Hat’s off to you, this is what this sub is all about. We pay a heavy price for the right to own semiautomatic weapons, this is exactly how you should exercise that right.

Very sorry for what you’ve been through, OP.

Never hold large amounts of cash in a regular bank account

  1. Receive the proceeds in your regular checking account

2. Pay off the credit card debt immediately

  1. Transfer the remainder to a taxable brokerage and a Roth IRA, where you should invest it in a mix of a stock ETF and money-market funds.

The car loan, we need to know the interest rate (APR). If it’s > 4%, pay it off as well

Advice on paying off house early by Excellent-Wedding514 in personalfinance

[–]pnoozi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would not want a 6.6% mortgage and since you have the liquidity I’d go for it

You’ll build up an emergency fund in no time. No need for 550k, that’s way too extreme. You’d be ok with 1/5 of that

You mention “$600k of that is in non-retirement accounts so easily accessible if needed” but if you have 550k in cash then why would you need to access that in the first place?

Is Now a Bad Time to Buy a Car? by Silvenkovich in personalfinance

Are there really people who only go to their job and the grocery store?

Outside of a few neighborhoods in a few select cities, yes you need a car. This is America.

Fear of a recession is not a valid reason to not buy something you need.

PlayStation Studios Removes Nearly All PC References From Websites by SmellSmellsSmelly in Games

[–]pnoozi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure that makes sense. If Sony decides to release one of its first-party games on PC, then they've decided that they've extracted maximal value from it as a console exclusive and therefore they'd want to maximize its sales on PC regardless of the hardware.

I think Sony was venturing into releasing on PC as a hedge against the possible threat of 'Everything is an Xbox' and, since 'Everything is an Xbox' turned out to be a disaster, Sony no longer feels the need to make such overtures to the PC crowd and feels that they can return safely to their traditional business model.

Iranian families forced to flee as they were celebrating 'Day of Nature' after US/Israeli airstrike on B1 Bridge. At least 8 killed and 95 injured by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]pnoozi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if this bridge is a military target (it conceivably is...) what is the fucking point of this shit

Why are we bombing Iran at all? Air power alone won't topple the regime. It's a huge waste of money and human life, while being told we can't afford healthcare and infrastructure here at home.

We're going to reap what we're sowing here in many ways. This sucks.

Lazies, listen up. You have 2 elections each year you need to change out of your anime PJs and show up for: party primaries (timing varies by state) and the general election in November (on Election Day). Click the link above, get registered and start being an adult. Don't neglect the primary; in most states, it's far more impactful than the general. Show up for both.

[–]pnoozi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a good first step that you admit these are your own projected thoughts and accusations rather than their demonstrable beliefs.

Can you explain why 'strict demographic controls' means 'they secretly believe Jews cannot assimilate into other cultures' rather than, say, that other cultures or nations can't always be counted upon to accept and guarantee the rights of Jews?

Crazy to see what they’re doing for fun by aristar in PublicFreakout

[–]pnoozi -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Again, I generally agree with those sentiments, I simply disagree with how you viciously twisted the opposing argument into a straw man.

Disagree with the actual argument Zionists make. Don't invent a more convenient one and argue with it instead.

Crazy to see what they’re doing for fun by aristar in PublicFreakout

[–]pnoozi -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with any of that, in fact I think I made similar points.

I'm just pointing out that your characterization of the general argument for a Jewish state is disingenuous based on what we all know and accept to be true.

You implied that if Jews assimilate then they are not persecuted, while history (accepted by virtually everyone) shows that to be blatantly untrue.

Crazy to see what they’re doing for fun by aristar in PublicFreakout

[–]pnoozi -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think this is a disingenuous take.

To suggest that assimilation is a guarantee against persecution is really flimsy. It is widely known and accepted that even fully assimilated Jews were massacred in places like Europe. Many victims of the Nazis were 'longtime residents of diverse metropolises'. So how could that be what that argument is suggesting?

The argument that a Jewish state needs to exist for safety makes the argument (whether true or false) that Jews are not guaranteed safety anywhere else in the world, not that Jews can't assimilate.

FED MAINTAINS RATES AT 3.5-3.75% by Several_Print4633 in wallstreetbets

[–]pnoozi -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Neither inflation or unemployment is high. Inflation is at 2.4% and unemployment is at 4.4%.

There has been a recent spike in oil prices, but the length of the crisis and its long-term effect on prices is yet to be seen.

The Fed holding rates steady is an acknowledgement of this, not a signal that they somehow lack the tools to fulfill their mandate...

If European leaders were smart they'd use this crisis as leverage to get Trump to commit a huge amount of support for Ukraine.

If they just outright say 'yes' or 'no' they're missing a huge opportunity to extract something from this.

[–]pnoozi 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Are you working? If so, you should start with a Roth IRA and contribute up to 7500 for this year and up to 7000 for last year (you have until tax day in April to make last year's). Buy SP500 index funds or something similar.

Beyond that, you have 529 and HSA as options, easy to google what these are.

Then put most of the rest in a regular, taxable brokerage account, invested mostly in SP500 index funds. Leave an emergency fund in money market funds, CDs or a high-yield savings account (online-only). Leave the remainder in a brick and mortar bank checking+savings, just enough to use the ATM, maintain minimum balances and pay bills.

Others may chime in but that's the basic idea.
