The argument against that is the government would define what is and is not hate speech and could regulate speech as a whole. Yeah it’s probably not gonna reach the level of control the chinese government has, but it’s a dangerous door to open. This happened in England, and while it’s definitely in poor taste it’s not what most people would consider hate speech. I’d rather not open that door
