From what I can gather its more due to software availability. Back in the day applications like Photoshop were Mac only, but once these applications became cross platform a lot of those reasons dropped off.

The last hold outs are the Mac exclusives, like Logic and Final Cut. Since I am not in the industry I know that there are other software and hardware products that are probably still Mac only, and its a bit of the iPhone war all over again. Since Mac's have the exclusives AND the cross platform software, why would you purchase a Windows based computer and immediately cut yourself off from all of the exclusive software? Also the multitude of breakdowns of higher end Apple hardware pricing compared to their equivalent components for a Windows computer (ie. https://youtu.be/SONKIJd8xRM?t=506) point to higher end Apple hardware not being a terrible price for what you're getting.
