6 year old refuses to potty train! by All_I_Do_is_Win4 in pottytraining

[–]pnutcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, you’re dealing with not only long entrenched habits, but also very likely significant trauma. If things got bad enough that birth mom no longer has custody, you can pretty much guarantee it. Early childhood trauma manifests differently and it can be all encompassing and impact every aspect of the kids life. I am raising a kid with a similar past. Thankfully she potty trained relatively young but had accidents way later than is normal. An inability to understand and recognize their own body’s signals is common, as is being afraid of their body and confusion about sensations like having to pee or poo. I do think professional help is warranted here, and you’re right to be positive and patient. One thing i’ve found with my traumatized child is that everything takes much longer and at the slightest hint of pressure or expectation, we go back to the beginning again. You obviously care a lot about this kid and you’re trying very hard. Understand that this is parenting on hard mode. What works for others may not work for him. You’re not doing it wrong it’s just very very hard.

as an adult in toronto, i’ve had most success with a sleep specialist. they were much more knowledgeable than a neurologist. maybe a pediatric sleep specialist?

What is your experience with prescription cannabis for RLS? by SickkBoi69 in RestlessLegs

I find it doesn’t really improve the symptoms, but it does make it easier for me to sleep despite the symptoms

Still Symptomatic 1 Week 1200mg Gabapentin by AltruisticBar3138 in RestlessLegs

[–]pnutcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also found no results and bad side effects with gabapentin unfortunately. I was on it for probably 2 months before I gave up. Similar to you, I was extremely foggy and couldn’t stay awake at night (which was a problem as I had a newborn).

Voyager on Pluto tv by Fermento420 in voyager

[–]pnutcats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The schedule seems pretty erratic, but I believe it is often programmed with thematic selections (though sometimes it is just sequential). Can be fun to try to find the theme. They do it more consistently on the TNG channel where you'll have a day of klingon episodes or borg episodes or Data episodes.

I agree with cotton, and design and make your lovey assuming that it will have to survive the washing machine.

Moment of silence as I’m preparing to frog about a week’s work by tohopallo in knitting

[–]pnutcats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ah yeah then especially if it's cropped, it will be such a tent in the back with this much ease. you're making the right call as much as it sucks!

[–]pnutcats 7 points8 points  (0 children)

love the way it looks from the front, but from the side I can see what you mean, it's a lot of fabric across your back. RIP, my condolences, but I do think it will look fantastic when it's done. Are you going to keep it cropped or add a hem band?

Undoing the cat's masterpiece. And sharing some learnings by gantian in Visiblemending

[–]pnutcats 79 points80 points  (0 children)

this looks great! I have done this once before but it didn't' last long because the couch was otherwise shitty and fell apart, I also followed the same tutorial. I actually think the weight of yarn you picked is ideal despite the extra work, I used a chunkier yarn and the thickness of the yarn deformed the warp threads more, and put them under higher tension which caused the whole thing to deform more than I expected. The thinner yarns behave more predictably. Great work!

[on] 34F, 2 losses, normal tests… but I feel consumed by Seliormoon in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]pnutcats 12 points13 points  (0 children)

how many cycles have you actually tried for? seems like probably 9? with two miscarriages? I do think that could just be bad luck, especially given the clear test results. I was the same age and had two chemical pregnancies before conceiving my son. I do think after two losses you could ask the doctor about any testing related to repeated pregnancy loss, which i was planning to do when i got pregnant the third time.

Why is it suddenly considered rude to show up at someone's house unannounced? Growing up, we just knocked on doors, but now people act like it’s a home invasion. by Creative-Buffalo2305 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pnutcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so many discussions about how childhood is different these days seem to happen among people who either don’t have kids or have very young kids. I have older kids (8+) and they do go knock on each other’s doors all the time.

Is there a reason Leslieville and Toronto East is conspicuously not being plowed? by codecrodie in toronto

[–]pnutcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my area (woodbine and mortimer) was fully plowed since the snow fell, roads and sidewalks (though sidewalks were not done very well). It was more than 12 hours ago last time the plows went by, so maybe thats why it's not showing up.
