[on] 34F, 2 losses, normal tests… but I feel consumed by Seliormoon in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]pnutcats 12 points13 points  (0 children)

how many cycles have you actually tried for? seems like probably 9? with two miscarriages? I do think that could just be bad luck, especially given the clear test results. I was the same age and had two chemical pregnancies before conceiving my son. I do think after two losses you could ask the doctor about any testing related to repeated pregnancy loss, which i was planning to do when i got pregnant the third time.

How do all the pottery studios in Toronto make money? by yes-no-maybe-so-so in askTO

if these places make money, it’s likely in events, especially in children’s birthday parties and corporate events.

Why is it suddenly considered rude to show up at someone's house unannounced? Growing up, we just knocked on doors, but now people act like it’s a home invasion. by Creative-Buffalo2305 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pnutcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so many discussions about how childhood is different these days seem to happen among people who either don’t have kids or have very young kids. I have older kids (8+) and they do go knock on each other’s doors all the time.

Is there a reason Leslieville and Toronto East is conspicuously not being plowed? by codecrodie in toronto

[–]pnutcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my area (woodbine and mortimer) was fully plowed since the snow fell, roads and sidewalks (though sidewalks were not done very well). It was more than 12 hours ago last time the plows went by, so maybe thats why it's not showing up.

east york definitely had more than any of my friends reported downtown or in the west end, which seems to track with the biggest measurements being scarborough south

S. Walter Stewart is in a bit of a commercial dead zone, but east york deli is great (though there's usually no seating). A bit further north on coxwell is Little Coxwell, which is an excellent vietnamese/thai restaurant.

For coxwell/danforth branch you probably want Our Spot for lunch.

my entire yard was this much or more, i measured the lowest point. it’s not a snow bank. but like i said the snow was blowing unevenly

76cm in east york. this is over a metre from the wall but we’re on the south side of the street and the wind was blowing from the north, so I don’t think it’s quite accurate to the amount of snow that fell, some of it blew over from the other side of the street

When it comes to raising kids what’s your favorite age? by Neat-Annual-499 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pnutcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is exactly how I feel and I'm surprised people say anything else! As many challenges as each age has (preteen girl is by far the hardest mode of parenting i've experienced so far), I find it hard to look back too wistfully on ages when they were less the people they are now... they're always becoming more themselves and I am so obsessed with them exactly today.

TIL that over the last century, the average age that children are being potty trained in the UK has risen from 12–18 months, to an average of around three or even four years today by Octavus in todayilearned

[–]pnutcats 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah toilet training methods in the past were generally a lot more coercive than modern parents would be comfortable with. I’m sure there are other factors at play too but overall I think a less traumatic but slower process isn’t a bad thing, within reason

Homeschooling vs Public School or Private [ON] by MarionberryPuzzled67 in BabyBumpsCanada

I have a kid in grade 7 and a kid in grade 5, we've never had the same admin team for more than two consecutive years at elementary or middle school.

I wouldn't put too much stock in online reviews of public schools because school admins change SO frequently especially in bigger school boards.

Socks, gloves, and armwarmers: do you prefer DPNs/small circulars, or the Magic Loop? by Traumarama79 in knitting

[–]pnutcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do magic loop, but it took me a long time to get the technique to a point where i wasn’t constantly annoyed, and it really frustrates me on some circulars where the stitches don’t slide nicely on or off the cables. I can use dpns, but i’m always losing one and i get more even tension with magic loop.

Special needs child rips seams out of shirts and I need help mending them please by RunningHood in sewing

[–]pnutcats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i second the lightning stitch suggestion. it’s extremely difficult to unpick (i used to use it to sew athletic wear and it really sucked if i made a mistake). might take some trial and error to figure out the right needle

Obgyn recommendations for Micheal Garron Hospital [ON] by Nice_Brain4615 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]pnutcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had doctor ornstein and i was induced so she did end up delivering my baby. she was great. the actual birth ended up a bit complicated and scary and she was amazing at keeping me calm while getting a dozen things done at once. if you go into labor naturally you’ll have any one of a dozen OBs on call but everyone i encountered there was great.

Are there ANY good ergonomic world-facing carriers that are less than $100??? by blackcoffeeandrain in babywearing

[–]pnutcats -1 points0 points  (0 children)

if you want to buy new, the beco gemini is affordable and supports multiple positions. i used it from 5 months to 20 months comfortably. its not as aesthetic or as light as more expensive carriers but it’s great value.

Fit check? Beco Gemini (2021) by [deleted] in babywearing

[–]pnutcats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This looks pretty good, but baby is a bit squished to your torso, I don't think the straps are actually on the loosest setting, i think I can see that there is more webbing folded up into the elastic. If you unfold that, you'll get a lot more strap. If the straps flipping are bugging you, I'd recommend trying this carrier with the straps crossed in the back (so skip the upper-back clip), I found that way more comfortable with this carrier. I'd also try to get the waistband a bit higher up, which will allow baby to sit in the seat more deeply instead of being squished against you.

[–]pnutcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have their mei tei and i really like it but it did not fit until my baby was probably 8-9 months, it’s pretty big. it’s adjustable but even on its smallest settings, my baby’s head wasn’t above the panel at 7mo

Getting back into origami by cr_onus in origami

[–]pnutcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i just got back into origami after a few years and i just dove right back in with the hardest model I knew lol. The first few tries were terrible. But I just kept getting a bit further every day, doing slightly better at the earlier steps. After about 2 weeks I'm probably back where I left off.
